Drift of domain walls in a harmonic magnetic field
It is shown that a two-step form of the dynamic magnetization curve (and the hysteresis loop) established for a multiaxial ferrite-garnet wafer with a low quality factor (Q < 1) and considerable anisotropy in the plane (K p /K u = 14) in the frequency range of 25-1000 Hz is explained by the reconstruction of the dynamic domain structure, particularly by the established features of the drift of domain boundaries in the harmonic magnetic field. © 2013 Allerton Press, Inc
Unidirectional motion of magnetic domain walls: The experiment and numerical simulation
The results of study of unidirectional motion of topologically different domain structures under the influence of periodic bipolar and unipolar magnetic field pulses applied perpendicular to the sample plane of (111) iron garnet single crystal plate are presented. The response of the domain structure to the field pulses was studied by direct observations utilizing the stroboscopic technique. Experimentally obtained dependences of the speed of unidirectional motion of stripe domains on the parameters of external bipolar pulsed magnetic field are compared with the results of numerical simulations. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation: 3.6121.2017The work was performed within the framework of the basic part of the state assignment of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation (project 3.6121.2017)
Experimental and Theoretical Study of Stripe Magnetic Domain Structure Drift in Iron Garnet Crystals
The results of experimental and theoretical study of magnetic domain structure drift in low frequency oscillating magnetic field oriented perpendicular to the sample plate are presented. Experimental study was performed on uniaxial iron garnet (TbErGd)₃(FeAl)₅O₁₂ (111) plate with rhombic anisotropy for the case when orientation of domain walls of stripe domains is preserved. Dynamic domain structure was revealed by means of magnetooptic Faraday effect and registered by high speed digital camera at the speed equal to 1200 fps. Theoretical model based on the motion equations for coupled harmonic oscillators that takes into account attenuation and field inhomogeneity along the plate is proposed
Magnetization Dynamics of Iron Garnet Crystals in Oscillating Magnetic Field
AbstractUsing direct observations via stroboscopic technique it is shown that in iron garnet crystals placed in an alternating magnetic field aligned perpendicular to the plane of the sample the dynamic magnetization reversal is carried out by the oscillations of the domain walls with their subsequent drift. For the first time the dependences of the maximum speed of domain walls motion during oscillations Vosc and of the domain walls oscillations amplitude Aosc in external oscillating magnetic field on amplitude of the external magnetic field H0 are obtained. It is shown that these dependences can be approximated by linear functions. Numerical simulations of domain walls motion in an alternating magnetic field were performed with parameters of the real sample. It is established that the experimental dependences Vosc(H0) and Aosc(H0) at different frequencies are in a qualitative agreement with the results of numerical simulations
Probing the internal rotation of pre-white dwarf stars with asteroseismology: the case of PG 122+200
We put asteroseismological constraints on the internal rotation profile of
the GW Vir (PG1159-type) star PG 0122+200. To this end we employ a
state-of-the-art asteroseismological model for this star and we assess the
expected frequency splittings induced by rotation adopting a forward approach
in which we compare the theoretical frequency separations with the observed
ones assuming different types of plausible internal rotation profiles. We also
employ two asteroseismological inversion methods for the inversion of the
rotation profile of PG 0122+200. We find evidence for differential rotation in
this star. We demonstrate that the frequency splittings of the rotational
multiplets exhibited by PG 0122+200 are compatible with a rotation profile in
which the central regions are spinning about 2.4 times faster than the stellar
surface.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables. To be published in MNRA
An asteroseismic study of the beta Cephei star 12 Lacertae: multisite spectroscopic observations, mode identification and seismic modelling
We present the results of a spectroscopic multisite campaign for the beta
Cephei star 12 (DD) Lacertae. Our study is based on more than thousand
high-resolution high S/N spectra gathered with 8 different telescopes in a time
span of 11 months. In addition we make use of numerous archival spectroscopic
measurements. We confirm 10 independent frequencies recently discovered from
photometry, as well as harmonics and combination frequencies. In particular,
the SPB-like g-mode with frequency 0.3428 1/d reported before is detected in
our spectroscopy. We identify the four main modes as (l1,m1) = (1, 1), (l2,m2)
= (0, 0), (l3,m3) = (1, 0) and (l4,m4) = (2, 1) for f1 = 5.178964 1/d, f2 =
5.334224 1/d, f3 = 5.066316 1/d and f4 = 5.490133 1/d, respectively. Our
seismic modelling shows that f2 is likely the radial first overtone and that
the core overshooting parameter alpha_ov is lower than 0.4 local pressure scale
heights.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures, accepted in MNRA
UVSat: a concept of an ultraviolet/optical photometric satellite
Time-series photometry from space in the ultraviolet can be presently done
with only a few platforms, none of which is able to provide wide-field
long-term high-cadence photometry. We present a concept of UVSat, a twin space
telescope which will be capable to perform this kind of photometry, filling an
observational niche. The satellite will host two telescopes, one for
observations in the ultraviolet, the other for observations in the optical
band. We also briefly show what science can be done with UVSat.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in the Proceedings of

Asteroseismology of the Beta Cephei star 12 (DD) Lacertae: photometric observations, pulsational frequency analysis and mode identification
We report a multisite photometric campaign for the Beta Cephei star 12
Lacertae. 750 hours of high-quality differential photoelectric Stromgren,
Johnson and Geneva time-series photometry were obtained with 9 telescopes
during 190 nights. Our frequency analysis results in the detection of 23
sinusoidal signals in the light curves. Eleven of those correspond to
independent pulsation modes, and the remainder are combination frequencies. We
find some slow aperiodic variability such as that seemingly present in several
Beta Cephei stars. We perform mode identification from our colour photometry,
derive the spherical degree l for the five strongest modes unambiguously and
provide constraints on l for the weaker modes. We find a mixture of modes of 0
<= l <= 4. In particular, we prove that the previously suspected rotationally
split triplet within the modes of 12 Lac consists of modes of different l;
their equal frequency splitting must thus be accidental.
One of the periodic signals we detected in the light curves is argued to be a
linearly stable mode excited to visible amplitude by nonlinear mode coupling
via a 2:1 resonance. We also find a low-frequency signal in the light
variations whose physical nature is unclear; it could be a parent or daughter
mode resonantly coupled. The remaining combination frequencies are consistent
with simple light-curve distortions.
The range of excited pulsation frequencies of 12 Lac may be sufficiently
large that it cannot be reproduced by standard models. We suspect that the star
has a larger metal abundance in the pulsational driving zone, a hypothesis also
capable of explaining the presence of Beta Cephei stars in the LMC.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, MNRAS, in pres
Detection of gravity modes in the massive binary V380 Cyg from Kepler spacebased photometry and high-resolution spectroscopy
We report the discovery of low-amplitude gravity-mode oscillations in the
massive binary star V380 Cyg, from 180 d of Kepler custom-aperture space
photometry and 5 months of high-resolution high signal-to-noise spectroscopy.
The new data are of unprecedented quality and allowed to improve the orbital
and fundamental parameters for this binary. The orbital solution was subtracted
from the photometric data and led to the detection of periodic intrinsic
variability with frequencies of which some are multiples of the orbital
frequency and others are not. Spectral disentangling allowed the detection of
line-profile variability in the primary. With our discovery of intrinsic
variability interpreted as gravity mode oscillations, V380 Cyg becomes an
important laboratory for future seismic tuning of the near-core physics in
massive B-type stars.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables. Accepted for publication in MNRAS
