    Conformal Moduli and b-c Pictures for NSR Strings

    We explore the geometry of the superconformal moduli of the NSR superstring theory in order to construct the consistent sigma-model for the NSR strings, free of picture-changing ambiguities. The sigma-model generating functional is constructed by the integration over the bosonic and anticommuting moduli, corresponding to insertions of the vertex operators in scattering amplitudes. In particular, the integration over the bosonic moduli results in the appearance of picture-changing operators for the b-c system. Important example of the b-c pictures involves the unintegrated and integrated forms of the vertex operators. We derive the BRST-invariant expressions for the b-c picture-changing operators for open and closed strings and study some of their properties. We also show that the superconformal moduli spaces of the NSR superstring theory contain the global singularities, leading to the appearance of non-perturbative solitonic D-brane creation operators.Comment: 22 pages, references adde

    Screening of a hypercritical charge in graphene

    Screening of a large external charge in graphene is studied. The charge is assumed to be displaced away or smeared over a finite region of the graphene plane. The initial decay of the screened potential with distance is shown to follow the 3/2 power.     We consider intersecting black branes with strong gravitational waves propagating along their worldvolume in the context of supergravity theories. Both near-horizon and space-filling gravitational wave modes are included in our ansatz. The equations of motion (originally, partial differential equations) are shown to reduce to ordinary differential equations, which include a Toda-like system.     Self-replication and splitting of domain patterns in reaction-diffusion systems with fast inhibitor

    An asymptotic equation of motion for the pattern interface in the domain-forming reaction-diffusion systems is derived. The free boundary problem is reduced to the universal equation of non-local contour dynamics in two dimensions in the parameter region where a pattern is not far from the points of the transverse instabilities of its walls. The contour dynamics is studied numerically for the reaction-diffusion system of the FitzHugh-Nagumo type. It is shown that in the asymptotic limit the transverse instability of the localized domains leads to their splitting and formation of the multidomain pattern rather than fingering and formation of the labyrinthine pattern.Comment: 9 pages (ReVTeX), 5 figures (postscript).     Complete integrability of derivative nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger-type equations

    We study matrix generalizations of derivative nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger-type equations, which were shown by Olver and Sokolov to possess a higher symmetry.     Scanning Electron Microscopic Studies of the Oral Mucosa and Its Microvasculature: A Review of the Palatine Mucosa and Its Microvascular Architecture in Mammals

    The present paper deals with the microvascular architecture of the palatine mucosa in primates, camivorae, and rodentia utilizing microvascular corrosion castings and epithelium-separated specimens. The submucous vascular network is under-developed since the bard palatine mucosa was designated the mucoperiosteum, except some areas. The palatine venous plexus appears to show regional differences with animal species differences. The well-developed plexus is observed to be two-layered and may contribute to the process of regurgitation of rough food and assist in mastication with the palatine plicae. Formation and patterns of the arterial network in the lamina propria are in a close relation with connective tissue elements. The subepithelial capillary network constitutes an advanced base for the ascending crus of the capillary loop and its pattern is affected by the properties of the connective tissue papillae and the diverging fashion of the capillary loops. Capillary loops of the transverse palatine plica are arranged parallel to the sagittal axis and at right angles to the top line of each plica. Features of the capillary loops are characteristics in the top, the anterior and posterior slopes of the plica, respectively. High connective tissue papillae in both the anterior slope and plical top may be of a resistant form for mollifying exhaustion, affected by the periodicity and mastication function. Although it is difficult to elucidate the lamination of the palatine mucosa in histological slides, it was resolved by examination on its vascular architectures

    Preserving the gauge invariance of meson production currents in the presence of explicit final-state interactions

    A comprehensive formalism is developed to preserve the gauge invariance of currents describing the photo- or electroproduction of mesons off the nucleon when the final-state interactions of mesons and nucleons is taken into account explicitly. Replacing exchange currents by auxiliary currents, it is found that all contributions due to explicit final-state interactions are purely transverse and do not contain a Kroll-Ruderman-type contact current.     Lyman Break Galaxies at z∼5z\sim5: Rest-Frame UV Spectra

    We report initial results for spectroscopic observations of candidates of Lyman Break Galaxies (LBGs) at z∼5z\sim5 in a region centered on the Hubble Deep Field-North by using the Faint Object Camera and Spectrograph attached to the Subaru Telescope. Eight objects with IC≤25.0I_C\leq25.0 mag, including one AGN, are confirmed to be at 4.5<z<5.24.5<z<5.2. The rest-frame UV spectra of seven LBGs commonly show no or weak Lyalpha emission line (rest-frame equivalent width of 0-10\AA) and relatively strong low-ionization interstellar metal absorption lines of SiII λ\lambda1260, OI+SiII λ\lambda1303, and CII λ\lambda1334 (mean rest-frame equivalent widths of them are −1.2∼−5.1-1.2 \sim -5.1 \AA). These properties are significantly different from those of the mean rest-frame UV spectrum of LBGs at z∼3z\sim3, but are quite similar to those of subgroups of LBGs at z∼3z\sim3 with no or weak Lyalpha emission. The weakness of Lyalpha emission and strong low-ionization interstellar metal absorption lines may indicate that these LBGs at z∼5z\sim5 are chemically evolved to some degree and have a dusty environment. Since the fraction of such LBGs at z∼5z\sim5 in our sample is larger than that at z∼3z\sim3, we may witness some sign of evolution of LBGs from z∼5z\sim5 to z∼3z\sim3, though the present sample size is very small. It is also possible, however, that the brighter LBGs tend to show no or weak Lyalpha emission, because our spectroscopic sample is bright (brighter than L∗L^{\ast}) among LBGs at z∼5z\sim5.
