Scientific Comparison of Different Online Heart Rate Monitoring Systems
Recent technical development focused on real-time heart rate monitoring instead of postexercise evaluation of recorded data. There are several systems on the market that allow direct and real-time monitoring of several individuals at the same time. The present study compared the systems of Polar, Acentas, Activio, and Suunto in a field test with twelve subjects regarding failure quota, operating distance, and ECG validity. Moreover, the installation and use of software and hardware were evaluated with a quality rating system. Chest belts were evaluated with a questionnaire, too. Overall the system of Acentas reached the best mark of all systems, but detailed results showed that every system has its advantages and disadvantages depending on using purpose, location, and weather. So this evaluation cannot recommend a single system but rather shows strength and weakness of all systems and additionally can be used for further system improvements
Using an ANFIS based short term load forecasting model for the optimization of micro-CHP operating strategies in domestic households
This paper presents a comprehensive concept for the development of an auto-adaptive optimization model seeking to determine optimal operating strategies of micro combined heat and power (CHP) units in domestic households with special respect to the energy-economic framework conditions in Germany. The methods proposed to be applied are an adaptive network based fuzzy inference sys-tem (ANFIS [1]) coupled with mixed-integer-linear programming (MIP).
Nowadays, most of micro-CHP units are driven heat led, due to their limited tech-nical ability of following the electric load profile (especially in case of fuel cell micro-CHP). However, the consumption-rate of locally self-generated electricity is crucial for the economics of micro-CHP systems. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to provide an economically optimized operating strategy which requires information about the household’s future load situation and therefore an appropriate individual short term load forecast (STLF). Furthermore, the concept described considers battery and hybrid electric vehicles as additional consumers of electric energy which enforces the necessity of optimized operation. Silicon Drift Detector Readout Electronics for a Compton Camera
A prototype detector for Compton camera imaging is under development. A
monolithic array of 19 channel Silicon drift detector with on-chip electronics
is going to be used as a scatter detector for the prototype system. Custom
designed analog and digital readout electronics for this detector was first
tested by using a single cell Silicon drift detector. This paper describes the
readout architecture and presents the results of the measurement.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, submitted to Nucl. Instr. Meth.
Model-Based Quantification of Load Shift Potentials and Optimized Charging of Electric Vehicles
Managing the charging process of a large number of electric vehicles to decrease the pressure on the local electricity
grid is of high interest to the utilities. Using efficient mathematical optimization techniques, the charging behavior of
electric vehicles shall be optimally controlled taking into account network, vehicle, and customer requirements. We
developed an efficient algorithm for calculating load shift potentials defined as the range of all charging curves meeting
the customer’s requirements and respecting all individual charging and discharging constraints over time. In addition,
we formulated a mixed integer linear program (MIP) applying semi-continuous variables to find cost-optimal load
curves for every vehicle participating in a load shift. This problem can be solved by e.g. branch-and-bound algorithms.
Results of two scenarios of Germany in 2015 and 2030 based on mobility studies show that the load shifting potential of
EV is significant and contribute to a necessary relaxation of the future grid. The maximum charging and discharging
power and the average battery capacity are crucial to the overall load shift potential
