    Get PDF
In conditions of high exchange rate volatility, entities conducting foreign trade transactions are subject to currency risk exposures, which may have a significant impact on financial performance and operating profitability. The research approach is oriented to identify the possibility to implement viable strategies for currency hedging, as an essential component of risk management operations for entities holding assets or liabilities denominated in a currency. Research methodology is based on the analysis of derivative transactions (futures contracts), carried on Monetary Financial and Commodities Exchange of Sibiu (Sibex), for the purpose of defining viable strategies to hedge currency risk. As an alternative to the domestic financial derivatives’ market, in order to overcome certain deficiencies relating to the liquidity of financial instruments, it was also examined the Forex market, to test the opportunity of receiving protection against currency risks.risk management, financial derivatives, volatility, hedging strategies

THE PLUM BRANDY FROM OAȘ LAND SYMBOL OF IDENTITY AND OF LOCAL SPECIFICITY

    Get PDF
The plum brandy from Oaș Land is an identitary, specific element, deeply rooted into geographical romanian realities. With its origins long lost in past time, the craft and art of obtaining the plum brandy are nowadays in danger to be lost against the background of socio-economic changes specific to globalization. In this context, the purpose of the present study is to highlight and briefly describe a traditional occupation (plum tree cultivation and obtaining plum brandy) that has endured and survived over time. The obtained results highlighted the main aspects regarding the culture of plums and the craft of obtaining traditional style plum brandy, in Gherța Mică Commune, Romania

Comparative FEM study about various posts used on endodontically treated teeth

Objectives. The aim of the present study was to analyze comparatively, through the finite element method (FEM), the biomechanical behavior of different types of devices used to increase the resistance of restorations on endodontically treated teeth, upon the experimental application of a force of 350N. Materials and methods. We studied comparatively three types of posts, respectively: fiberglass post, cast post from Cr-Co-Mo alloy and prefabricated titanium post. Three irretrievable extracted teeth for periodontal reasons were endodontically treated and then specifically prepared for cementation of this devices. The teeth were scanned at a radio-diagnostic center, and the obtained DICOM files were processed with MIMICS and 3-matic and then subjected to finite element analysis with ANSYS. Results. From the 48 simulations carried out for the case of all-ceramic crown coverage, the use of titanium post is associated with 25 situations in which maximum or minimum values appear, the use of cast post presents 12 situations in which maximum or minimum values are developed, the use of fiberglass posts is associated with 10 simulations where maximum or minimum values occur, and in one case the deformations are equal. Regarding the use of the zirconium oxide crown, the results are comparable. Conclusions. The presence of zirconium oxide crowns generally produces less valuable stresses and deformations at the level of the components. The stress and strain values are lowest when using fiberglass posts, followed closely by cast post and far behind by titanium post. In all simulated situations, the limit values of stresses and strains are mostly recorded at the tooth root, which is susceptible to fracture in case of parafunctional forces, followed by the three devices themselves and the covering crowns

FDI and Economic Growth, the Case of Romania

    Get PDF
AbstractThe importance and the effects of FDI attracted, rightly, the interest of all the states and resulted in a fierce competition for the foreign capital. The impact of FDI inflows on the host country can be traced to the macro and microeconomic level. The impact of FDI on host economies, is often positive, manifesting differently depending on the area and the region of the foreign investment. The impact of foreign investment on host countries depends largely on the quality and quantity of the inflows. In the Romanian economy, until 2000, the foreign direct investment level has been reduced. Apparently Romania attracted less FDI inflows than other emerging economies or EU economies. This paper aims to research if in the Romanian economy, there is a link between FDI inflows and GDP growth, more if the FDI have a positive impact on economic growth namely GDP growth

HEALING OF CHRONIC PERIAPICAL PERIODONTITIS IN THE ELDERLY: IS IT AGE REALATED?

    No full text
Endodontic retreatment in elderly patients for healing periapical periodontitis is more often required. Because of the increasing number of older adults in the population and the desideratum to maintain natural teeth for mastication and esthetics, endodontic treatment outcome in elderly people has to become predictable. Our clinical case highlights that even large, multiple periapical periodontitis can be healed in elderly people. Eliminating microbial infection by correct cleaning and shaping and preventing reinfection by proper root canal filling lead to a decrease in the size or even total healing of apical pathosis in relatively healthy elder patients, no matter the age

Laboratory diagnosis and follow-up of Romanian Gaucher disease patients

Background: Gaucher disease (GD) is caused by a recessively inherited deficiency of glucocerebrosidase which is encoded by the GBA gene in which nearly 450 mutations have been described. However, only a few genotype- phenotype correlations have been clearly established. The aim of this study was to investigate molecular features of GD in Romanian patients and to evaluate their impact on treatment response. Material and methods: 69 patients, diagnosed between 1997 and 2014 at our national referral laboratory, were included in this study. Frequent point mutations (N370S, L444P, 84GG, R463C) were detected by amplification and restriction enzyme digestion. Recombinant alleles (recTL, recNciI, recA456P) were screened by DNA sequencing. Plasma chitotriosidase served as a biomarker of disease severity throughout the follow-up period. Results: 66 patients had the non-neuronopathic (type 1) form of GD and 3 had the chronic neuronopathic (type 3) phenotype. We identified 79% of the mutant alleles, among which the most frequent mutations were N370S (54%) and L444P (18%). We found a statistically significant (p<0.001) and moderate to good correlation between the total therapeutic dose and the residual chitotriosidase activity (R = 0.621). After two years of treatment, we noticed statistically significant variations in chitotriosidase activity corresponding to the most frequent genotypes (N370S/ unknown allele, N370S/L444P, N370S/N370S and N370S/R463Q). Conclusions: Allele distribution displayed specific features in Romanian GD patients, such as the high prevalence of the N370S allele. Chitotriosidase activity measurement allowed the investigation of genotype influence on treatment outcome

HIGH RISK IN ROOT CANAL NEGOCIATION IN ELDERLY PATIENTS: CLINICAL CASE SERIES

    No full text
Several clinical cases outline the difficulties of root canal treatment, due to the morphological changes of the endodontic space in elderly patients. The changes in the shape of pulp chamber and root canal make the treatment more difficult. It is also shown that the pulp chamber diminishes, due to reparative dentin. Calcification of the pulp space makes more difficult the access to the cavity. The obliterated canals lead to a challenging negotiation of the root canals. To avoid errors in the appreciation of the general health condition of the patient, the specialists should have an accurate preoperative radiograph or cone beam computing tomography (CBCT), use magnification (dental operative microscope), safe-ended burs, consider carefully any morphological changes, and apply the most proper techniques

Novel Hydrogel-Advanced Modified Clay Nanocomposites as Possible Vehicles for Drug Delivery and Controlled Release

    No full text
Present study refers to the synthesis of new advanced materials based on poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) with previously reported own advanced modified clays by edge covalent bonding. This will create the premises to obtain nanocomposite hydrogels with combined hydrophilic-hydrophobic behavior absolutely necessary for co-delivery of polar/nonpolar substances. For the synthesis, N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide was used as cross-linker and ammonium persulphate as initiator. As a consequence of the inclusion of clay into the polymer matrix and the intercalation of PMAA between the layers as well as the presence of hydrophobic interactions occurred between partners, the final hydrogel nanocomposites possessed greater swelling degrees, slower de-swelling process and enhanced mechanical properties depending on the clay type in comparison with pure hydrogel. In vitro MTS ([3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium, inner salt]) colorimetric assay showed that direct exposure with PMMA-clay-based constructs did not affect cell viability and proliferation in time (24 and 48 h) on either normal or adenocarcinoma cell lines
