Outline of the Solar System: Activities for elementary students
An introduction to the solar system for the elementary school student is given. The introduction contains historical background, facts, and pertinent symbols concerning the sun, the nine major planets and their moons, and information about comets and asteroids. Aids to teaching are given, including a solar system crossword puzzle with answers
Pockets of Positivity: School leadersā Strategies for Developing School Inclusion for Students with Refugee and Asylum-seeking Backgrounds
Currently, millions of children and families with refugee and asylum-seeker experiences find themselves living in new countries, with different languages, dissimilar cultures, diverse expectations, and different forms of schooling. For school leaders, the challenge of integrating these students and their families, some of whom may have endured and be dealing with trauma and loss, can be challenging. This paper presents findings from a study involving twenty-two school leaders in five English-speaking Western countries (Australia, England, New Zealand, Northern Ireland and the United States), who have created places of wellbeing and belonging for these families. Five major findings from the research are discussed and suggestions for school leaders are offered. Of note, school leaders working with children and families with refugee and asylum-seeker experiences are encouraged to identify and implement high-quality ongoing professional development for staff. These leaders must learn to work within and to modify existing school policies that often have deleterious effects on this group of students and become adept at navigating the web of external resources and organisations that can offer support beyond what schools can provide. This research also offers suggestions for educator/teacher preparation programs as it is evident that working with and supporting this population is not a competency covered in most training programs
Predictive monitoring research: Summary of the PREMON system
Traditional approaches to monitoring are proving inadequate in the face of two important issues: the dynamic adjustment of expectations about sensor values when the behavior of the device is too complex to enumerate beforehand, and the selective but effective interpretation of sensor readings when the number of sensors becomes overwhelming. This system addresses these issues by building an explicit model of a device and applying common-sense theories of physics to model causality in the device. The resulting causal simulation of the device supports planning decisions about how to efficiently yet reliably utilize a limited number of sensors to verify correct operation of the device
Building Extension\u27s Capacity Through Knowledge of Global Aging Issues
A willingness to explore the global stage can improve and embellish Extension program development, implementation, and evaluation methods. Understanding various models of aging from around the world builds capacity and invites the cultivation of innovative responses in local communities. China is instructive to those interested in expanding their perspectives of older adult programming due to its large population, aging society, culture, and political reforms. Insight into Chinese efforts and the possible applicability of that response to Extension programming is shared through observations from the Seminar in Aging conducted by the American Society on Aging in Beijing in May 2007

Rhizoanalysis is introduced here as a way of processing through an assemblage involving research methodology, data generation and analytical possibilities entwined within. In concert, rhizomethodology is presented as a way of working (with) data, complexly; a way of putting the DeleuzoāGuattarian philosophical imaginary of rhizome to work. With/in/alongside this rhizomethodological approach, which I employed in my doctoral thesis, rhizoanalysis (as both process and product) is concurrent, becoming the inquiry of the research, (e)merging through the whole research process. In this everything is always already happening - dynamic, changing, in flux - disrupting any (mis)conception of rhizoanalysis as a specifically definable process with distinct and reproducible outcomes. Rather, there is an ongoing intermingling of data, methodology and analysis enmeshed with theorising the literature and practicing the theory, in which each becomes the/an/other.
