    The ecology of peace : preparing Colombia for new political and planetary climates

    ABSTRACT: Colombia, one of the world’s most species-rich nations, is currently undergoing a profound social transition: the end of a decadeslong conflict with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as FARC. The peace agreement process will likely transform the country’s physical and socioeconomic landscapes at a time when humans are altering Earth’s atmosphere and climate in unprecedented ways. We discuss ways in which these transformative events will act in combination to shape the ecological and environmental future of Colombia. We also highlight the risks of creating perverse development incentives in these critical times, along with the potential benefits – for the country and the world – if Colombia can navigate through the peace process in a way that protects its own environment and ecosystems

    The Research Journey as a Challenge Towards New Trends

    The academic community of the department of Risaralda, in its permanent interest in evidencing the results of the research processes that are carried out from the Higher Education Institutions and as a product of the VI meeting of researchers of the department of Risaralda held in November 2021 presents its work: “The journey of research as a challenge towards new trends”, which reflects the result of the latest research and advances in different lines of knowledge in Agricultural Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Technology and Information Sciences, which seek to solve and meet the demands of the different sectors.     Estabilización Del Pigmento Azul Ultramar En Cemento Pórtland Blanco

    Samples of blue cement were prepared from white Portland cement type III, according to Colombian Standards (CS) and ultramarine blue pigment U-601 like admixture in 2% in weight of cement. Cement was chemistry tested by fluorescence of X-ray, and physical properties according to CS. Pigment and cement were tested in chromatic parameters by spectrophotometer through CIELAB system. Some additives and admixtures were selected (among organic, inorganic and mineral) to be added to the blue cement in a ranging of weight of cement. Samples of blue cement without additives but also those samples with different dosages of additives in the selected range were tested in physical and chromatic properties for different ages (1, 3, 7 and 28 days) when specimens were immersed in water saturated with lime. Additional to this, chromatic properties to some specimens at the laboratory conditions were tested at the same ages of time. Blue color completely disappeared with all organic additives and partially disappeared in some inorganic additives and mineral admixtures. Setting time, compressive strength and others characteristic of cement were affected, in some cases positive and in others negative, like effect of the different quantities of additives and admixtures added to the blue cement.Se prepararon muestras de cemento azul a partir de cemento Pórtland Blanco Tipo III, según Normas Técnicas Colombianas NTC y pigmento Azul Ultramar U-601 adicionado en un 2% en peso del cemento. Tanto a las muestras de cemento azul sin aditivo como a aquellas con las diferentes dosificaciones de aditivos, se les determinaron sus características físicas de desempeño y coordenadas cromáticas a diferentes edades de curado en agua saturada con cal (1, 3, 7 y 28 días). Adicionalmente se les determinó el color en las mismas edades a especimenes curados a las condiciones ambientales del laboratorio. Se presentó decoloración total en todos aquellos cementos adicionados con aditivos orgánicos, y decoloración parcial en los cementos adicionados con algunos de los aditivos inorgánicos y ciertas adiciones minerales. Tanto los tiempos de fraguado, como las resistencias a la compresión y demás variables de desempeño experimentaron cambios significativos, en algunos casos positivos y en otros negativos, como consecuencia y efecto de las diferentes dosificaciones utilizadas de cada uno de los aditivos

    Para la elaboración de este proyecto se tuvo en cuenta los conceptos del seminario taller de “licitaciones y contratación”, aplicado al proyecto “Construcción del Centro Educativo Rural Santa Cruz, vereda Sofía municipio de Yolombó Antioquia”, para lo cual se ha tomado la totalidad de los elementos diseñados para este proyecto. De esta manera nuestra secuencia en la elaboración del proyecto es la siguiente:Con base al paquete técnico (planos) y las especificaciones técnicas del proyecto, se determinaron las actividades, los análisis de precios unitarios (APU) y los sub análisis, con los cuales se obtuvo el valor total del proyecto y por último, la programación de obra bajo el programa Project de Microsoft. Con todos estos elementos se construye un presupuesto con sus respectivos capítulos y subcapítulos, de una forma lógica y secuencial, permitiendo una ejecución ordenada de cada una de las actividades y de esta manera, obtener una base denominada presupuesto oficial que sirve de base para tomar decisiones importantes a la hora de adelantar el proceso de contratación.Introducción. -- 1. Con el objeto de proporcionar una visión general de las posibilidades que el uso de este material tiene en la industria nacional, en este trabajo se da una mirada a los aspectos básicos del material y de los procesos de obtención del mismo, así como a sus aplicaciones más promisorias y con potencial de ser desarrolladas en Colombia.     Post-chikungunya chronic inflammatory rheumatism: results from a retrospective follow-up study of 283 adult and child cases in La Virginia, Risaralda, Colombia [version 1; referees: 2 approved]

    Objective: There are limited studies in Latin America regarding the chronic consequences of the Chikungunya virus (CHIK), such as post-CHIK chronic inflammatory rheumatism (pCHIK-CIR). We assessed the largest cohort so far of pCHIK-CIR in Latin America, at the municipality of La Virginia, Risaralda, a new endemic area of CHIK in Colombia. Methods: We conducted a cohort retrospective study in Colombia of 283 patients diagnosed with CHIK that persisted with pCHIK-CIR after a minimum of 6 weeks and up to a maximum of 26.1 weeks. pCHIK cases were identified according to validated criteria via telephone. Results: Of the total CHIK-infected subjects, 152 (53.7%) reported persistent rheumatological symptoms (pCHIK-CIR). All of these patients reported joint pains (chronic polyarthralgia, pCHIK-CPA), 49.5% morning stiffness, 40.6% joint edema, and 16.6% joint redness. Of all patients, 19.4% required and attended for care prior to the current study assessment (1.4% consulting rheumatologists). Significant differences in the frequency were observed according to age groups and gender. Patients aged >40 years old required more medical attention (39.5%) than those ≤40 years-old (12.1%) (RR=4.748, 95%CI 2.550-8.840). Conclusions: According to our results, at least half of the patients with CHIK developed chronic rheumatologic sequelae, and from those with pCHIK-CPA, nearly half presented clinical symptoms consistent with inflammatory forms of the disease. These results support previous estimates obtained from pooled data of studies in La Reunion (France) and India and are consistent with the results published previously from other Colombian cohorts in Venadillo (Tolima) and Since (Sucre)
