Interleaved, switched-inductor, multi-phase, multi-device DC/DC boost converter for nonisolated and high conversion ratio fuel cell applications
Fuel cell power conditioners often require high step-up voltage gains to accommodate low
input fuel cell voltages into high voltage busses. Traditional non-isolated DC-DC boost
converters are unable to offer such as gains because of several parasitic elements and nonideal
behaviour of power semiconductors and driving circuits. Moreover, paralleled converters
are also desirable to simplify power-up scaling and to reduce input/output current
ripples. In this context, a very versatile non-isolated, high step-up voltage gain, interleaved
boost converter is presented in this work. Steady-state analysis, simulation and evaluation
of different converter structures are discussed in detail. Finally, a 500-W experimental
prototype for Nexa Ballard 1.2 kW fuel cell specifications has been implemented and tested
to verify the performance
Adjustment index pont for women and men
Arch of men and women is different, in men the dental arch is wide and in women of parabolic shape. There are indexes and methods for the prediction of the width and shape of the ideal arch in orthodontics; one of these indices is that of Pont whichdoes not take into account the differences between the sexes. Objectives: determine the effectiveness of the Pont index to employ men and women, adjust if necessary to the formulas of the Pont index to be able to apply to men and women. Materialsand methods: the research is descriptive, experimental and transverse. The sample was 139 study models, 94 models were of patients female and 45 of male patients, so 45 models of female patients at random were selected to match the samples. The actual values of the sample of men were compared using a Student's t with women and the result of analysis of Pont in men and women. Was carried out adjustment of the constants of the Pont index for women and men, we apply to both populations; the result was compared with the actual values interpremolar and intermolar in maxilla and mandible. Results: the analysis of Pont is not effective for use in men and women from Nayarit, there were differences between the two populations, the adjustments made for the female and male population was effective for use in the population of Nayarit. Conclusions: Pont index is not applicable because it overestimates the values of the male and female population of the population of Nayarit. The settings were effective and he is recommended to evaluate it for other populations.
Common and rare variant association analyses in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis identify 15 risk loci with distinct genetic architectures and neuron-specific biology
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease with a lifetime risk of one in 350 people and an unmet need for disease-modifying therapies. We conducted a cross-ancestry genome-wide association study (GWAS) including 29,612 patients with ALS and 122,656 controls, which identified 15 risk loci. When combined with 8,953 individuals with whole-genome sequencing (6,538 patients, 2,415 controls) and a large cortex-derived expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) dataset (MetaBrain), analyses revealed locus-specific genetic architectures in which we prioritized genes either through rare variants, short tandem repeats or regulatory effects. ALS-associated risk loci were shared with multiple traits within the neurodegenerative spectrum but with distinct enrichment patterns across brain regions and cell types. Of the environmental and lifestyle risk factors obtained from the literature, Mendelian randomization analyses indicated a causal role for high cholesterol levels. The combination of all ALS-associated signals reveals a role for perturbations in vesicle-mediated transport and autophagy and provides evidence for cell-autonomous disease initiation in glutamatergic neurons. A cross-ancestry genome-wide association meta-analysis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) including 29,612 patients with ALS and 122,656 controls identifies 15 risk loci with distinct genetic architectures and neuron-specific biology

Prevalence, associated factors and outcomes of pressure injuries in adult intensive care unit patients: the DecubICUs study
Funder: European Society of Intensive Care Medicine; doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/501100013347Funder: Flemish Society for Critical Care NursesAbstract: Purpose: Intensive care unit (ICU) patients are particularly susceptible to developing pressure injuries. Epidemiologic data is however unavailable. We aimed to provide an international picture of the extent of pressure injuries and factors associated with ICU-acquired pressure injuries in adult ICU patients. Methods: International 1-day point-prevalence study; follow-up for outcome assessment until hospital discharge (maximum 12 weeks). Factors associated with ICU-acquired pressure injury and hospital mortality were assessed by generalised linear mixed-effects regression analysis. Results: Data from 13,254 patients in 1117 ICUs (90 countries) revealed 6747 pressure injuries; 3997 (59.2%) were ICU-acquired. Overall prevalence was 26.6% (95% confidence interval [CI] 25.9–27.3). ICU-acquired prevalence was 16.2% (95% CI 15.6–16.8). Sacrum (37%) and heels (19.5%) were most affected. Factors independently associated with ICU-acquired pressure injuries were older age, male sex, being underweight, emergency surgery, higher Simplified Acute Physiology Score II, Braden score 3 days, comorbidities (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, immunodeficiency), organ support (renal replacement, mechanical ventilation on ICU admission), and being in a low or lower-middle income-economy. Gradually increasing associations with mortality were identified for increasing severity of pressure injury: stage I (odds ratio [OR] 1.5; 95% CI 1.2–1.8), stage II (OR 1.6; 95% CI 1.4–1.9), and stage III or worse (OR 2.8; 95% CI 2.3–3.3). Conclusion: Pressure injuries are common in adult ICU patients. ICU-acquired pressure injuries are associated with mainly intrinsic factors and mortality. Optimal care standards, increased awareness, appropriate resource allocation, and further research into optimal prevention are pivotal to tackle this important patient safety threat
