Kesan latihan dalam perkhidmatan ke atas kualiti pengajaran dam pembelajran dalam bidang teknik dan vokasional
Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti keberkesanan latihan dalam
perkhidmatan yang dihadiri oleh guru-guru teknik dan vokasional dan sejauh mana hubungannya dengan keberkesanan pengajaran mereka dan pencapaian pelajar. Kajian ini merupakan kajian kuantitatif yang turut disokong dengan maklumat daripada data kualitatif. Maklumat dikumpulkan melalui dua set soal selidik, set A dan set B. Set A diberikan kepada 43 orang guru sekolah menengah teknik (SMT) di Kluang, Batu
Pahat, Muar, Segamat dan Pontian, Johor. Kajian ini mempertimbangkan empat mata pelajaran elektif utama bagi pelajar-pelajar aliran teknikal iaitu Pengajian Kejuruteraan Awam (PKA), Pengajian Kejuruteraan Mekanikal (PKM), Pengajian Kejuruteraan Elektrik (PKE) dan Lukisan Kejuruteraan (LK). Antara maklumat yang diperolehi adalah latar belakang responden, keberkesanan latihan yang diikuti dan juga keberkesanan pengajaran guru. Manakala soal selidik set B pula diedarkan kepada 1225 orang pelajar yang diajar oleh guru-guru di atas. Maklumat mengenai keberkesanan guru-guru teknik dan vokasional pada pandangan pelajar diperoleh melalui soal selidik ini. Kaedah temu bual telah dilakukan ke atas Penolong-penolong Kanan SMT untuk mendapatkan maklumat umum daripada pihak pengurusan yang boleh membantu kajian. Di samping itu, data markah peperiksaan pelajar juga diambil dan dianalisis. Semua data telah dianalisis menggunakan pakej SPSS versi 12. Antara analisis yang dilakukan adalah taburan kekerapan bagi data latar belakang responden,
nilai purata bagi data latihan dalam perkhidmatan dan guru berkesan, ujian-? untuk mengkaji perbezaan pencapaian pelajar yang diajar oleh guru yang mengikuti latihan dan tiada latihan dalam perkhidmatan dan pekali korelasi Pearson bagi mengkaji hubungan antara latihan dalam perkhidmatan dengan keberkesanan pengajaran guru dan pencapaian pelajar. Kajian membuktikan bahawa latihan dalam perkhidmatan yang
dihadiri oleh guru SMT mempunyai tahap keberkesanan yang tinggi. Latihan dalam perkhidmatan yang menitikberatkan kemahiran guru menjadi ciri utama yang dipersetujui oleh para guru di SMT. Namun begitu, ada juga aktiviti-aktiviti pembangunan staf bagi guru-guru teknikal yang dilaksanakan secara kurang berkesan dari segi tempoh yang tidak mencukupi dan perlaksanaan yang tidak berterusan. Kajian juga membuktikan bahawa guru-guru SMT mempunyai kecekapan profesion yang tinggi dari segi kemahiran dan ilmu pengetahuan tetapi tahap keberkesanan sederhana dari segi hubungan interpersonal dan kemahiran kaunseling. Comparative study of nanorods and nanoflowers TiO2 thin film for heterostructure application
This study introducesn-type nanorods and nanoflowers TiO2/p-type Cu2O thin film where the modification of the heterostructure between these two materials is believed to enhancethe conversion efficiencyin solar cell application.The nanorods and nanoflowers structure areexpected to improve the solar cell performance by providing better electron mobility and high specific surface area to deposit more Cu2O material for light radiation absorption.Besides, the structures were chosen due to their simple method of preparation and enhance efficiency in various applications.The n- type TiO2 thin filmswere produced using a hydrothermal method with some fabrication parameters studied during the preparation of TiO2 thin films such as Titanium Butoxide (TBOT) concentrations involving 0.07, 0.09, 0.11, 0.13 and 0.15 M. Another parameter is the duration of hydrothermal to obtain the optimum TiO2 which covered 7, 10, 13 and 16 hours of fabrication process. Next, the Cyclic Voltammogram (CV) measurement was carried out to identify the deposition parameter of p-Cu2O on TiO2/FTO substrate. Correspond to the CV measurement, -0.4V vs Ag/AgCl of potential deposition were used to develop p-Cu2O on the TiO2 layer. The construction of heterostructure was done through electrodeposition of p-Cu2O by using copper acetate based solution with pH value 12.5 at bath temperature of 60°C. The structural, morphological, optical, topological and electrical properties, were evaluated by using X-ray (XRD), Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Ultra Violet-Visible (UV-Vis), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Four-Point Probe, respectively. The TiO2 thin film exhibitsan optimum parameter at 10 hours duration of the hydrothermal process with the concentration of TBOT used was 0.9M. At the end of this study, the heterostructure thin film was successfully fabricated with a power conversion efficiency of 2x10-4%. Although low efficiency was obtained in this study, however, this finding might open a new door to the enhancement of TiO2 base for heterostructure application such as this heterojunction solar cell
Simulation of 1 x 2 OTDM router employing symmetric Mach-Zehnder switches
In high-speed all-optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) routers it is desirable to carry out data routing, switching, clock recovery and synchronisation in the optical domain in order to avoid the bottleneck due to optoelectronics conversion. The authors propose an optical switch based on all-optical symmetric Mach–Zehnder (SMZ) switching and investigate its characteristics. The proposed switch is to be used as a building block for a simple 1x2 OTDM router for asynchronous OTDM packet routing, where clock recovery, address recognition and payload routing are all carried out in the optical domain. Simulation and numerical results demonstrate that clock recovery, address recognition and payload routing are possible with small amounts of crosstalk. Also presented are simulation results for bit error rate (BER) performance for the 1x2 router. For a BER of 10e-9 the receiver sensitivity is -26 dB compared with baseline detection without a router of -38 dB. The proposed router displays great potential for use in ultrahigh- speed OTDM networks
Immobilization of phenol degrader pseudomonas sp in repeated batch culture using bioceramic and sponge as support materials
The performance of two types of inert support, namely bioceramic and sponge to immobilize a locally isolated phenol degrader Pseudomonas sp. in a packed column was investigated in repeated batch culture. Prior to this, our study indicated that immobilization had doubled the tolerance limit of the cells towards phenol from 1000 ppm (in the suspended culture), to 2000 ppm. For the same volume, the bioceramic managed to trap bacterial cells 1.8 times greater than the sponge did. As a result, it was able to remove 100% of 1000 ppm 600–ml phenol fed at a rate of 2.5 ml/min within 24 hours, and the phenol removal capacity was sustained in the next six consecutive batches. Cells entrapped in sponge however, managed to remove around 90% phenol in five batches. Despite lower performance, at large scales, the use of sponge for cell entrapment offers some merits such as lightness, and easily available at cheaper cost
An online collaborative learning system : designing for evaluation of students' learning
This paper will discuss work-in-progress in the development and evaluation of an online collaborative learning system. The context is a study of a course in an on-campus weekend part-time program attended by students who share similar professional engineering backgrounds but living far apart from each other with no opportunities to meet for discussions between weekends. The course requires students to tackle problems based on real life scenarios within small online groups after having attended lectures over the weekend. The research will look at ways in which group work can be conducted, and the contribution of the instructor. The approach to be taken will be an interpretive case study using questionnaire survey, text analysis and interviews. The main findings from the study will be reported, with focus on the strengths of, and difficulties in, using the research methods

Liberika coffee is coffee that is cultivated in the lowlands which only has a height of about two meters above sea level. Liberika coffee that lives in the lowlands of Rangsang Pesisir, Meranti Islands Regency, is one of the typical icons of Meranti, so as not to lose the taste of Liberika Meranti coffee. The author wants to design and build a coffee roasting machine to make it easier to determine Light, Medium, Dark roasts so that coffee quality is maintained and the price is more affordable for a coffee roasting machine. From the provisions in coffee roasting according to the criteria, it can be concluded that roasting using a coffee roasting machine with a rotary working principle of an initial temperature of 180℃ can produce a light roast in 3 roasting experiments, the average value of which is Light Roast at a temperature of 162.5 . Medium Roast 164.4 . Dark Roast 168.1 . Effectiveness of glass as a substitute for cement and fine aggregate in concrete mix
Construction field is a field that is wider than the other fields. The construction is becoming increasingly rapidly to meet the growing population. In the field of construction, concrete is an essential element to construct a building. Production of concrete leads to a reduction in natural resources as materials used in producing a concrete. For example of fine aggregate and cement. Furthermore, this problem gets attention from some parties in finding an alternative to reduce waste and maintained the natural resources to produce concrete using waste materials. Therefore, waste materials will be used in the concrete mix to reduce landfill and can reduce residual waste. Glass has high potential to be replaced as a cement-pozzolan [1]. Glass can be used in concrete as three kinds of elements include coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, and powder. Thus, the aim of this project is to replace glass as the replacement of cement and fine aggregate in concrete. In significant of this study, the issues regarding environmental can be reduced.
