Service-oriented modeling for e-business applications components
The emerging trends for e-business engineering revolve
around specialisation and cooperation. Successful
companies focus on their core competences, and rely on a
network of business partners for the support services
required to compose a comprehensive offer for their
customers. Modulariy is crucial for a flexible e-business
infrastructure, but related requirements seldom reflect on
the design and operational models of business
information systems.
Software components are widely used for the
implementation of e-business applications, with proved
benefits in terms of system development and maintenance.
We propose a service-oriented componentisation of ebusiness
systems as a way to close the gap with the
business models they support. Blurring the distinction
between external services and internal capabilities, we
propose a homogeneous model for the definition of ebusiness
applications components. After a brief
discussion on the foundational aspects of the approach,
we present the process-based technique we adopted for
component modelling. We then present an infrastructure
compliant with the model proposed that we built on top of
an EJB (Enterprise Java Beans) platform
Modelling electronic service systems using UML
This paper presents a profile for modelling systems of electronic
services using UML. Electronic services encapsulate business services,
an organisational unit focused on delivering benefit to a consumer,
to enhance communication, coordination and information management.
Our profile is based on a formal, workflow-oriented description of electronic
services that is abstracted from particular implementation technologies.
Resulting models provide the basis for a formal analysis to verify
behavioural properties of services. The models can also relate services to
management components, including workflow managers and Electronic
Service Management Systems (ESMSs), a novel concept drawn from experience
of HP Service Composer and DySCo (Dynamic Service Composer),
providing the starting point for integration and implementation
tasks. Their UML basis and platform-independent nature is consistent
with a Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) development strategy, appropriate
to the challenge of developing electronic service systems using
heterogeneous technology, and incorporating legacy systems
Effective potential at finite temperature in a constant hypermagnetic field: Ring diagrams in the Standard Model
We study the symmetry breaking phenomenon in the standard model during the
electroweak phase transition in the presence of a constant hypermagnetic field.
We compute the finite temperature effective potential up to the contribution of
ring diagrams in the weak field, high temperature limit and show that under

Serial mediation model predicting covid-19 vaccines acceptance in Portugal: The critical role of conspiracy theories in the wake of perceived quality of government communication and national stereotypes
Ever since the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, governments have aimed for herd immunity. Yet, many countries are far from achieving this goal mainly due to vaccine refusal. Previous research has pointed to conspiracy beliefs and the role of trust in governments as predictors of vaccine acceptance, yet a more comprehensive explanatory model is still missing. Using data from a convenience sample of 377 residents in Portugal (Mage = 33.56, SD = 13.67), the present study extends previous research by proposing a serial mediation model in the prediction of vaccine acceptance. The results confirm the critical role of conspiracy beliefs mediating the link between perceived quality of government communication and general vaccine acceptance (Model 1) as well as national stereotypes and acceptance of the Sinovac vaccine from China (Model 2). Feynman parametrization and Mellin summation at finite temperature
We show that the Mellin summation technique (MST) is a well defined and
useful tool to compute loop integrals at finite temperature in the
imaginary-time formulation of thermal field theory, especially when interested
in the infrared limit of such integrals. The method makes use of the Feynman
parametrization which has been claimed to have problems when the analytical
continuation from discrete to arbitrary complex values of the Matsubara
frequency is performed. We show that without the use of the MST, such problems
are not intrinsic to the Feynman parametrization but instead, they arise as a
result of (a) not implementing the periodicity brought about by the possible
values taken by the discrete Matsubara frequencies before the analytical
continuation is made and (b) to the changing of the original domain of the
Feynman parameter integration, which seemingly simplifies the expression but in
practice introduces a spurious endpoint singularity. Using the MST, there are
no problems related to the implementation of the periodicity but instead, care
has to be taken when the sum of denominators of the original amplitude
vanishes. We apply the method to the computation of loop integrals appearing
when the effects of external weak magnetic fields on the propagation of scalar

Expressões de microagressões dirigidas a mulheres no contexto do sistema de saúde: uma abordagem baseada em incidentes críticos
Purpose. Patients belonging to social minorities can be exposed to various forms of discrimination in the healthcare context. Previous research in this domain has overlooked expressions of microaggressions against women and the role of intersectional identities. This study aims to uncover the themes that underly the experience of microaggressions by diverse women in Portugal.
Methods. Using an interview model based on the Critical Incident Technique (Flanagan, 1954) 17 women were interviewed about their microaggression experiences in the healthcare setting. Among those with an intersectional identity, social minority membership was also based on ethnicity, LGB sexual orientation and functional diversity.
Results. A total of 17 microaggressive themes were retrieved, five of which were found to be related to microaggressions towards women in general and a total of seven were unique for women with specific intersectional identities. Another four themes reflected providers’ general attitudes towards patients without being related to gender or any intersectional minority group, and one theme described systemic microaggressions.
Conclusion. Some of the retrieved themes reflect microaggressions that women seem to experience in their everyday life but that are exacerbated by the health provider-patient power disparity. Synchrotron radiation study of interconfigurational 5d-4f luminescence of Pr3+ in KLuP2O7
The double phosphate KLuP2O7 doped with Pr 3+ ions was prepared by solid-state reaction. The material obtained was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction. The luminescence spectroscopy and the excited state dynamics of this material were studied upon excitation with VUV synchrotron radiation. The 5d-4f emission of Pr3+ upon both direct and band gap excitation was detected and assigned. The decay kinetics of the Pr3+ 5d-4f emission is characterized by a decay time of about 20 ns and is nearly temperature independent within the range 8-300 K. Both dynamics and energy transfer peculiarities revealed in the study suggested good potentials for application of KLuP2O7:Pr3+ as a fast scintillator material. © 2014 Verlag der Zeitschrift für Naturforschung, Tübingen
Effective potential at finite temperature in a constant magnetic field I: Ring diagrams in a scalar theory
We study symmetry restoration at finite temperature in the theory of a
charged scalar field interacting with a constant, external magnetic field. We
compute the finite temperature effective potential including the contribution
from ring diagrams. We show that in the weak field case, the presence of the
field produces a stronger first order phase transition and that the temperature
for the onset of the transition is lower, as compared to the case without

What kinds of microaggressions do women experience in the health care setting? Examining typologies, context and intersectional identities
Microaggressions are everyday verbal and non-verbal indignities, promoted intentionally or by well-intentioned people towards minority and disadvantaged individuals or groups. Microaggressions are often unconscious, socially normalized and naturalized. This qualitative study intended to examine and understand microaggressions lived by women with different intersectional identities (women of Color, immigrant women, straight women, LGBTQ+ women, functionally diverse women) in the Portuguese healthcare context. Semi-structured interviews were conducted using the Critical Incident Technique. Seventeen self-identified female feminists, activists and/or that were involved with NGOs and organizations actively committed to social causes participated. Content and thematic analysis were used in order to recognize the different microaggressive forms (microinsults, microinvalidations, microassaults) and manifestations (verbal, nonverbal/behavioral, environmental) committed in the healthcare context. The results are discussed in light of diversity training opportunities to raise awareness about subtle forms of discrimination among health care practitioners.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
SHIP MOTION SHORT TERM TIME DOMAIN SIMULATOR AND ITS APPLICATION TO COSTA CONCORDIA EMERGENCY MANOEUVRES JUST BEFORE THE JANUARY 2012 ACCIDENT
In this paper we will present a simple but reliable methodology for short term prediction of a cruise ship behaviour during manoeuvres. The methodology is quite general and could be applied to any kind of ship, because it does not require the prior knowledge of any structural or mechanical parameter of the ship. It is based only on the results of manoeuvrability data contained in the Manoeuvring Booklet, which in turn is filled out after sea trials of the ship performed before his delivery to the owner.
We developed this method to support the investigations around the Costa Concordia shipwreck, which happened near the shores of Italy in January 2012. It was then validated against the data recorded in the “black box” of the ship, from which we have been able to extract an entire week of voyage data before the shipwreck. The aim was investigating the possibility of avoiding the impact by performing an evasive manoeuvre (as ordered by the Captain some seconds before the impact, but allegedly misunderstood by the helmsman). The preliminary validation step showed a good matching between simulated and real values (course and heading of the ship) for a time interval of a few minutes.
The fact that the method requires only the results registered in the VDR (Voyage Data Recorder) during sea trial tests, makes it very useful for several applications. Among them, we can cite forensic investigation, the development of components for autopilots, the prediction of the effects of a given manoeuvre in shallow water, the “a posteriori” verification of the correctness of a given manoeuvre and the use in training simulators for ship pilots and masters
