Multifunction MMIC For Miniaturized Solid State Switch Matrix
This paper describes a new multifunction MMIC expressly designed for a reconfiguration matrix equipment.This MMIC has been developed using a standard PHEMT process and includes two switches,a totally switchable-off amplifier and a temperature compensation circuit.The complete circuit has also been designed to interface a standard CMOS control level. Performed simulations and obtained results demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in reaching compactness and reliability of satellite equipment

Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) represents the standard of care for patients with exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. However, NIV fails in almost 40% of the most severe forms of acute hypercapnic respiratory failure and patients must undergo endotracheal intubation and invasive ventilation. Such transition from NIV to invasive ventilation is associated to increased mortality. Under these circumstances, patients may express a clear intention not to be intubated
HPV16 E5 expression induces switching from FGFR2b to FGFR2c and epithelial-mesenchymal transition
The E5 oncoprotein of the human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16 E5) deregulates epithelial homeostasis through the modulation of receptor tyrosine kinases and their signaling. Accordingly, the fibroblast growth factor receptor 2b (FGFR2b/KGFR), epithelial splicing transcript variant of the FGFR2, is down-modulated by the viral protein expression, leading to impairment of keratinocyte differentiation. Here, we report that, in cell models of transfected human keratinocytes as well as in cervical epithelial cells containing episomal HPV16, the down-regulation of FGFR2b induced by 16E5 is associated with the aberrant expression of the mesenchymal FGFR2c isoform as a consequence of splicing switch: in fact, quantitative RT-PCR analysis showed that this molecular event is transcriptionally regulated by the epithelial splicing regulatory proteins 1 and 2 (ESRP1 and ESRP2) and is able to produce effects synergistic with those caused by TGFβ treatment. Immunofluorescence analysis revealed that this altered FGFR2 splicing leads to changes in the specificity for the ligands FGFs and in the cellular response, triggering epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Through 16E5 or FGFR2 silencing as well as inhibition of FGFR2 activity we demonstrated the direct role of the viral protein in the receptor isoform switching and EMT, suggesting that these early molecular events during HPV infection might represent additional mechanisms driving cervical transformation and tumor progression

Cranial neuralgias: from physiopathology to pharmacological treatment
Cranial neuralgias are paroxysmal painful disorders of the head characterised by some shared features such as unilaterality of symptoms, transience and recurrence of attacks, superficial and "shock-like" quality of pain and the presence of triggering factors. Although rare, these disorders must be promptly recognised as they harbour a relatively high risk for underlying compressive or inflammatory disease. Nevertheless, misdiagnosis is frequent. Trigeminal and glossopharyngeal neuralgias are sustained in most cases by a neurovascular conflict in the posterior fossa resulting in a hyperexcitability state of the trigeminal circuitry. If the aetiology of trigeminal neuralgia (TN) and other typical neuralgias must be brought back to the peripheral injury, their pathogenesis could involve central allodynic mechanisms, which, in patients with inter-critical pain, also engage the nociceptive neurons at the thalamic-cortical level. Currently available medical treatments for TN and other cranial neuralgias are reviewed

Migration is a defining issue of our time, with 1 billion migrants globally, of whom 258 million have crossed borders. Climate change and political instability propel ever-greater displacement, with major detriments to health. Molecular gas and nuclear activity in early-type galaxies: any link with radio-loudness?
Aims. We want to study the amount of molecular gas in a sample of nearby
early-type galaxies (ETGs) which host low-luminosity Active Galactic Nuclei
(AGN). We look for possible differences between the radio-loud (RL) and
radio-quiet (RQ) AGN. Methods. We observed the CO(1-0) and CO(2-1) spectral
lines with the IRAM 30m and NRO 45m telescopes for eight galaxies. They belong
to a large sample of 37 local ETGs which host both RQ and RL AGN. We gather
data from the literature for the entire sample. Results. We report the new
detection of CO(1-0) emission in four galaxies (UGC0968, UGC5617, UGC6946, and
UGC8355) and CO(2-1) emission in two of them (UGC0968 and UGC5617). The
CO(2-1)/CO(1-0) ratio in these sources is . Considering both the
new observations and the literature, the detection rate of CO in our sample is
55 9%, with no statistically significant difference between the hosts of
RL and RQ AGNs. For all the detected galaxies we converted the CO luminosities
into the molecular masses, , that range from 10 to 10
M, without any statistically significant differences between RL and
RQ galaxies. This suggests that the amount of molecular gas does not likely set
the radio-loudness of the AGN. Furthermore, despite the low statistical
significance, the presence of a weak trend between the H mass with
various tracers of nuclear activity (mainly [O III] emission line nuclear
