Measure of Autocorrelation Times of Local Hybrid Monte Carlo Algorithm for Lattice QCD
We report on a study of the autocorrelation times of the local version of the
Hybrid Monte Carlo (LHMC) algorithm for pure gauge . We compare LHMC to
standard multi-hit Metropolis and to the global version of the same HMC. For
every algorithm we measure the autocorrelation time for a variety of
observables and the string tension as a function of beta. The measurements
performed on 8^4 and 16^4 lattices indicate that the autocorrelation time of
LHMC is significantly shorter than for the other two algorithms.Comment: 11 pages Latex, UPRF June 93 preprint /370
In silico evidence of the relationship between miRNAs and siRNAs
Both short interfering RNAs (siRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) mediate the
repression of specific sequences of mRNA through the RNA interference pathway.
In the last years several experiments have supported the hypothesis that siRNAs
and miRNAs may be functionally interchangeable, at least in cultured cells. In
this work we verify that this hypothesis is also supported by a computational
evidence. We show that a method specifically trained to predict the activity of
the exogenous siRNAs assigns a high silencing level to experimentally
determined human miRNAs. This result not only supports the idea of siRNAs and
miRNAs equivalence but indicates that it is possible to use computational tools
developed using synthetic small interference RNAs to investigate endogenous
miRNAs.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figure
Banks, local credit markets and credit supply
The volume collects the papers presented at the Conference on "Banks, Local Credit Markets and Credit Supply" held in Milan, on 24 March 2010. The papers presented at the two sessions of the Conference analyse how banks' lending activities are organized and how this affects the supply of credit to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The first session focuses on new lending technologies and banking organization. The second session studies how these organizational variables affect the lending activity to SMEs. The papers draw on the results of a sample survey of more than 300 Italian banks conducted by the Bank of Italy in 2007.banking organization, credit scoring, relationship lending, soft information
Triple negative breast cancer: new perspectives for targeted therapies
Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease, encompassing a large number of entities showing different morphological features and having clinical behaviors. It has became apparent that this diversity may be justified by distinct patterns of genetic, epigenetic, and transcriptomic aberrations. The identification of gene-expression microarray-based characteristics has led to the identification of at least five breast cancer subgroups: luminal A, luminal B, normal breast-like, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2, and basal-like. Triple-negative breast cancer is a complex disease diagnosed by immunohistochemistry, and it is characterized by malignant cells not expressing estrogen receptors or progesterone receptors at all, and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2. Along with this knowledge, recent data show that triple-negative breast cancer has specific molecular features that could be possible targets for new biological targeted drugs. The aim of this article is to explore the use of new drugs in this particular setting, which is still associated with poor prognosis and high risk of distant recurrence and death
A stochastic framework to model bending of textile antennas
The polynomial chaos expansion is combined with a dedicated cylindrical cavity model to quantify the statistical variations in textile antenna performance under random bending conditions
