Resident Participation in Outdoor Recreation: Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks
This study was conducted to better understand resident participation in outdoor recreation, specifically on public lands managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Respondents were asked about their participation in outdoor recreation, the importance of outdoor recreation to their quality of life, and their satisfaction with the investment of outdoor recreation facilities in their local area, among other topics. The report also includes demographic information as well as analysis conducted at the regional level
Montana Residents\u27 Attitudes Towards Tourism - 2023
A summary of Montana residents\u27 attitudes towards tourism from the 2023 season. Overall, results from this study show that Montana residents hold a generally positive attitude towards tourism in the state. Residents are aware of the economic benefit that tourism provides to their communities, and agree that the overall benefits outweigh the negative impacts. Perceptions of crowding at the statewide and community level appear to be easing from previous years
Recreate Responsibly: Montanans\u27 Confidence & Perceptions When Recreating Outdoors
This report is a summary of Montana residents and their self-reported level of confidence in the outdoors as well as their perception of others\u27 abilities while recreating. In 2021, there was a collaborative effort amongst tourism partners and public land agencies to reach out to the public with an initiative designed to provide resources to residents and non-residents on how to properly behave while recreating on Montana\u27s public lands. The Recreate Responsibly campaign aimed to provide guidelines for responsible action, incorporating such topics as aquatic invasive species, leave no trace principles, and physical distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic
Montana Residents: Attitudes Towards Tourism 2021
Since 1992, ITRR has asked residents questions specific to their attitudes towards tourism during the 4th quarter of each year as a way of tracking the current trends in perception towards the industry.
This study was conducted to continue tracking the perception of the tourism industry in Montana, as well as expanding the original survey to include topics such as the perceived economic benefit tourism provides to local communities, crowding at the local community level, and the impact COVID-19 has had on residents comfort level in welcoming visitors to their community in addition to their own willingness to travel outside the state
2022 Resident Visitation: Yellowstone National Park & Glacier National Park
This particular study was conducted to better understand resident visitation to the national parks in the state, and to also understand some of the obstacles that may have prevented residents from visiting the parks in 2022. This report includes information on monthly visitation to both Glacier and Yellowstone national parks, as well as the number of respondents who were deterred by the flooding in Yellowstone and the ticketed-entry system in Glacier
Montana Trends: Montanans\u27 Consumer Confidence & Expectations for Income, Travel, and Recreation
This report is a summary of Montana residents and their expectations related to spending, personal income, travel, and recreation over the next 12 months. ITRR conducted a similar study in 2019, aimed at understanding the current trends of consumer confidence in addition to residents\u27 expectations for travel plans over a one year time horizon. Since that time, much has changed, including the COVID-19 pandemic and increased demand for the MT tourism industry, rising gas prices, and inflation at historic levels. This report is a summary of Montana residents and their self-reported use of public lands in Montana over the past 12 months. This study was conducted to determine if residents were changing from historical locations and activities to new areas and types of recreation, and if so, why? Lastly, this report shows whether or not Montana residents feel public land agencies are sufficiently staffed in this area

Montana Workforce Study - 2022
This report is a summary of Montana residents and their participation within the workforce during the first quarter (Jan-March) of 2022.
This study was conducted to understand what part of the general resident population has worked in the service and hospitality industry since the beginning of 2020. Some topics include residents\u27 current work status and whether or not they left their job since the start of the pandemic (and why). The report also includes demographic information as well as analysis conducted on the six different travel regions within the state (Glacier, Southwest, Central, Yellowstone, Southeast, and Missouri River)
