Reasons for location of selected hotel enterprises in Opole
Atrakcyjna lokalizacja obiektu oraz odpowiednio dopasowany do niej program usługowy, decydują bowiem o poziomie rentowności, a w konsekwencji o perspektywach rozwojowych przedsiębiorstwa hotelowego. Both for the consumer (tourist) and pr
oducer (entrepreneur) of hotel services, a very important feature of the hotel
is its location. Attractive location and
service program properly matched to it, deci
de in fact on the level of profitability,
and consequently on the development prospects
of the hotel. One of the steps in the
procedure of choosing the most suitable lo
cation is to identify factors that determine the choice. In the most general way,
these factors can be divided into those
that relate to demand values and supply va
lues. It should be noted that apart from
these two groups of factors important cond
ition for determining the location of the
hotel can also be a local authorities acti
ons to stimulate the development of hotel
investments in the areas of reception. Th
e cognitive aim of this study was to determine the most important criteria for de
termining the location of hotels. To determine the most important factors for lo
cation of hotels two methods were used:
documentary method and the method of diagnostic
survey. At the first stage of the
research documentary method (indirect obs
ervation) was used, in which the statistical data from secondary
sources were obtained concerning hotels located in
Opole. In the second stage of rese
arch, based on a diagnostic survey method,
categorized, confidential, in-depth interv
iew was used. The research tool was an
interview questionnaire designed by the aut
hor for this study, consisting of five
open questions concerning the location fa
ctors and the metric. Selection of the
sample for testing was random in nature, as
five of the nine hotel enterprises were
selected whose owners agreed to participate
in the study. The increase in tourist
traffic and purchasing power of touris
ts and well developed infrastructure and
consequently, transport accessibility, high t
ourist attractiveness of Opole, incentives from local authorities and access to in
teresting properties in attractive prices
are the main factors determining the locati
on of the hotels studied. Majority of the
surveyed hotel owners were not considering
alternative locations of their facilities,
and the most important sources of knowle
dge used to making investment decisions
were: knowledge and experience of the ow
ner, market analysis and advisory services of consulting firms

Selected elements of tourist attractions in the district of Opole
wnioski o dofinansowanie projektów w ramach RPO WO 2007–2013. Materiał
badawczy w niniejszej pracy ma charakter wtórny i został pozyskany w wyniku
studiowania materiałów statystycznych oraz literatury i opracowań bibliograficznych.
Zastosowano metodę opisową, należącą do grupy metod badawczych o charakterze
indukcyjnym. Zakres przestrzenny badań obejmował 12 powiatów województwa
opolskiego, a czasowy – rok 2008. Przedmiotem analizy są wybrane
elementy atrakcyjności turystycznej badanego obszaru. W badaniu uwzględniono:
powierzchnię obszarów chronionych, liczbę obiektów muzealnych, długość dróg
publicznych, liczbę wypadków drogowych, liczbę obiektów noclegowych oraz
liczbę miejsc noclegowych. Do oceny atrakcyjności turystycznej badanych powiatów
powiaty: nyski, opolski i strzelecki, zaś najmniej: krapkowicki i kędzierzyńskokozielski.
Do powiatów o wysokiej atrakcyjności turystycznej zaliczyć można tylko
powiat nyski, do średniej zaś opolski.
metod analizy statystycznej. These days many communes treat tourism as a major factor for economic
activation and a simulator to economic growth. This is well visible in areas that
are attractive in terms of tourism as follows: tourist values, access by transportation
and status of tourist development. The objective of the paper was to assess
selected elements of tourist attractiveness of the districts in the province of Opole.
The research has an additional practical objective since the results will be used by
experts reviewing co-financing applications for projects under ROP OV
2007–2013. The research material used in this paper is secondary and has been
acquired as a result of studies of statistics as well as bibliographic literature and
studies. A descriptive method was applies which is one of induction research
methods. The research covered 12 districts of the province of Opole and the year
of 2008. The analysis covered selected elements of tourist attractiveness of the investigated
area. The research included: protected areas, number of musealia,
length of public roads, number of road accidents, number of hotels and number of
hotel beds. A development template method which is multidimensional comparative
analysis was applied to assess the tourist attractiveness of the studied district. Considering
the diagnostic features analysed in the paper, aggregated as development
measures, The following districts were found to be the most attractive in the province
of Opole: Nysa, Opole and Strzelce, the least attractive districts were: Krapkowice
and Kędzierzyn-Koźle. The district of Nysa can be classified as a highly
attractive district in terms of tourism while Opole has medium attractiveness. The
other districts of the province are little attractive in terms of tourism. Since the issues
studied in the paper provide much information and can be practically applied,
it seems necessary to continue in-depth studies of tourism attractiveness.
However, it is necessary to expend the set of the diagnostic features describing the
tourism attractiveness and to apply more sophisticated methods of statistical
analysis
