Strategic and Policy Issues in Airline Industry

    No full text
This report focuses on strategic alliance. At the beginning of the report, we t review the airline industry agreements in the past 30 years after that we present the strategic alliance as a survival strategy in this industry. Later we review characteristics of an attractive strategic partner and we discuss how those characteristics fit star alliance’s members. Finally we discuss effects of strategic alliances on partner’s outputs, frequency of services, market outcome, consumer welfare, inter-continental traffic routing patterns, its impacts on traffic routing patterns, liberalizing bilateral agreement, and geographical locations on Star alliance which is one of the most powerful alliances around the worlds by using hypothetical model. We finally conclude our lesson learned form this project

Nurse Scheduling at St. Vincent Emergency Room

Efficient scheduling can help reduce management cost, improve hospital ranking, and raise patient level of satisfaction. In general, nurse managers are looking for basic ways to create a schedule to meet core-staffing requirements and to distribute staffing coverage across the week and for all shifts. Hospitals can no longer afford to rely on manual process of nurse scheduling and day-to-day shift assignment with high demand in health care and complex scheduling problems. In this paper we will define and discuss in details the nurse-scheduling problems that encounter St. Vincent hospital emergency room. Our objective is to prove that using mathematical model with linear goal programming (LGP) would help: firstly, solve a complex nurse-scheduling problem. Secondly to define and build a successful scheduling algorithm that satisfies our optimal objective and all constraints. Our staffing and scheduling models can determine the following: Enough staff is scheduled to work per shift Enough staff is scheduled to handle patients needs accurately Help reduce the cost of hiring additional manpower Our goal of this project is to satisfy as many constraints and other personal preferences as possible while implementing an efficient schedule that meets the required personnel coverage of the hospital over a defined period of time

Intellectual Property has become an important issue in software business. Much literature and many arguments have stated whether IP protection benefits software business, especially in the open source. Some do support IP protection in the open source, on the other hand, others disagree the IP protection in open source. The purpose of this report is to critique the argument of “Does IP protection benefit Open Source?” by referring to reliable literatures and current arguments. Additionally, we use an example of Linux phenomenon to support our idea

Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Boy Scout Project Plan

Following it\u27s foundation on February 8, 1910, the Boy Scouts of America have continued to develop boys into the leaders of tomorrow. To continue this tradition, along with taking advantage of the historical research opportunities associated with the Lewis and Clark bicentennial celebration, a project plan is being developed for the Boy Scouts to participate in the celebration. The Boy Scouts will push for continued progress toward rank advancement and merit badge requirements, while reenacting many activities of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Associated with these activities, advertisement, patches and medals will also need to be accounted for, to make this project a success. Using past lessons learned and constraints as defined by the BSA council, a project plan has been created looking at high level requirements for this project A WBS and Gantt chart were created and available for the project manager to continue the project life cycle. The project manager for this project, along with common PM requirements, will need to have a familiarity with the BSA structure and key contacts to successfully pull in needed resources. Project controls will also be required to keep the project on schedule, under budget and successful in meeting the objectives. The next steps needed are to defined resources, owners and completion dates for project requirements in the current plan. Following execution and completion of the bicentennial celebrations, a post-mortem should be completed to continue building on lessons learned for future projects

    Team Report 2 – Team 3

This paper discusses the experiences made by team 3 in Dr. Milosevic’s Communications and Teambuilding class in spring 2004. It is shown what the team had to do, how it approached the different tasks and how the team developed over time. Problems are pointed out and discussed. Finally a list of lessons learned is presented as recommendations for teambuilding in general
