Municipal Waste Management in Towns of Switzerland: a Foreign Ecologist’s View
The article presents the results of the research carried out by the foreign ecologists, particularly the study of the system of municipal waste management in the municipality of Maienfeld, Switzerland. The total amount of municipal waste has been calculated. The systems of municipal waste collection, sorting, transportation and recycling have been studied. Besides, four possible scenarios of waste recycling in Maienfeld have been developed. Moreover, the environmental assessment of the waste recycling system by GHG/SLCP emissions has been conducted, and the impact of recycling on the climate has been determined. Finally, taking into account the results of the research, the best scenario of recycling has been proposed
Temperature distribution in Switzerland over the past 155 years: is climate change around the corner?
The article presents the results of the study of the temperature distribution in Switzerland during the period of 1864-2019. The data set has been obtained from the records of the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology «MeteoSwiss». 3120 measurements of temperature taken in twelve periods have been processed. The temperature distribution over the period of 155 years has been analysed. The statistically significant influence of the factor (period) on the parameter (temperature) has been determined. The considerable differences between the annual values of temperature distribution in Switzerland and its regions as well as between the average values of temperature distribution by seasons during each studied period have been found out. Finally, taking into account the results of the research, the recommendations for further work on the study of climate change have been formulated
The impact of landfill gas emission on morphological parameters of leaves in “Kolomna” MSW landfill
The article presents the results of measurements of the atmospheric quality in “Kolomna” municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill, the visual assessment of plant life and analysis of morphological parameters of leaves, which grow in experimental and control areas, and the 3D concentration spreading of landfill gas emission. The main idea is to identify the influence of landfill gas emission and morphological parameters of leaves, which grow near the landfill. By factor analysis, we proved the factor value of landfill gas emissions on the morphological parameters of leaves and revealed the main factors which could change the morphological parameters of leaves in experimental and control areas. © Kaunas University of Technology
