Correlation between medication administration-related errors in patients with parkinson disease and timing of pharmacy-led best possible medication histories
Background: Poor prescribing and incomplete medication administration have been linked to increased lengths of hospitalization for patients with Parkinson disease. The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) has recommended that patients with Parkinson disease receive a pharmacy consultation within 2 h of admission to hospital. Objectives: To examine whether the time for a pharmacy team member to obtain a best possible medication history (BPMH) was associated with administration-related medication errors. The primary outcome was the proportion of doses with a medication error during a patient\u27s admission in relation to the time to completion of the initial BPMH by a registered pharmacist (RPh) or registered pharmacy technician (RPhT). The secondary objective was to compare the proportion of doses with a medication error in relation to whether the BPMH was completed by an RPh or an RPhT. Methods: This retrospective chart review involved patients with Parkinson disease who were admitted to the medicine services at London Health Sciences Centre from September 30, 2014, to September 30, 2018. Patients were included if they had Parkinson disease and a medication regimen that included levodopa-carbidopa. For all patients, an RPhT or RPh conducted the initial BPMH or updated the BPMH. Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine whether a correlation existed between administration-related errors and completion of the BPMH by a pharmacy staff member. Results: A total of 84 patients with 104 admissions were included. There was no significant correlation between the time to completion of the initial BPMH by a pharmacy team member and the proportion of doses with medication errors (p = 0.32). Although RPhTs completed the BPMHs more quickly than RPhs (p \u3c 0.001), there was no significant difference between pharmacy team members in terms of the proportion of doses with medication errors (p = 0.86). Conclusions: Completing a BPMH within 2 h of a patient\u27s admission, as per the ISMP recommendation, is unlikely to affect administration-related medication errors, given that no correlation was identified. Expediting BPMH without addressing other factors is insufficient, and initiatives are required to improve the medication administration process
Modeling kicks from the merger of generic black-hole binaries
Recent numerical relativistic results demonstrate that the merger of
comparable-mass spinning black holes has a maximum ``recoil kick'' of up to
\sim 4000 \kms. However the scaling of these recoil velocities with mass
ratio is poorly understood. We present new runs showing that the maximum
possible kick perpendicular to the orbital plane does not scale as
(where is the symmetric mass ratio), as previously proposed, but is more
consistent with , at least for systems with low orbital precession.
We discuss the effect of this dependence on galactic ejection scenarios and

Arkansas Wheat Cultivar Performance Tests 2009-2010
Wheat cultivar performance tests are conducted each year in Arkansas by the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences. The tests provide information to companies developing cultivars and/or marketing seed within the state and aid the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service in formulating cultivar recommendations for small-grain producers
Initial Characterization of the FlgE Hook High Molecular Weight Complex of Borrelia burgdorferi
The spirochete periplasmic flagellum has many unique attributes. One unusual characteristic is the flagellar hook. This structure serves as a universal joint coupling rotation of the membrane-bound motor to the flagellar filament. The hook is comprised of about 120 FlgE monomers, and in most bacteria these structures readily dissociate to monomers (∼ 50 kDa) when treated with heat and detergent. However, in spirochetes the FlgE monomers form a large mass of over 250 kDa [referred to as a high molecular weight complex (HMWC)] that is stable to these and other denaturing conditions. In this communication, we examined specific aspects with respect to the formation and structure of this complex. We found that the Lyme disease spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi synthesized the HMWC throughout the in vitro growth cycle, and also in vivo when implanted in dialysis membrane chambers in rats. The HMWC was stable to formic acid, which supports the concept that the stability of the HMWC is dependent on covalent cross-linking of individual FlgE subunits. Mass spectrometry analysis of the HMWC from both wild type periplasmic flagella and polyhooks from a newly constructed ΔfliK mutant indicated that other proteins besides FlgE were not covalently joined to the complex, and that FlgE was the sole component of the complex. In addition, mass spectrometry analysis also indicated that the HMWC was composed of a polymer of the FlgE protein with both the N- and C-terminal regions remaining intact. These initial studies set the stage for a detailed characterization of the HMWC. Covalent cross-linking of FlgE with the accompanying formation of the HMWC we propose strengthens the hook structure for optimal spirochete motility
A General Formula for Black Hole Gravitational Wave Kicks
Although the gravitational wave kick velocity in the orbital plane of
coalescing black holes has been understood for some time, apparently
conflicting formulae have been proposed for the dominant out-of-plane kick,
each a good fit to different data sets. This is important to resolve because it
is only the out-of-plane kicks that can reach more than 500 km/s and can thus
eject merged remnants from galaxies. Using a different ansatz for the
out-of-plane kick, we show that we can fit almost all existing data to better
than 5 %. This is good enough for any astrophysical calculation, and shows that
the previous apparent conflict was only because the two data sets explored
different aspects of the kick parameter space.Comment: 14 pages

By analyzing interpoint comparisons, we obtain significant results describing the
relationship in “hippocampus shape space” of clinically depressed, high-risk, and control
populations. In particular, our analysis demonstrates that the high-risk population
is closer in shape space to the control population than to the clinically depressed population

We review a recent theoretical determination of the strange quark content of
the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon. These are compared with a
global analysis of current experimental measurements in parity-violating

A Mandated Minimum Competency Testing Program and Its Impact on Learning Disabled Students: Curricular Validity and Comparative Performances
This research was published by the KU Center for Research on Learning, formerly known as the University of Kansas Institute for Research in Learning Disabilities.In this study, LD specialists, regular class teachers, and parents of LD students judged that the objectives of the Kansas Minimum Competency Specifications prescribed for nonhandicapped students were applicable to LD students. In addition, the Kansas Minimal Competency Test was administered to LD students under standard and oral conditions. Results showed that they did not perform as well as their nonhandicapped peers at any of the five grade levels. The test was then administered under two modified conditions. Learning disabled students' performance on some objectives at every grade level was not improved by either administering items orally or administering the test one grade level above that designated for nonhandicapped students
