    The research project 'Model tests with models of SES in limited water depth' is part of the Project SUS-C 'Fast unconventional ships'. In group C are surface effect ships investigated. With the investigation of two SES in limited water depth in this project there was made a contribution for developing design gasics for this type of ships. There was manufactured a model of an SES, designed at Peene-Werft Wolgast together with MTG Marinetechnik GmbH. The waterlevel in SVA towing tank was reduced up to 2.5 m. A second model was delivered by Versuchsanstalt fuer Binnenschiffbau Duisburg (VBD). This is the model of a design of Blohm + Voss AG. With both models were resistance and propulsion tests carried out as well as in displacement condition and cusion. Four loadings were investigated.     In the present study the viscous flows around a wide varieties of propellers geometries are simulated. The solution method of the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations is based on the conservative finite volume method CFX-TASCflow. A method for the efficient generation of blocks structured hexahedra grids around marine propellers is developed. Numerical results were presented for different conventional and high skew propellers. The viscous flow around a ship-propeller-configuration is investigated. The space discretisation is based on a block-structured finite volume grid around the ship and the five blades of the propeller. Results are presented for the series S60 ship with rotating propeller.     Comprehensive investigations were carried out in cooperation with the university of Rostock to predict the influence of after body related to manoeuverability of containerships, especially to dynamical course stability. Several changes of the stern were fulfilled for a given containership. The influence of that variants on the manoeuverability was established. For that reason manoeuver test with free running models as well as measurements of forces and moments with fixed models were accomplished. The external forces predicted in such a way were used as the base for calculation of manoeuverability by means of computer programs. A new system for prediction of the coordinates of the centre of gravity of the ship during a measuring run was developed. The investigations have shown, that a containership tends to a course instability, and that the course stability makes worse in the case of decreasing speed. A bulb at the stern results in an unfavourable course stability. Nearly the same tendency will be produced by an asymmetrical after body. There are appreciable improvements due to an arrangement of a deadwood below. But an inprovement will not be obtained in the case of a deadwood above the propeller.
