New supersymmetric higher-derivative couplings: Full N=2 superspace does not count!

    Get PDF
An extended class of N=2 locally supersymmetric invariants with higher-derivative couplings based on full superspace integrals, is constructed. These invariants may depend on unrestricted chiral supermultiplets, on vector supermultiplets and on the Weyl supermultiplet. Supersymmetry is realized off-shell. A non-renormalization theorem is proven according to which none of these invariants can contribute to the entropy and electric charges of BPS black holes. Some of these invariants may be relevant for topological string deformations.Comment: 24 pages, v2: version published in JHEP, one reference added and typos corrected, v3: reference adde

Duality covariant non-BPS first order systems

We study extremal black hole solutions to four dimensional N=2 supergravity based on a cubic symmetric scalar manifold. Using the coset construction available for these models, we define the first order flow equations implied by the corresponding nilpotency conditions on the three-dimensional scalar momenta for the composite non-BPS class of multi-centre black holes. As an application, we directly solve these equations for the single-centre subclass, and write the general solution in a manifestly duality covariant form. This includes all single-centre under-rotating non-BPS solutions, as well as their non-interacting multi-centre generalisations.Comment: 31 pages, v2: Discussion of the quadratic constraint clarified, references added, typos corrected, published versio

    Nernst branes from special geometry

We construct new black brane solutions in U(1)U(1) gauged N=2{\cal N}=2 supergravity with a general cubic prepotential, which have entropy density sT1/3s\sim T^{1/3} as T0T \rightarrow 0 and thus satisfy the Nernst Law. By using the real formulation of special geometry, we are able to obtain analytical solutions in closed form as functions of two parameters, the temperature TT and the chemical potential μ\mu. Our solutions interpolate between hyperscaling violating Lifshitz geometries with (z,θ)=(0,2)(z,\theta)=(0,2) at the horizon and (z,θ)=(1,1)(z,\theta)=(1,-1) at infinity. In the zero temperature limit, where the entropy density goes to zero, we recover the extremal Nernst branes of Barisch et al, and the parameters of the near horizon geometry change to (z,θ)=(3,1)(z,\theta)=(3,1).Comment: 37 pages. v2: numerical pre-factors of scalar fields q_A corrected in Section 3. First-order flows and stabilisation equations for non-BPS extremal black holes

    Get PDF
We derive a generalised form of flow equations for extremal static and rotating non-BPS black holes in four-dimensional ungauged N = 2 supergravity coupled to vector multiplets. For particular charge vectors, we give stabilisation equations for the scalars, analogous to the BPS case, describing full known solutions. Based on this, we propose a generic ansatz for the stabilisation equations, which surprisingly includes ratios of harmonic functions.Comment: 27 pages; v2: presentation improved and references added as in the published versio

Black hole microstates in AdS4 from supersymmetric localization

    Get PDF
Abstract: This paper addresses a long standing problem, the counting of the microstates of supersymmetric asymptotically AdS black holes in terms of a holographically dual field theory. We focus on a class of asymptotically AdS4static black holes preserving two real supercharges which are dual to a topologically twisted deformation of the ABJM theory. We evaluate in the large N limit the topologically twisted index of the ABJM theory and we show that it correctly reproduces the entropy of the AdS4black holes. An extremization of the index with respect to a set of chemical potentials is required. We interpret it as the selection of the exact R-symmetry of the superconformal quantum mechanics describing the horizon of the black hole
