    Les auteurs présentent les points de vue qu’adoptent des spécialistes du milieu collégial et des étudiants ayant des troubles d’apprentissage sur l’efficacité des technologies de l’information et de la communication. Cet article met en lumière les résultats de la seconde phase d’une étude menée par le Réseau de Recherche Adaptech, avec la collaboration du Collège Dawson, du Cégep André-Laurendeau et du Collège Montmorency qui porte sur cette question. Les étudiants ayant des TA semblent moins connaitre les TIC que les bons lecteurs, alors que les très faibles lecteurs se situent entre ces deux groupes. Le travail de sensibilisation à l’utilisation des TIC doit être entrepris ou poursuivi

    Membrane-Modified Metal Triazole Complexes for the Electrocatalytic Reduction of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide

    In this manuscript, an electrochemical architecture is designed that controls the kinetics of proton transfer to metal triazole complexes for electrocatalytic O2 and CO2 reduction. Self-assembled monolayers of these catalysts are attached to a glassy carbon electrode and covered with a lipid monolayer containing proton carriers, which acts as a proton-permeable membrane. The O2 reduction voltammograms on carbon are similar to those obtained on membrane-modified Au electrodes, which through the control of proton transfer rates, can be used to improve the selectivity of O2 reduction. The improved voltage stability of the carbon platforms allows for the investigation of a CO2 reduction catalyst inside a membrane. By controlling proton transfer kinetics across the lipid membrane, it is found that the relative rates of H2, CO, and HCOOH production can be modulated. It is envisioned that the use of these membrane-modified carbon electrodes will aid in understanding catalytic reactions involving the transfer of multiple protons and electrons

    Retinal vasproliferative tumor in a case of X-linked retinoschisis detachment

    © 2018 Purpose: To describe the first published case of X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS) detachment with retinal vasoproliferative tumor (RVPT) and provide a literature review of the subject. Observations: The authors describe a case of a 17 year old male with X-linked retinoschisis who presented with a retinal detachment and a retinal vasoproliferative tumor. The patient was treated with pars plana vitrectomy, endolaser, subtenon\u27s kenalog and anti-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) intravitreal injections. He regained 20/60 vision with a flat macula and had significant resolution of the associated vasoproliferative leakage seen on fluorescein angiography. Conclusions and importance: This case adds XLRS to the conditions associated with RVPT and gives support for treatment with laser photocoagulation and anti-VEGF therapy with bevacizumab to control the exudative process

    Information and Communication Technology for French and English Speaking Postsecondary Students with Disabilities: What are Their Needs and How Well are These Being Met?

    This study evaluates how well information and communication technology (ICT) related needs of students with various disabilities are met at school, at home, and in e-learning contexts. Results are based on the POSITIVES Scale, a 26 item ob-jective measure of how well the ICT related needs of these students are met. The sample consists of 131 students from French and 1202 students from English lan-guage universities and junior/community colleges with various disabilities from across Canada. Although the results generally show more favourable than unfa-vourable scores, these are affected by the nature of students’ disabilities and by context: home or school. Generally, both groups had similar views about cir-cumstances where their needs were poorly met and about what worked well. The findings suggest that linguistic and policy considerations have an impact on how well the ICT related needs of students with different disabilities are met in differ-ent parts of Canada

    Persistence of Supplemented Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis EVC001 in Breastfed Infants.

    Attempts to alter intestinal dysbiosis via administration of probiotics have consistently shown that colonization with the administered microbes is transient. This study sought to determine whether provision of an initial course of Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis (B. infantis) would lead to persistent colonization of the probiotic organism in breastfed infants. Mothers intending to breastfeed were recruited and provided with lactation support. One group of mothers fed B. infantis EVC001 to their infants from day 7 to day 28 of life (n = 34), and the second group did not administer any probiotic (n = 32). Fecal samples were collected during the first 60 postnatal days in both groups. Fecal samples were assessed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, quantitative PCR, mass spectrometry, and endotoxin measurement. B. infantis-fed infants had significantly higher populations of fecal Bifidobacteriaceae, in particular B. infantis, while EVC001 was fed, and this difference persisted more than 30 days after EVC001 supplementation ceased. Fecal milk oligosaccharides were significantly lower in B. infantis EVC001-fed infants, demonstrating higher consumption of human milk oligosaccharides by B. infantis EVC001. Concentrations of acetate and lactate were significantly higher and fecal pH was significantly lower in infants fed EVC001, demonstrating alterations in intestinal fermentation. Infants colonized by Bifidobacteriaceae at high levels had 4-fold-lower fecal endotoxin levels, consistent with observed lower levels of Gram-negative Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes. IMPORTANCE The gut microbiome in early life plays an important role for long-term health and is shaped in large part by diet. Probiotics may contribute to improvements in health, but they have not been shown to alter the community composition of the gut microbiome. Here, we found that breastfed infants could be stably colonized at high levels by provision of B. infantis EVC001, with significant changes to the overall microbiome composition persisting more than a month later, whether the infants were born vaginally or by caesarean section. This observation is consistent with previous studies demonstrating the capacity of this subspecies to utilize human milk glycans as a nutrient and underscores the importance of pairing a probiotic organism with a specific substrate. Colonization by B. infantis EVC001 resulted in significant changes to fecal microbiome composition and was associated with improvements in fecal biochemistry. The combination of human milk and an infant-associated Bifidobacterium sp. shows, for the first time, that durable changes to the human gut microbiome are possible and are associated with improved gut function
