    The social nets have become a fundamental working tool in the tourist sector. Their capacity to take the information to millions of people in question of seconds, they have returned them a half promotional of success in the one that not very well-known destinations have been able to obtain recognition and to grow inside the market. Before this impronta, the present investigation pursues as general objective the elaboration of a proposal of stocks for the use of the social nets of Internet, in the promotion of the historical-cultural and natural securities of he/she Gets up early, like town of tourist interest, focused fundamentally toward the tourism of health and well-being, potentialized the use of its miner-medicinal waters. Starting from methods and tools like the interviews to agents, specialists, directives and inhabitants, an analysis of the environment, a statistical study related with the employment of the social nets in Cuba and the world, as well as he/she is carried out a benchmarking in tourist towns of reference: Hallstatt, Alberobello and the Floating Islands of the Auroches. The main results were associated with determining the potential that presents he/she gets up early like town of tourist interest and in connection with their promotion in social nets that facilitated the proposal of stocks in function of taking advantage of the advantages of the platforms in reborning of the tourist activity in this community.Las redes sociales se han convertido en una herramienta de trabajo fundamental en el sector turístico. Su capacidad de llevar la información a millones de personas en cuestión de segundos, las han vuelto un medio promocional de éxito en el que destinos poco conocidos han podido obtener reconocimiento y crecer dentro del mercado. Ante esta impronta, la presente investigación persigue como objetivo general la elaboración de una propuesta de acciones para el uso de las redes sociales de Internet, en la promoción de los valores histórico-culturales y naturales de Madruga, como pueblo de interés turístico, enfocada fundamentalmente hacia el turismo de salud y bienestar, potenciado el uso de sus aguas minero-medicinales. A partir de métodos y herramientas como las entrevistas a gestores, especialistas, directivos y habitantes, un análisis del entorno, un estudio estadístico relacionado con el empleo de las redes sociales en Cuba y el mundo, así como un benchmarking en pueblos turísticos de referencia: Hallstatt, Alberobello y las Islas Flotantes de los Uros. Los principales resultados estuvieron asociados con determinar el potencial que presenta madruga como pueblo de interés turístico y en relación con su promoción en redes sociales, que facilitaron la propuesta de acciones en función de aprovechar las ventajas de las plataformas en el renacer de la actividad turística en esta comunidad.As redes sociais se tornaram uma ferramenta de trabalho fundamental no setor do turismo. Sua capacidade de levar informações a milhões de pessoas em questão de segundos os transformou em um meio promocional bem sucedido no qual destinos pouco conhecidos foram capazes de ganhar reconhecimento e crescer dentro do mercado. Em vista disso, o objetivo geral desta pesquisa é desenvolver uma proposta de ações para o uso das redes sociais da Internet na promoção dos valores históricos, culturais e naturais de Madruga, como cidade de interesse turístico, focada principalmente no turismo de saúde e bem-estar, potencializando o uso de suas águas minerais-medicinais. Com base em métodos e ferramentas como entrevistas com gerentes, especialistas, diretores e habitantes, uma análise do meio ambiente, um estudo estatístico relacionado ao uso de redes sociais em Cuba e no mundo, assim como o benchmarking em vilas turísticas de referência: Hallstatt, Alberobello e as Ilhas Flutuantes dos Uros.     An internet of things system for urban flood monitoring and short-term flood forecasting in Colima, Mexico

    Urban flooding is one of the major issues in many parts of the world and its management often challenging. Here we present Internet of Things (IoT) approach for monitoring urban flooding in the City of Colima, Mexico. A network of water level and weather sensors have been developed along with a web-based data platform integrated with IoT techniques to retrieve data using 3G/4G and Wi-Fi networks. The developed architecture uses the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport protocol to send real-time data packages from fixed nodes to a server that stores retrieved data in a non-relational database. Data can be accessed and displayed through different queries and graphical representations, allowing future use in flood analysis and prediction. Additionally, machine learning algorithms are integrated into the system for short-range water level predictions at different nodes of the network

    Measurement of the cosmic ray spectrum above 4×10184{\times}10^{18} eV using inclined events detected with the Pierre Auger Observatory

    A measurement of the cosmic-ray spectrum for energies exceeding 4×10184{\times}10^{18} eV is presented, which is based on the analysis of showers with zenith angles greater than 6060^{\circ} detected with the Pierre Auger Observatory between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2013. The measured spectrum confirms a flux suppression at the highest energies. Above 5.3×10185.3{\times}10^{18} eV, the "ankle", the flux can be described by a power law EγE^{-\gamma} with index γ=2.70±0.02(stat)±0.1(sys)\gamma=2.70 \pm 0.02 \,\text{(stat)} \pm 0.1\,\text{(sys)} followed by a smooth suppression region. For the energy (EsE_\text{s}) at which the spectral flux has fallen to one-half of its extrapolated value in the absence of suppression, we find Es=(5.12±0.25(stat)1.2+1.0(sys))×1019E_\text{s}=(5.12\pm0.25\,\text{(stat)}^{+1.0}_{-1.2}\,\text{(sys)}){\times}10^{19} eV.Comment: Replaced with published version.     Energy Estimation of Cosmic Rays with the Engineering Radio Array of the Pierre Auger Observatory

    The Auger Engineering Radio Array (AERA) is part of the Pierre Auger Observatory and is used to detect the radio emission of cosmic-ray air showers. These observations are compared to the data of the surface detector stations of the Observatory, which provide well-calibrated information on the cosmic-ray energies and arrival directions. The response of the radio stations in the 30 to 80 MHz regime has been thoroughly calibrated to enable the reconstruction of the incoming electric field. For the latter, the energy deposit per area is determined from the radio pulses at each observer position and is interpolated using a two-dimensional function that takes into account signal asymmetries due to interference between the geomagnetic and charge-excess emission components. The spatial integral over the signal distribution gives a direct measurement of the energy transferred from the primary cosmic ray into radio emission in the AERA frequency range. We measure 15.8 MeV of radiation energy for a 1 EeV air shower arriving perpendicularly to the geomagnetic field. This radiation energy -- corrected for geometrical effects -- is used as a cosmic-ray energy estimator. Performing an absolute energy calibration against the surface-detector information, we observe that this radio-energy estimator scales quadratically with the cosmic-ray energy as expected for coherent emission. We find an energy resolution of the radio reconstruction of 22% for the data set and 17% for a high-quality subset containing only events with at least five radio stations with signal.Comment: Replaced with published version.     Measurement of the Radiation Energy in the Radio Signal of Extensive Air Showers as a Universal Estimator of Cosmic-Ray Energy

    We measure the energy emitted by extensive air showers in the form of radio emission in the frequency range from 30 to 80 MHz. Exploiting the accurate energy scale of the Pierre Auger Observatory, we obtain a radiation energy of 15.8 \pm 0.7 (stat) \pm 6.7 (sys) MeV for cosmic rays with an energy of 1 EeV arriving perpendicularly to a geomagnetic field of 0.24 G, scaling quadratically with the cosmic-ray energy. A comparison with predictions from state-of-the-art first-principle calculations shows agreement with our measurement. The radiation energy provides direct access to the calorimetric energy in the electromagnetic cascade of extensive air showers. Comparison with our result thus allows the direct calibration of any cosmic-ray radio detector against the well-established energy scale of the Pierre Auger Observatory.Comment: Replaced with published version.     Lipid Metabolites Enhance Secretion Acting on SNARE Microdomains and Altering the Extent and Kinetics of Single Release Events in Bovine Adrenal Chromaffin Cells

    Lipid molecules such as arachidonic acid (AA) and sphingolipid metabolites have been implicated in modulation of neuronal and endocrine secretion. Here we compare the effects of these lipids on secretion from cultured bovine chromaffin cells. First, we demonstrate that exogenous sphingosine and AA interact with the secretory apparatus as confirmed by FRET experiments. Examination of plasma membrane SNARE microdomains and chromaffin granule dynamics using total internal reflection fluorescent microscopy (TIRFM) suggests that sphingosine production promotes granule tethering while arachidonic acid promotes full docking. Our analysis of single granule release kinetics by amperometry demonstrated that both sphingomyelinase and AA treatments enhanced drastically the amount of catecholamines released per individual event by either altering the onset phase of or by prolonging the off phase of single granule catecholamine release kinetics. Together these results demonstrate that the kinetics and extent of the exocytotic fusion pore formation can be modulated by specific signalling lipids through related functional mechanisms

    Border Insecurity: Reading Transnational Environments in Jim Lynch’s Border Songs

    This article applies an eco-critical approach to contemporary American fiction about the Canada-US border, examining Jim Lynch’s portrayal of the British Columbia-Washington borderlands in his 2009 novel Border Songs. It argues that studying transnational environmental actors in border texts—in this case, marijuana, human migrants, and migratory birds—helps illuminate the contingency of political boundaries, problems of scale, and discourses of risk and security in cross-border regions after 9/11. Further, it suggests that widening the analysis of trans-border activity to include environmental phenomena productively troubles concepts of nature and regional belonging in an era of climate change and economic globalization. Cet article propose une lecture écocritique de la fiction étatsunienne contemporaine portant sur la frontière entre le Canada et les États-Unis, en étudiant le portrait donné par Jim Lynch de la région frontalière entre la Colombie-Britannique et Washington dans son roman Border Songs, paru en 2009. L’article soutient que l’étude, dans les textes sur la frontière, des acteurs environnementaux transnationaux – dans ce cas-ci, la marijuana, les migrants humains et les oiseaux migratoires – jette un jour nouveau sur la contingence des limites territoriales politiques, des problèmes d’échelle et des discours sur le risque et la sécurité des régions transfrontalières après les évènements du 11 septembre 2001. Il suggère également qu’en élargissant l’analyse de l’activité transfrontalière pour y inclure les phénomènes environnementaux, on brouille de façon productive les concepts de nature et d’appartenance régionale d’une époque marquée par les changements climatiques et la mondialisation de l’économie

    Novel genes and sex differences in COVID-19 severity

    [EN] Here, we describe the results of a genome-wide study conducted in 11 939 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) positive cases with an extensive clinical information that were recruited from 34 hospitals across Spain (SCOURGE consortium). In sex-disaggregated genome-wide association studies for COVID-19 hospitalization, genome-wide significance (P < 5 × 10−8) was crossed for variants in 3p21.31 and 21q22.11 loci only among males (P = 1.3 × 10−22 and P = 8.1 × 10−12, respectively), and for variants in 9q21.32 near TLE1 only among females (P = 4.4 × 10−8). In a second phase, results were combined with an independent Spanish cohort (1598 COVID-19 cases and 1068 population controls), revealing in the overall analysis two novel risk loci in 9p13.3 and 19q13.12, with fine-mapping prioritized variants functionally associated with AQP3 (P = 2.7 × 10−8) and ARHGAP33 (P = 1.3 × 10−8), respectively. The meta-analysis of both phases with four European studies stratified by sex from the Host Genetics Initiative (HGI) confirmed the association of the 3p21.31 and 21q22.11 loci predominantly in males and replicated a recently reported variant in 11p13 (ELF5, P = 4.1 × 10−8). Six of the COVID-19 HGI discovered loci were replicated and an HGI-based genetic risk score predicted the severity strata in SCOURGE. We also found more SNP-heritability and larger heritability differences by age (<60 or ≥60 years) among males than among females. Parallel genome-wide screening of inbreeding depression in SCOURGE also showed an effect of homozygosity in COVID-19 hospitalization and severity and this effect was stronger among older males. In summary, new candidate genes for COVID-19 severity and evidence supporting genetic disparities among sexes are provided.S

    Type 2 Diabetes Variants Disrupt Function of SLC16A11 through Two Distinct Mechanisms

    Type 2 diabetes (T2D) affects Latinos at twice the rate seen in populations of European descent. We recently identified a risk haplotype spanning SLC16A11 that explains ∼20% of the increased T2D prevalence in Mexico. Here, through genetic fine-mapping, we define a set of tightly linked variants likely to contain the causal allele(s). We show that variants on the T2D-associated haplotype have two distinct effects: (1) decreasing SLC16A11 expression in liver and (2) disrupting a key interaction with basigin, thereby reducing cell-surface localization. Both independent mechanisms reduce SLC16A11 function and suggest SLC16A11 is the causal gene at this locus. To gain insight into how SLC16A11 disruption impacts T2D risk, we demonstrate that SLC16A11 is a proton-coupled monocarboxylate transporter and that genetic perturbation of SLC16A11 induces changes in fatty acid and lipid metabolism that are associated with increased T2D risk. Our findings suggest that increasing SLC16A11 function could be therapeutically beneficial for T2D.
