THE INDIAN GROWTH MIRACLE AND ENDOGENOUS GROWTH

    Get PDF
Using over half a century of R&D data for India, this paper tests whether the second-generation endogenous growth theories are consistent with India’s growth experience. Furthermore, the paper also examines the extent to which growth in India can be explained by R&D activity, international R&D spillovers, catch-up to the technology frontier and policy reforms. The empirical results show that the growth in India over the past five decades has been significantly driven by research intensity following the predictions of Schumpeterian growth theory.Schumpeterian growth; semi-endogenous growth; R&D.

Proxy Signature Scheme with Effective Revocation Using Bilinear Pairings

We present a proxy signature scheme using bilinear pairings that provides effective proxy revocation. The scheme uses a binding-blinding technique to avoid secure channel requirements in the key issuance stage. With this technique, the signer receives a partial private key from a trusted authority and unblinds it to get his private key, in turn, overcomes the key escrow problem which is a constraint in most of the pairing-based proxy signature schemes. The scheme fulfills the necessary security requirements of proxy signature and resists other possible threats

SyBrid - A New Breeding Method for Food Legumes

    Get PDF
Legumes in general, are grown under subsistence agriculture and their productivity is invariably low. Being predominantly a self –pollinated group of crops, only inbred cultivars were bred in the past with marginal yield advantages. An alternate breeding method has been proposed that is capable of exploiting part of hybrid vigour to improve yield potential of some legume crops without any serious seed production hassle. The breeding product, named “SyBrid”, is an amalgam of the concepts of breeding synthetic and hybrid cultivars. It uses natural cross-pollination but no male sterility system. Potentially, the “SyBrid” cultivars are expected to boost yield by a margin of 10-15% or more. The seed production of “SyBrid” cultivars is cost effective and easy

Solitary waves in a two-dimensional nonlinear Dirac equation: from discrete to continuum

    Get PDF
In the present work, we explore a nonlinear Dirac equation motivated as the continuum limit of a binary waveguide array model. We approach the problem both from a near-continuum perspective as well as from a highly discrete one. Starting from the former, we see that the continuum Dirac solitons can be continued for all values of the discretization (coupling) parameter, down to the uncoupled (so-called anti-continuum) limit where they result in a 9-site configuration. We also consider configurations with 1- or 2-sites at the anti-continuum limit and continue them to large couplings, finding that they also persist. For all the obtained solutions, we examine not only the existence, but also the spectral stability through a linearization analysis and finally consider prototypical examples of the dynamics for a selected number of cases for which the solutions are found to be unstable

The glass transition and crystallization kinetic studies on BaNaB9O15 glasses

Transparent glasses of BaNaB9O15 (BNBO) were fabricated via the conventional melt-quenching technique. The amorphous and the glassy nature of the as-quenched samples were respectively, confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The glass transition and crystallization parameters were evaluated under non-isothermal conditions using DSC. The correlation between the heating rate dependent glass transition and the crystallization temperatures was discussed and deduced the Kauzmann temperature for BNBO glass-plates and powdered samples. The values of the Kauzmann temperature for the plates and powdered samples were 776 K and 768 K, respectively. Approximation-free method was used to evaluate the crystallization kinetic parameters for the BNBO glass samples. The effect of the sample thickness on the crystallization kinetics of BNBO glasses was also investigated.Comment: 23 pages, 12 figure
