Parton Distributions in the Valon Model
The parton distribution functions determined by CTEQ at low are used as
inputs to test the validity of the valon model. The valon distributions in a
nucleon are first found to be nearly independent. The parton distribution
in a valon are shown to be consistent with being universal, independent of the
valon type. The momentum fractions of the partons in the valon add up
separately to one. These properties affirm the validity of the valon model. The
various distributions are parameterized for convenient application of the
model.Comment: 9 pages + 9 figures in ep
Quark-hadron phase transition with surface fluctuation
The effect of surface fluctuation on the observables of quark-hadron phase
transition is studied. The Ginzburg-Landau formalism is extended by the
inclusion of an extra term in the free energy that depends on the vertical
displacements from a flat surface. The probability that a bin has a particular
net displacement is determined by lattice simulation, where the physics input
is color confinement. The surface fluctuation from bin to bin is related to
multiplicity fluctuation, which in turn is measured by the factorial moments.
It is found that both the F-scaling behavior and the scaling exponent are
essentially unaffected by the inclusion of surface fluctuation.Comment: 9 pages, LaTex, 7 figures in a single postscript file, submitted to

Polymer Adsorption on Disordered Substrate
We analyze the recently proposed "pattern-matching" phase of a Gaussian
random heteropolymer adsorbed on a disordered substrate [S. Srebnik, A.K.
Chakraborty and E.I. Shakhnovich, Phys. Rev. Lett. 77, 3157 (1996)]. By mapping
the problem to that of a directed homopolymer in higher-dimensional random
media, we show that the pattern-matching phase is asymptotically weakly
unstable, and the large scale properties of the system are given by that of an
adsorbed homopolymer.Comment: 5 pages, RevTeX, text also available at http://matisse.ucsd.edu/~hw
Transferable Rights of Recreational Fishery: An Application to Red Snapper Fishery in the Gulf of Mexico
Transferable rights (TRs) programs are being increasingly considered in fisheries to overcome current overfishing situation. This paper will focus on developing a conceptual foundation, investigating advantages of the TRs program in fishery management, and answering critical issues to implement recreational TRs programs. Implication is to the Gulf of Mexico red snapper fishery.Transferable Rights, Individual Transferable Quota, Recreational Fishery, Resource /Energy Economics and Policy, Q22,
A Color Mutation Model of Soft Interaction in High Energy Hadronic Collisions
A comprehensive model, called ECOMB, is proposed to describe multiparticle
production by soft interaction. It incorporates the eikonal formalism, parton
model, color mutation, branching and recombination. The physics is conceptually
opposite to the dynamics that underlies the fragmentation of a string. The
partons are present initially in a hadronic collision; they form a single,
large, color-neutral cluster until color mutation of the quarks leads to a
fission of the cluster into two color-neutral subclusters. The mutation and
branching processes continue until only pairs are left in each small
cluster. The model contains self-similar dynamics and exhibits scaling behavior
in the factorial moments. It can satisfactorily reproduce the intermittency
data that no other model has been able to fit.Comment: 24 pages including 11 figures in revtex epsf styl
