Reflections of Heritage in the Traditional Costumery of The Dusun Tindal of Sabah
The design and accessories of the Dusun Tindal traditional costume reveal an intricate relationship between the materials used and the community’s view of life. The practice of showcasing their traditional costume during festivals and ceremonies reflect the Dusun Tindal community’s commitment towards preserving their culture and heritage. This study explores the culture related to the designs of Dusun Tindal traditional costumes with specific focus on the community residing at the id Nuluhon (hill land area), a village located close to the foothill of Mount Kinabalu. Traditional Kinulung Craft Weaving of the Dusun Tindal of Kota Belud, Sabah
Arts and cultural heritage is a potent reflection of the identity of a community. The art of traditional handicraft weaving in any society is dependent on the resources available in his environment and the needs of the particular community. The Dusun Tindal of Kota Belud is rich in weaving craft traditions with kinulung as one of its distinctive products. Kinulung is unique with its own specific purpose and simple design, and has been able to withstand modernisation and change. However, the factors of adaptation, environmental change, and modern technological transformation could pose as threats to the traditional and heritage elements in the production of the kinulung. This study is important as a platform for the promotion of continuity and resilience of the Dusun Tindal heritage. Kinulung documentaton will clarify various aspects of the design and purpose elements of this traditional craft. The study focuses on the design and meaning presented in the kinulung weaving tradition as an object of culture in the community. Material for this study was derived from field work through observations, interviews and notations. The findings of the study indicate that the design and motif of the kinulung reflect the cultural values and local knowledge of the Dusun Tindal
The Uniqueness of Sayau Kapa Momorun Dance in Dusun Tindal Ethnic Kota Belud Sabah
The Dusun Tindal ethnic group derives its name from the words ‘Dusun’ which refers to race or origin and ‘Tindal’ meaning land or hills. The Dusun Tindal is often associated with a refined ability to produce high- quality handicraft items such as the traditional kuron pottery. Kuron is an integral part of the Sayau Kapa Momorun, a well- known traditional dance performance in Kampung Malangkap Kapa, Kota Belud. The dance is unique due to its significance in the production of kuron. The Dusun Tindal community has turned the process of kuron- making into a traditional dance complete with its own set of movements, music and costumes. This study is an exploration of the uniqueness of the Sayau Kapa Momorun as a dance representation of the traditional kuron pottery of the Dusun Tindal in Kota Belud. Pembudayaan reka bentuk busana tradisional masyarakat Dusun Tindal di Sabah
Budaya menggambarkan cara hidup yang dimiliki dan diamalkan oleh sesebuah masyarakat. Pakaian tradisional merupakan salah satu warisan tamadun dan peradaban yang diturunkan sejak zaman berzaman. Warisan budaya reka bentuk dan aksesori dalam busana masyarakat Dusun Tindal memaparkan hubungan kosmologi, bahan daripada alam semula jadi dengan pemikiran mereka. Amalan pembudayaan busana tradisi semasa perayaan dan upacara adat menggambarkan masyarakat Dusun Tindal yang masih berpegang kepada budaya yang diwarisi. Masyarakat Dusun Tindal mendominasi daerah Kota Belud sebagai penempatan utamanya. Kajian ini memfokuskan kepada pembudayaan dan reka bentuk busana tradisional penduduk Dusun Tindal yang tinggal di kawasan id Nuluhon (berbukit), iaitu perkampungan yang berhampiran dengan lereng Gunung Kinabalu. Kajian ini menjurus kepada busana tradisional Dusun Tindal yang dipanggil sinuranga (pakaian lelaki) dan rinagan (pakaian wanita). Kajian ini ditulis melalui kaedah kerja lapangan dengan mengumpul maklumat dan menganalisis data tentang struktur reka bentuk busana yang dikaitkan dengan citra pembudayaan masyarakat Dusun Tindal
