Towards a taxonomy of innovation systems
The concept of National Innovation System (NIS) has been recently applied in the context of developing nations even tough it was originally developed in relation to the more developed economies (Japan, Scandinavian countries, US etc.). This raises the methodological problem of knowing whether what was learnt in the study of more advanced NISs is relevant for all sorts of economies regardless the maturity of their actual innovation systems. With this question in mind an exploratory exercise is implemented. First a technique for mapping different NIS is put forward and next based on such mapping a taxonomy of NISs is proposed. The technique although simple in the steps it requires shows analytical potential. The cartography it generates allows one to compare directly different countries, by visualizing in bi-dimensional space the graphic pattern of the relevant dimensions of their respective NISs. This technique is applied to 69 countries (87.4% of the world population) and a set of 29 indicators is used to examine these NISs along eight major dimensions. With the resulting data, and with the help of cluster analysis, a taxonomy of innovation systems is proposed. That taxonomy which contains 6 major types of NISs indicates that what differentiates most the individual systems is their performance in three critical dimensions: innovation, diffusion and basic and applied knowledge. Country size and the natural resources endowment of the economies also emerge as important contingency factors underlying the overall dynamics of different NISs.innovation; national innovation systems; economic development.
Convergence Properties of the Likelihood of Computed Dynamic Models
This paper studies the econometrics of computed dynamic models. Since these models generally lack a closed-form solution, economists approximate the policy functions of the agents in the model with numerical methods. But this implies that, instead of the exact likelihood function, the researcher can evaluate only an approximated likelihood associated with the approximated policy function. What are the consequences for inference of the use of approximated likelihoods? First, we show that as the approximated policy function converges to the exact policy, the approximated likelihood also converges to the exact likelihood. Second, we prove that the approximated likelihood converges at the same rate as the approximated policy function. Third, we find that the error in the approximated likelihood gets compounded with the size of the sample. Fourth, we discuss convergence of Bayesian and classical estimates. We complete the paper with three applications to document the quantitative importance of our results.computed dynamic models, likelihood inference, asymptotic properties
Complex magnetism of B20-MnGe: from spin-spirals, hedgehogs to monopoles
B20 compounds are the playground for various non-trivial magnetic textures
such as skyrmions, which are topologically protected states. Recent
measurements on B20-MnGe indicate no clear consensus on its magnetic behavior,
which is characterized by the presence of either spin-spirals or 3-dimensional
objects interpreted to be a cubic lattice of hedgehogs and anti-hedgehogs.
Utilizing a massively parallel linear scaling all-electron density functional
algorithm, we find from full first-principles simulations on cells containing
thousands of atoms that upon increase of the compound volume, the state with
lowest energy switches across different magnetic phases: ferromagnetic,
spin-spiral, hedgehog and monopole
Strategies of German Bundesliga and English Premier League clubs for the COVID‑19 crisis: the case of international broadcasting fans
Funding for open access charge: Universidad de Granada / CBUA.During the COVID-19 pandemic that paused sports worldwide, the German Bundesliga
League (GBL) and English Premier League (EPL) took two different strategic
approaches to agree with their players on returning to play. To become better
informed and prepared for future crisis management, this study examines consumer
responses to these opposing strategies. We also identify how perceived organizational
legitimacy, trustworthiness, reliance, and justifiability have an impact on
consumer multimedia consumption of the games. A sample of 503 participants
responded to an online questionnaire regarding the contrasting decisions taken by
the GBL and the EPL during the global health crisis. SEM with multi-group analysis
was conducted to test the research hypotheses. When comparing the two selected
sport leagues, the league that reached an agreement with their players experienced
higher levels of perceived legitimacy while needing fewer perceptions of trustworthiness,
reliance, and justifiability to obtain higher multimedia consumption intention
from consumers.

corretamente a situação clÃnica do doente.
The complex situation of critical patients and the amount of data available in Intensive Care Units (ICU) makes difficult to obtain useful knowledge to the decision. Adding the fact that in ICU there is a large number of data on paper the decision maker cannot interpret correctly and in short time all the information acquired. In this context the human factor can cause errors in decision-making process (DMP), because normally the intensivist does not have enough time to properly analyse the clinical condition of the patient. To facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and support the ICU decision process by their professionals, a global platform was developed. Among the various features, this platform allows patient monitoring and forecasting future events continuously and in real time, presenting whenever is possible new knowledge which can contribute significantly to the improvement of the clinical status of a patient
Diabetic Foot Ulcers Classification using a fine-tuned CNNs Ensemble
Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFU) are lesions in the foot region caused by diabetes mellitus. It is essential to define the appropriate treatment in the early stages of the disease once late treatment may result in amputation. This article proposes an ensemble approach composed of five modified convolutional neural networks (CNNs) - VGG-16, VGG-19, Resnet50, InceptionV3, and Densenet-201 - to classify DFU images. To define the parameters, we fine-tuned the CNNs, evaluated different configurations of fully connected layers, and used batch normalization and dropout operations. The modified CNNs were well suited to the problem; however, we observed that the union of the five CNNs significantly increased the success rates. We performed tests using 8,250 images with different resolution, contrast, color, and texture characteristics and included data augmentation operations to expand the training dataset. 5-fold cross-validation led to an average accuracy of 95.04%, resulting in a Kappa index greater than 91.85%, considered Excellent
