How does digitalization affect headquarters and what does it mean for CEE-focused headquarters in Austria?
Headquarters (HQs) represent central units within corporationsi and their goal is to add value to the firm and its respective subunits. They do so by taking over various responsibilities, such as allocating resources within the firm, coordinating and monitoring subunits, and identifying and realizing synergies, among others.
HQs are also important for the economy of the countries they are located in, as they offer for example high-value employment, increased demand for related business services (e.g., legal and financial services), and represent a non-trivial source of tax income. Additionally, there is scientific evidence suggesting that the location of the HQ influences its investment decisions and consequently adjacent economies (e.g., investments that are in regions close to the HQ are favoured). Thus, many countries consider it important to attract and maintain HQsii.
In this article, we will focus on a topic that has not received much attention yet. Specifically, we discuss how digitalization (i.e., recent advancements in areas such as big data analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, the internet of things, etc.) influences HQs in Austria, most of which have a strong focus on CEE countries. Companies are dealing with a variety of issues stemming from digitalization, which results in changes to business models, firm processes, and company culturesiii. Yet, digitalization also affects the role and value added of the HQs but we still lack a clear understanding of thativ.
In the following, we first discuss Austria as a location for HQs, then the impact of digitalization on HQs, and finally, we explore how the digitalization might influence the attractiveness of Austria for CEE-oriented HQs. Thereby, we refer to recent empirical material that we have collected

Bottom and charm production at LHC and RHIC
We study b¯b and c¯c production and the influence of nuclear shadowing at LHC and RHIC energies. We find a significant reduction in the production cross section of both charm and bottom at RHIC and LHC. Bound states such as and J/psi are suppressed by this reduction in the charm production cross sections. Therefore, J/psi suppression may not be useful as a signature for the quark gluon plasma. Resonant activation: a strategy against bacterial persistence
A bacterial colony may develop a small number of cells genetically identical
to, but phenotypically different from other normally growing bacteria. These
so-called persister cells keep themselves in a dormant state and thus are
insensitive to antibiotic treatment, resulting in serious problems of drug
resistance. In this paper, we proposed a novel strategy to "kill" persister
cells by triggering them to switch, in a fast and synchronized way, into
normally growing cells that are susceptible to antibiotics. The strategy is
based on resonant activation (RA), a well-studied phenomenon in physics where
the internal noise of a system can constructively facilitate fast and
synchronized barrier crossings. Through stochastic Gilliespie simulation with a
generic toggle switch model, we demonstrated that RA exists in the phenotypic
switching of a single bacterium. Further, by coupling single cell level and
population level simulations, we showed that with RA, one can greatly reduce
the time and total amount of antibiotics needed to sterilize a bacterial
population. We suggest that resonant activation is a general phenomenon in

Skyrme models and nuclear matter equation of state
We investigate the role of pressure in a class of generalised Skyrme models. We introduce pressure as the trace of the spatial part of the energy-momentum tensor and show that it obeys the usual thermodynamical relation. Then, we compute analytically the mean-field equation of state in the high and medium pressure regimes by applying topological bounds on compact domains. The equation of state is further investigated numerically for the charge one skyrmions. We identify which term in a generalised Skyrme model is responsible for which part in the equation of state. Further, we compare our findings with the corresponding results in the Walecka model
Critical properties of the one-dimensional spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model in the presence of a uniform field
In the presence of a uniform field the one-dimensional spin-
antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model develops zero frequency excitations at
field-dependent 'soft mode' momenta. We determine three types of critical
quantities, which we extract from the finite-size dependence of the lowest
excitation energies, the singularities in the static structure factors and the
infrared singularities in the dynamical structure factors at the soft mode
momenta. We also compare our results with the predictions of conformal field
