Relationship between health-related fitness and quality of life in elderly with type 2 diabetes: an exploratory study in the province of Seville
Under a Creative Commons license.[Objetivos]: Caracterizar a la población adulta-mayor afectada por diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (DM2) tratada en las consultas de atención primaria en cuanto al nivel de condición física relacionada con la salud (CFRS) y calidad de vida relacionada con la salud (CVRS), y por otro lado, corroborar si existe relación entre los diferentes test de CFRS y la CVRS.
[Método]: Se utilizó un diseño transversal observacional de casos y controles para comparar la CFRS y la CVRS (evaluada mediante el cuestionario EQ-5D-3L) entre 42 pacientes con DM2 y 54 pacientes sin DM2, y se estableció la relación existente entre la CFRS y la CVRS en los pacientes con DM2.
[Resultados]: En cuanto a la CFRS, los pacientes con DM2 obtuvieron mayores resultados en el test de dinamometría manual que sus pares sin dicha afección (p < 0,025). Los valores alcanzados en el test sit and reach fueron mayores en el grupo control que en el grupo DM2 (p < 0,001). No se detectaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas en cuanto a la CVRS entre ambos grupos. El coeficiente de correlación de Pearson desveló un nivel de correlación de moderado a alto entre los componentes de la CVRS y los test de fuerza, movilidad y equilibrio que componen la CFRS (p < 0,05).
[Conclusiones]: Este estudio muestra la asociación existente entre la CVRS evaluada con el EQ-5D-3L y los test de fuerza, movilidad y equilibrio dinámico en pacientes con DM2 tratados en atención primaria, cualidades vitales para el desarrollo de las actividades de la vida diaria de estos pacientes.[Objectives]: To characterize the type 2 diabetic (DM2) population treated in primary care consultations in regard of Health-Related Fitness (HRF) and Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL), and, on the other hand, to confirm if there is a relationship between HRF and HRQoL in DM2 patients. [Methods]: A cross-sectional, observational, case-control study was performed to compare the HRF and HRQoL between 42 DM2 patients and 54 patients without DM2 and the relationship between these two concepts was revealed. [Results]: In regard of HRF, statistically significant differences were found in the hand dynamometer test in favor of DM2 patients group (p = , 025) and statistically significant differences were achieved in favor of the reference group in sit and reach test (p = , 001). Pearson's correlation coefficient revealed a moderate to high level of correlation between the different dimensions and index of EQ-5D-3L and strength, mobility and balance tests (p < ,05). Efecto agudo hipotensivo de la combinación de ejercicios basados en caminar y de resistencia en mujeres mayores de 65 años no institucionalizadas
Under a Creative Commons license.[EN]: [Objective]: The aim of this study was to test the effects on blood pressure of a single bout of low-intensity resistance exercise combined with moderate aerobic walk-based exercise performed by active, controlled hypertensive elderly women.
[Method]: Forty-two participants were randomized in two types of sessions: exercise session (n = 21), that performed a single bout of combined exercise and control session (n = 21) that keep in rest during the bout. Pre-session, post-session and post-24-hour systolic, diastolic and mean pressure values were evaluated and compared between groups.
[Results]: Statistical significant reductions were achieved just after the performed bout (7% of reduction) and 24 hours after the bout (9% of reduction) on the diastolic blood pressure values in the exercise session group.
[Conclusions]: In this population, a single bout of combined session is feasible and safe and has a hypotensive effect on diastolic blood pressure in both immediately and after 24 hours post exercise.[ES]: [Objetivo]: Comprobar el efecto hipotensivo que una sola sesión de ejercicio combinado puede tener sobre la presión arterial de mujeres hipertensas controladas y mayores de 65 años. [Método]: Cuarenta y dos participantes fueron asignadas aleatoriamente a dos grupos de sesiones: sesión de entrenamiento (n = 21) que realizó una sola sesión de ejercicios combinados y sesión control (n = 21) que mantuvo reposo durante la misma. Antes, después y tras 24 horas desde la sesión, los valores de presión sistólica, diastólica y medios fueron evaluados y comparados entre grupos. [Resultados]: Se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre los grupos tras la realización de la sesión (7% de reducción) y tras 24 horas (9% de reducción) en los valores de presión arterial diastólica media del grupo experimental.
[Conclusiones]: En esta población una sola sesión de ejercicio combinado se propone como aplicable y segura y tiene un efecto hipotensivo en la presión diastólica tanto inmediatamente después como pasadas 24 horas de la intervención.The present study was supported by grants from the Government of Andalusia. Nitrogen is one of the main inputs used in forage production systems to increase productivity. However, in Cuba, the availability of fertiliser N is limited and therefore if applied, needs to be used with high efficiency. Locating hidden river courses via geo-technical investigation – application in the city of Granada, Spain
The diversion of natural river courses and subsequent filling by alluvial deposits or anthropic intervention has been hidden by urban development in the majority of the cities. The research we conducted involved monitoring the evolution of a river course and reconnaissance of the original morphology of the fluvial systems. Our research was applied to the section of the River Beiro that flows through the city of Granada, Spain. The research has been carried out using geo-technical methodology based on reconnaissance via dynamic penetration. This allowed us to determine the different degrees of consolidation and compaction in the areas corresponding with the former course of the river, which are now filled by alluvial deposits. In addition, we have backed up our findings with information provided by historical maps of the city of Granada. The results have identified an area wherein buildings are at risk, as evidenced by the detrimental effects registered in the buildings in this area

performed to identify studies on whole-body vibration therapy that were published up to the 15th of January 2015. Results. Eight
articles satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were analysed. According to the Dutch CBO guidelines, all selected trials
had a B level of evidence. The main outcomes that were measured were balance, fatigue, disability index, health-related quality of
life, and pain.Whole-body vibration appeared to improve the outcomes, especially balance and disability index. Conclusion.Wholebody
vibration could be an adequate treatment for fibromyalgia as a main therapy or added to a physical exercise programme as it
could improve balance, disability index, health-related quality of life, fatigue, and pain. However, this conclusion must be treated
with caution because the paucity of trials and the marked differences between existing trials in terms of protocol, intervention, and
measurement tools hampered the comparison of the trials
Adaptability and Genotype x Environment Interaction of Spring Wheat Cultivars in Chile using Regression Analysis, AMMI, and SRAG.

Univ Talca, Fac Ciencias Agr, Talca, ChileWheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genetic improvement objectives include obtaining cultivars capable of expressing their maximum potential yield and quality in diverse environments. This make necessary to know and define the environment in which a variety can express its maximum potential yield and quality. The objective of this study was to assess which method is the most efficient to study cultivars response in multiple environments. For this, we analyze the adaptability, stability, and genotype x environment (GxE) interaction effect, grain yield, sedimentation, and wet gluten content of 13 spring wheat cultivars sown in six environments in the central-south and southern zones of Chile during two seasons. The data were analyzed by regression analysis, additive main effects and multiplicative interaction (AMMI), and the sites regression (SREG) model. By this was thus established that SREG analysis is the most efficient for this type of study since, in addition to analyzing stability, adaptability, and effect (GxE), it allows identifying the best cultivar. In this case, `Pandora-INIA' stands out by exhibiting the best yield (7.38 t ha(-1)), high sedimentation (36.95 cm(3)), and wet gluten (41.54%) indices in all the environments, and this positions it as a variety having both high yield and quality
Las concepciones de los futuros maestros sobre los fenómenos que pueden ocurrir al poner dos sustancias en contacto
En el contexto de la formación inicial de maestros estudiamos las concepciones de los estudiantes de Magisterio sobre los fenómenos que pueden ocurrir al poner dos sustancias en contacto, antes y después de realizar diferentes experiencias en el laboratorio. Los resultados indican que las mezclas son previstas inicialmente por la mayoría de los grupos de trabajo, mientras que los cambios químicos sólo lo son después de realizar las experiencias. Si bien el cambio en las propuestas de los grupos es muy heterogéneo, la mayoría se caracteriza por incluir al final una mayor presencia de los indicadores observables de los cambios químicos (cambio de color y producción de un gas) También se detecta la aparición de la idea de al poner dos sustancias en contacto pueden cambiar de estado
Caveolin-1 Modulates Mechanotransduction Responses to Substrate Stiffness through Actin-Dependent Control of YAP
The transcriptional regulator YAP orchestrates many cellular functions, including tissue homeostasis, organ growth control, and tumorigenesis. Mechanical stimuli are a key input to YAP activity, but the mechanisms controlling this regulation remain largely uncharacterized. We show that CAV1 positively modulates the YAP mechanoresponse to substrate stiffness through actin-cytoskeleton-dependent and Hippo-kinase-independent mechanisms. RHO activity is necessary, but not sufficient, for CAV1-dependent mechanoregulation of YAP activity. Systematic quantitative interactomic studies and image-based small interfering RNA (siRNA) screens provide evidence that this actin-dependent regulation is determined by YAP interaction with the 14-3-3 protein YWHAH. Constitutive YAP activation rescued phenotypes associated with CAV1 loss, including defective extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. CAV1-mediated control of YAP activity was validated in vivo in a model of pancreatitis-driven acinar-to-ductal metaplasia. We propose that this CAV1-YAP mechanotransduction system controls a significant share of cell programs linked to these two pivotal regulators, with potentially broad physiological and pathological implications. Moreno-Vicente et al. report that CAV1, a key component of PM mechanosensing caveolae, mediates adaptation to ECM rigidity by modulating YAP activity through the control of actin dynamics and phosphorylation-dependent interaction of YAP with the 14-3-3-domain protein YWHAH. Cav1-dependent YAP regulation drives two pathophysiological processes: ECM remodeling and pancreatic ADM. © 2018 The Author
