A calibration method for parallel mechanism type machine tools by response surface methodology
This study proposes a calibration method for parallel mechanisms by using Response Surface Methodology. The measurement of the postures and positions of parallel mechanisms is so difficult that the effective and easy feasible calibration method has not yet been established. This study proposes a method that can estimate exact input-output relation of a parallel mechanism from only fewer measurement data of its postures and positions. The estimated input-output relation can reveal effect of various errors involved in the parallel mechanism, and can introduce appropriate compensation values, which achieves high-precision positioning. The study describes the calibration method for parallel mechanisms by using RSM and demonstrate the calibration of a Stewart Platform which a spatial six-degree of freedom mechanism by numerical simulation

The assist system employs a parallel wire mechanism of which the platform is suspended and moved by wires. Parallel wire mechanisms can arrange the actuators on the base and have advantages such as high power, high speed and high accuracy ; they offer other advantages in lightness and body flexibility due to the wire actuating. Thus, they are suitable for the assist system attached to the body. However, as parallel wire mechanisms have multi-degree-of-freedom and redundancy, the analysis of tension applied to the wires to drive their moving platform is difficult. This paper proposes the effective method for evaluating the maximum wire tension induced by external forces in arbitrary-direction, by the eigenvalue analysis with considering the vector-close condition. The method makes it possible to design a parallel wire mechanism to be compact and driven by small force.By using the proposed method, we actually developed the upper body motion assist system. In order to confirm the assistance effect by the developed assist system on upper body motion, accuracy of positioning and action of forces on human body was considered. Load cell that can measure the variation of wire tension was made and equipped to the developed system. Simultaneously, an image record system that can measure the pose of both the assist system and the wearer was built up. We attached the upper motion assist system to healthy adult mates and confirmed its motion. The behaviors of the wearer and variation of the wire tensions were also measured by the aforementioned measuring system. As a result, the forward-backward flexion, side flexion and swing of the wearer can be assisted accuracy and the exceeded forces are not acted to the body. Thus, the developed parallel wire mechanism is useful to assist the upper body motion.ç 究課é¡/é åçªå·:18560129, ç 究æé(幎床):2006-2007åºå

As the mechanism is composed of a spatial 3-dof parallel mechanism and a 2-dof planar guide table, it is expected to have a large workspace and high rigidity. The spatial 3-dof parallel mechanism comprises 3-RPS chains and furthermore has board-like links for suppressing bending deformation induced in prismatic pairs and the prismatic pairs are fixed on them at each end. Thus the proposed mechanism will realize higher rigidity and high speed motion. Next, the research has established a method for evaluating output errors of multiple degree-of-freedom mechanisms by forces applied to the output link in arbitrary direction. The output errors evaluated here result from elastic deformations of the driving parts. The evaluation values can be obtained by solving the eigenvalue problem of the matrix introduced from the compliance matrix which reveals the relations between the output error and force applied to mechanism. Th e method will facilitate to improve the rigidity of a multiple degree-of-freedom mechanism such as a parallel mechanism in its design. Furthermore, the proposed method can consider elastic deformation induced in the structures as well as the driving parts. Thus, the research analyzed the above mentioned spatial 3-dof parallel mechanism by the proposed method with considering the shape of the board-like links for improving the output errors caused by the translational and rotational deformation in the prismatic pairs. Based on the above results, we designed a 5-dof machine tool and assembled it actually. By the tool machine the research performed multiple degrees of freedom working and confirmed its availability. Next, the research considered the work error caused from the non-linearity relation between the output and input of parallel mechanism, and proposed the method for evaluating it by utilizing differential kinematics that is expressed by the Jacobian matrix. The method can evaluate the maximum value of the ratio of the output to input displacement to the arbitrary direction at each configuration of multiple degrees of freedom mechanism. We actually measured the work error by the assembled machine and confirmed it conforms to the evaluated results. From those results, the research has proposed the method for determining the optimum step size to control machine tool and confirmed its availability. Furthermore, the research considered a method for compensating the various error of the developed mechanism by the response surface methodology. We proposed the method for estimating the distribution of the error induced from the structural error and giving the compensation value for the input displacement. The availability of the proposed method has been confirmed by the numerical simulation of the present mechanism.ç 究課é¡/é åçªå·:15360082, ç 究æé(幎床):2003-2005åºå

Realization of contact surface geometry by dragging a whisker-type tactile sensor across measuring objects
é沢倧åŠå€§åŠé¢èªç¶ç§åŠç 究ç§æ©èœéçºã·ã¹ãã é沢倧åŠå·¥åŠéšPreviously we reported a method for displaying the shape of an object by using an array of whisker sensors. The array of whiskers was pressed against the object to be measured and the deflection of each whisker was measured. The measurements were used as inputs to a neural network to recognize the shapes. However, the previous method needed a larger number of whiskers to recognize the wider surface, because the array of whiskers has to be in full contact with the entire surface. Therefore, this study presents a new method in which a much smaller number of whiskers are dragged across the surface of the measured object to distinguish the shapes. The method is performed in the following manner. Firstly, a smaller number of whiskers are dragged across an object and each whisker deflection direction is distinguished at discrete time intervals. Next, the neural network continuously monitors the output from the whiskers and produces a result that characterizes the surface at the current scan position. Lastly, by building up a map of the classification of the entire surface, the geometry of the measured object can be displayed. This study exhibits the hardware and software required for displaying shapes, and shows examples of the results obtained from the measurements of some objects
