Equations of State in the Brans-Dicke cosmology
We investigate the Brans-Dicke (BD) theory with the potential as cosmological
model to explain the present accelerating universe. In this work, we consider
the BD field as a perfect fluid with the energy density and pressure in the
Jordan frame. Introducing the power-law potential and the interaction with the
cold dark matter, we obtain the phantom divide which is confirmed by the native
and effective equation of state. Also we can describe the metric gravity
with an appropriate potential, which shows a future crossing of phantom divide
in viable gravity models when employing the native and effective

The alpha-particle based on modern nuclear forces
The Faddeev-Yakubovsky equations for the alpha-particle are solved. Accurate
results are obtained for several modern NN interaction models, which include
charge-symmetry breaking effects in the NN force, nucleon mass dependences as
well as the Coulomb interaction. These models are augmented by three-nucleon
forces of different types and adjusted to the 3N binding energy. Our results
are close to the experimental binding energy with a slight overbinding. Thus
there is only little room left for the contribution of possible 4N interactions
to the alpha-particle binding energy. We also discuss model dependences of the

Spin-dependent cross sections from the three-body photodisintegration of He 3 at incident energies of 12.8 and 14.7 MeV
The first measurement of the three-body photodisintegration of polarized 3He using a circularly polarized photon beam has been performed at incident energies of 12.8 and 14.7 MeV. This measurement was carried out at the high-intensity γ-ray source located at Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory. A high-pressure 3He target, polarized via spin exchange optical pumping with alkali metals, was used in the experiment. The spin-dependent double- and single-differential cross sections from 3He(γ,n)pp for laboratory angles varying from 30° to 165° are presented and compared with state-of-the-art three-body calculations. The data reveal the importance of including the Coulomb interaction between protons in the three-body calculations
Screening of cosmological constant for De Sitter Universe in non-local gravity, phantom-divide crossing and finite-time future singularities
We investigate de Sitter solutions in non-local gravity as well as in
non-local gravity with Lagrange constraint multiplier. We examine a condition
to avoid a ghost and discuss a screening scenario for a cosmological constant
in de Sitter solutions. Furthermore, we explicitly demonstrate that three types
of the finite-time future singularities can occur in non-local gravity and
explore their properties. In addition, we evaluate the effective equation of
state for the universe and show that the late-time accelerating universe may be
effectively the quintessence, cosmological constant or phantom-like phases. In
particular, it is found that there is a case in which a crossing of the phantom
divide from the non-phantom (quintessence) phase to the phantom one can be
realized when a finite-time future singularity occurs. Moreover, it is
demonstrated that the addition of an term can cure the finite-time future
singularities in non-local gravity. It is also suggested that in the framework
of non-local gravity, adding an term leads to possible unification of the
early-time inflation with the late-time cosmic acceleration.Comment: 42 pages, no figure, version accepted for publication in General

Functional mechanisms underlying pleiotropic risk alleles at the 19p13.1 breast-ovarian cancer susceptibility locus
A locus at 19p13 is associated with breast cancer (BC) and ovarian cancer (OC) risk. Here we analyse 438 SNPs in this region in 46,451 BC and 15,438 OC cases, 15,252 BRCA1 mutation carriers and 73,444 controls and identify 13 candidate causal SNPs associated with serous OC (P=9.2 Ă 10-20), ER-negative BC (P=1.1 Ă 10-13), BRCA1-associated BC (P=7.7 Ă 10-16) and triple negative BC (P-diff=2 Ă 10-5). Genotype-gene expression associations are identified for candidate target genes ANKLE1 (P=2 Ă 10-3) and ABHD8 (P<2 Ă 10-3). Chromosome conformation capture identifies interactions between four candidate SNPs and ABHD8, and luciferase assays indicate six risk alleles increased transactivation of the ADHD8 promoter. Targeted deletion of a region containing risk SNP rs56069439 in a putative enhancer induces ANKLE1 downregulation; and mRNA stability assays indicate functional effects for an ANKLE1 3âČ-UTR SNP. Altogether, these data suggest that multiple SNPs at 19p13 regulate ABHD8 and perhaps ANKLE1 expression, and indicate common mechanisms underlying breast and ovarian cancer risk

Consensus of Official Position of IOF/ISCD FRAX Initiatives in Asia-Pacific Region.
The fracture risk assessment tool (FRAX(Âź)) has been developed for the identification of individuals with high risk of fracture in whom treatment to prevent fractures would be appropriate. FRAX models are not yet available for all countries or ethnicities, but surrogate models can be used within regions with similar fracture risk. The International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) and International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) are nonprofit multidisciplinary international professional organizations. Their visions are to advance the awareness, education, prevention, and treatment of osteoporosis. In November 2010, the IOF/ISCD FRAX initiative was held in Bucharest, bringing together international experts to review and create evidence-based official positions guiding clinicians for the practical use of FRAX. A consensus meeting of the Asia-Pacific (AP) Panel of the ISCD recently reviewed the most current Official Positions of the Joint Official Positions of ISCD and IOF on FRAX in view of the different population characteristics and health standards in the AP regions. The reviewed position statements included not only the key spectrum of positions but also unique concerns in AP regions
