Seroprotection after hepatitis B vaccination in children aged 1 to 15 years in central province of Iran, Semnan
Introduction. There are controversies over the long-term persistence of post vaccination immunity to hepatitis B and the need for booster doses of the vaccine. The aim of this study was to verify antibody levels of antibody against hepatitis B virus surface antigen (anti-HBs) in children aged 1 to 15 years who received vaccination against hepatitis B in the central province of Iran, Semnan. Materials and methods. We performed a seroepidemiological survey (n = 210) of anti-HBs in 2011 in the central province of Iran, Semnan using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The levels of anti-HBs inf. 10 mIU/mL were considered to be negative and samples showing an anti-HBs titer ? 10 mIU/mL was considered protective. Results. Protective antibody levels were detected in 88% of the children less than 5 year after vaccination, decreased to 78% between 5 to 10 years after vaccination, and further declined to 74% in 10 years after vaccination, respectively. Conclusion. The vaccination program has been proven effective in Semnan and immunological protection against hepatitis B infection was found in the majority of children even more than 10 years after being vaccinated
WhoLoDancE: Towards a methodology for selecting Motion Capture Data across different Dance Learning Practice
<p>In this paper we present the objectives and preliminary work of WhoLoDancE a Research and Innovation Action funded under the European Unionâs Horizon 2020 programme, aiming at using new technologies for capturing and analyzing dance movement to facilitate whole-body interaction learning experiences for a variety of dance genres. Dance is a diverse and heterogeneous practice and WhoLoDancE will develop a protocol for the creation and/or selection of dance sequences drawn from different dance styles for different teaching and learning modalities. As dance learning practice lacks standardization beyond dance genres and specific schools and techniques, one of the first project challenges is to bring together a variety of dance genres and teaching practices and work towards a methodology for selecting the appropriate shots for motion capturing, to acquire kinetic material which will provide a satisfying proof of concept for Learning scenarios of particular genres. The four use cases we are investigating are 1) classical ballet, 2) contemporary dance, 3) flamenco and 4) Greek folk dance.</p
Brief oral health promotion intervention among parents of young children to reduce early childhood dental decay
Background: Severe untreated dental decay affects a childâs growth, body weight, quality of life as well as cognitive development, and the effects extend beyond the child to the family, the community and the health care system. Early health behavioural factors, including dietary practices and eating patterns, can play a major role in the initiation and development of oral diseases, particularly dental caries. The parent/caregiver, usually the mother, has a critical role in the adoption of protective health care behaviours and parental feeding practices strongly influence childrenâs eating behaviours. This study will test if an early oral health promotion intervention through the use of brief motivational interviewing (MI) and anticipatory guidance (AG) approaches can reduce the incidence of early childhood dental decay and obesity. Methods: The study will be a randomised controlled study with parents and their new-born child/ren who are seen at 6â12 weeks of age by a child/community health nurse. Consenting parents will complete a questionnaire on oral health knowledge, behaviours, self-efficacy, oral health fatalism, parenting stress, prenatal and peri-natal health and socio-demographic factors at study commencement and at 12 and 36 months. Each childâparent pair will be allocated to an intervention or a standard care group, using a computer-generated random blocks. The standard group will be managed through the standard early oral health screening program; âlift the lipâ. The intervention group will be provided with tailored oral health counselling by oral health consultants trained in MI and AG. Participating children will be examined at 24, and 36 months for the occurrence of dental decay and have their height and weight recorded. Dietary information obtained from a food frequency chart will be used to determine food and dietary patterns. Data analysis will use intention to treat and per protocol analysis and will use tests of independent proportions and means. Multivariate statistical tests will also be used to take account of socio-economic and demographic factors in addition to parental knowledge, behaviour, self-efficacy, and parent/child stress. Discussion: The study will test the effects of an oral health promotion intervention to affect oral health and general health and have the potential to demonstrate the "common risk factor" approach to health promotion.Peter Arrow, Joseph Raheb and Margaret Mille
Investigation of NAA Foliar Application as a Fruitlet Thinner in Biennial Bearing Control of Unshiu Mandarin
Alternate bearing is a phenomenon in some varieties that after high yielding year (On year) which fruits are very small and non marketable, flowering decrease significantly and yield will decrease so much that harvest costs is more than grove income occasionally. This bearing cycle that is usually biennial, has high severity in Unshiu mandarin as an important commercial citrus variety of Iran specially in Mazandaran province and can cause severe losses for citrus producers and citrus industry. In this study for decrease of fruitlet density in "on years" and regulating of crop production in continuous years, an factorial experiment was conducted on 18 years old Unshiu trees grafted on Poncirus rootstock in RCBD with three replications. In this four year's study, which was conducted in Kotra Citrus Experiment Station situated in Tonekabon city, effects of tree spraying with NAA on fruitlet thinning was evaluated. Surveid factors were NAA concentrations (200, 300 and 400 mg/L) and time of tree spraying (30 and 50 days after full bloom) and obtained results were compared with check (unsprayed)trees. Results showed that tree spraying with 400 mg/L at 30 days after full bloom can cause significant differences with check trees and can decrease fruitlet density at high yielding years significantly and improve crop quality on off years
A Roadmap for Lean Maintenance of Mining Machinery
Future mines are automated and highly productive, applying fleet of expensive, complex and high-technology machinery. Considering the high production rate, and high level of safety, the maintenance operation has to satisfy many new requirements targeting the high level of resilience, minimum costs and energy consumption in whole mine production process. Maintenance of mining machinery as a service provider action consists of several internal processes, which are associated by uncertainties, unwanted side-effects, time and resource wastes. To reduce the waste of resources and efforts, the behavior of maintenance process must be predicted as accurately as possible to meet just-in-time (JIT) delivery with accepted level of quality. The lean thinking can efficiently reduce or eliminate the mentioned wastes and losses from the maintenance process of mine. This paper tries to focus on implementation issues, challenges and advantages of lean philosophy application in maintenance management of machinery in current and future advanced mines. For this purpose, the elements of lean maintenance are discussed and analyzed in details. Thus, the practical roadmap and its requirements for implementing the lean concept are presented and discussed.ISBN för vÀrdpublikation: 978-3-95886-223-4</p
The effect of starvation factor on the survival characteristics of Flexibacter chinensis
To survive in natural waters, bacteria must respond to a variety of environmental variables such as starvation. Flexibacter chinensis was grown and multiplied in the starvation medium and its viable count, total count and cell size were investigated under different temperatures. Also, the effects of different nutrient sources were investigated. The survival of the organism under starvation conditions was temperature dependent with the longest survival occurring at 4 degrees C and the shortest at above 30 degrees C. Amendments of starvation medium with glucose or urea (as carbon and nitrogen source respectively) delayed the reduction in cell size and increased the survival time of F. chinensis at a number of different temperatures
