    Kinetics of the decomposition reaction of phosphorite concentrate

    Apatite is the raw material, which is mainly used in phosphate fertilizer, and part are used in yellow phosphorus, red phosphorus, and phosphoric acid in the industry. With the decrease of the high grade phosphorite lump, the agglomeration process is necessary for the phosphorite concentrate after beneficiation process. The decomposition behavior and the phase transformation are of vital importance for the agglomeration process of phosphorite. In this study, the thermal kinetic analysis method was used to study the kinetics of the decomposition of phosphorite concentrate. The phosphorite concentrate was heated under various heating rate, and the phases in the sample heated were examined by the X-ray diffraction method. It was found that the main phases in the phosphorite are fluorapatiteCa5(PO4)3F, quartz SiO2,and dolomite CaMg(CO3)2.The endothermic DSC peak corresponding to the mass loss caused by the decomposition of dolomite covers from 600°C to 850°C. The activation energy of the decomposition of dolomite, which increases with the increase in the extent of conversion, is about 71.6~123.6kJ/mol. The mechanism equation for the decomposition of dolomite agrees with the Valensi equation and G-B equation

    Physical origin of color changes in lutetium hydride under pressure

    Recently, near-ambient superconductivity was claimed in nitrogen-doped lutetium hydride (LuH3−δ_{3-\delta}Nϵ_{\epsilon}) . Unfortunately, all follow-up research still cannot find superconductivity signs in successfully synthesized lutetium dihydride (LuH2_2) and N-doped LuH2±x_{2\pm x}Ny_y. However, a similar intriguing observation was the pressure-induced color changes (from blue to pink and subsequent red). The physical understanding of its origin and the correlation between the color, crystal structure, and chemical composition of Lu-H-N is still lacking. In this work, we theoretically study the optical properties of LuH2_2, LuH3_3, and some potential N-doped compounds using the first-principles calculations by considering both interband and intraband contributions. Our results show that LuH2_2 has an optical reflectivity peak around blue light up to 10 GPa. Under higher pressure, the reflectivity of red light gradually becomes dominant. This evolution is driven by changes in the direct band gap and the Fermi velocity of free electrons under pressure. In contrast, LuH3_3 exhibits gray and no color change up to 50 GPa. Furthermore, we considered different types of N-doped LuH2_2 and LuH3_3. We find that N-doped LuH2_2 with the substitution of a hydrogen atom at the tetrahedral position maintains the color change when the N-doping concentration is low. As the doping level increases, this trend becomes less obvious. While other N-doped structures do not show significant color change. Our results can clarify the origin of the experimental observed blue-to-red color change in lutetium hydride and also provide a further understanding of the potential N-doped lutetium dihydride

    Effect of supercritical CO2 extraction on pore characteristics of coal and its mechanism

    Abundant pore space in coal is not only the place for the accumulation of coalbed methane (CBM), but also the tunnel for gas migration. In this study, five sets of coal samples before and after the second coalification were selected from the eastern margin of Ordos Basin to simulate supercritical CO2 (Sc-CO2) extraction in supercritical extraction equipment. The evolutions of pore structure and porosity were tested by mercury intrusion porosimetry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to compare the changes of pore structure and porosity due to the Sc-CO2 extraction, and to explain the related mechanism. The results show that: (1) Pore volume, pore specific surface area, and connectivity characteristics changed significantly due to Sc-CO2 extraction, and the increment of pore volume and pore specific surface area presented a law of increase–decrease–increase with the increase in the coal rank, and the turning point was near the second coalification. (2) The porosity increment change trend due to Sc-CO2 extraction was increase–decrease–increase with increasing coal rank, and the turning point was again near the second coalification, which supports the mercury intrusion porosimetry results. (3) The changes were observed in the porosity characteristics due to Sc-CO2 extraction through pore-increasing and expanding effects. Before the second coalification, the pore-increasing and expanding effects co-existed in the micropores, and after the second coalification, the pore-expanding effect mainly existed in the transitional pores and above. (4) The variation model for the pore structure of coal due to Sc-CO2 extraction was established. The conclusions offer not only important theoretical significance for the CO2-enhanced CBM (CO2-ECBM) mechanism but also important significance for CO2-ECBM engineering

    Zonal Patterns of Delta C-13, Delta N-15 and Po-210 In the Tropical and Subtropical North Pacific

    Nitrogen fixation process may supply a significant fraction of bioavailable nitrogen to surface waters, increase the oceanic sequestration of atmospheric CO2, and alter the distribution of geochemical parameters. We report a zonal pattern of delta N-15 and delta C-13 in particulate organic matter (POM), and ratios of particulate Po-210 to dissolved Po-210 along a transect through the subtropical and tropical North Pacific. Both N-15 and Po-210 signals indicated an enhanced N-2 fixation in the northwestern subtropical North Pacific. The eastward decrease of N-2 fixation along this transect testified the role of aeolian Fe and P in controlling marine N-2 fixation. Associated with the zonal variations of N-15 and Po-210, the delta C-13 of suspended POM increased eastward, reflecting the decrease of anthropogenic CO2 concentration in surface seawater from west to east in the study area. Our results highlight the need to examine more closely the mechanisms of possible longitudinal variation in N-2 fixation in the ocean and the role of aeolian Fe and P in controlling marine N-2 fixation and anthropogenic CO2

    Effects of LncRNA-HOST2 on cell proliferation, migration, invasion and apoptosis of human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line SMMC-7721

    Correspondence: Jing-Lin Cao (jinglin [email protected]) The present study explored the effect of long non-coding RNA-human ovarian cancer-specific transcript 2 (LncRNA-HOST2) on cell proliferation, migration, invasion and apoptosis of human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell line SMMC-7721. HCC tissues and adjacent normal tissues from 162 HCC patients were collected. The HCC cell lines were assigned into the control group (regular culture), negative control (NC) group (transfected with siRNA) and experimental group (transfected with Lnc-HOST2 siRNA). Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the expression of LncRNA-HOST2. Cell proliferation was detected by CCK-8 and colony-forming assays, cell apoptosis by flow cytometry and cell migration by Scratch test. Transwell assay was used to evaluate cell migration and invasion abilities. LncRNA-HOST2 expression in the HCC tissues increased 2-10 times than that in the adjacent normal tissues. Compared with the HL-7702 cell line, LncRNA-HOST2 expression in HepG2, SMMC-7721 and Huh7 cell lines was all up-regulated, but the SMMC-7721 cell had the highest Lnc-HOST2 expression. The LncRNA-HOST2 expression in the experimental group was down-regulated as compared with the control and NC groups. In comparison with the control and NC groups, cloned cells reduced, cell apoptosis increased, clone-forming ability weakened and inhibitory rate of colony formation increased in the experimental group. The cells migrating and penetrating into the transwell chamber were fewer in the experimental group than those in the control and NC groups. The experimental group exhibited slow wound healing and decreased cell migration area after 48 h. These findings indicate that LncRNA-HOST2 can promote cell proliferation, migration and invasion and inhibit cell apoptosis in human HCC cell line SMMC-7721

    The role of laparoscopic surgery in the surgical management of recurrent liver malignancies: A systematic review and meta-analysis

    ObjectiveTo evaluate the efficiency of laparoscopic surgery in treating recurrent liver tumors vs. conventional open surgery.MethodsDatabase searching was conducted in PubMed, the Cochrane Library and EMBASE. Rev Man 5.3 software and Stata 13.0 software were applied in statistical analyses.ResultsA total of fourteen studies were finally included with 1,284 patients receiving LRH and 2,254 with ORH. LRH was associated with less intraoperative hemorrhage, a higher R0 resection rate, a lower incidence of Pringle Maneuver, a lower incidence of postoperative morbidities, a better overall survival and an enhanced postoperative recovery vs. ORH. Patients receiving LRH shared similar operative time, tumor number and disease-free survival as those with ORH. However, tumor size was relatively larger in patients receiving ORH and major hepatectomy, anatomic hepatectomy were rarely performed in patients with LRH. Additional analyses between LRH and laparoscopic primary hepatectomy revealed less intraoperative blood loss in patients with LRH.ConclusionLRH is safe and feasible with more favorable peri-operative outcomes and faster postoperative recovery. However, it is only applicable for some highly-selected cases not requiring complex surgical procedures. Future larger well-designed studies are expected for further validation

    Correlation Between Gait and Near-Infrared Brain Functional Connectivity Under Cognitive Tasks in Elderly Subjects With Mild Cognitive Impairment

    Older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) have a high risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Gait performance is a potential clinical marker for the progression of MCI into dementia. However, the relationship between gait and brain functional connectivity (FC) in older adults with MCI remains unclear. Forty-five subjects [MCI group, n = 23; healthy control (HC) group, n = 22] were recruited. Each subject performed a walking task (Task 01), counting backward–walking task (Task 02), naming animals–walking task (Task 03), and calculating–walking task (Task 04). The gait parameters and cerebral oxygenation signals from the left prefrontal cortex (LPFC), right prefrontal cortex (RPFC), left motor cortex (LMC), right motor cortex (RMC), left occipital leaf cortex (LOL), and right occipital leaf cortex (ROL) were obtained simultaneously. Wavelet phase coherence was calculated in two frequency intervals: low frequency (interval I, 0.052–0.145 Hz) and very low frequency (interval II, 0.021–0.052 Hz). Results showed that the FC of RPFC–RMC is significantly lower in interval I in Task 03 compared with that in Task 02 in the MCI group (p = 0.001). Also, the right relative symmetry index (IDpsR) is significantly lower in Task 03 compared with that in Task 02 (p = 0.000). The IDpsR is positively correlated with the FC of RPFC–RMC in interval I in the MCI group (R = 0.205, p = 0.041). The gait symmetry such as left relative symmetry index (IDpsL) and IDpsR is significantly lower in the dual-task (DT) situation compared with the single task in the two groups (p < 0.05). The results suggested that the IDpsR might reflect abnormal change in FC of RPFC–RMC in interval I in the MCI population during Task 03. The gait symmetry is affected by DTs in both groups. The findings of this study may have a pivotal role in the early monitoring and intervention of brain dysfunction among older adults with MCI

    Differences and Similarities in the Clinicopathological Features of Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors in China and the United States: A Multicenter Study

    The presentation, pathology, and prognosis of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) in Asian patients have not been studied in large cohorts. We hypothesized that the clinicopathological features of PNETs of Chinese patients might be different from those of US patients. The objectives of this study were to address whether PNETs in Chinese patients exhibit unique clinicopathological features and natural history, and can be graded and staged using the WHO/ENETS criteria. This is a retrospective review of medical records of patients with PNETs in multiple academic medical centers in China (7) and the United States (2). Tumor grading and staging were based on WHO/ENETS criteria. The clinicopathological features of PNETs of Chinese and US patients were compared. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to find associations between survival and patient demographics, tumor grade and stage, and other clinicopathological characteristics. A total of 977 (527 Chinese and 450 US) patients with PNETs were studied. In general, Chinese patients were younger than US patients (median age 46 vs 56 years). In Chinese patients, insulinomas were the most common (52.2%), followed by nonfunctional tumors (39.7%), whereas the order was reversed in US patients. Tumor grade distribution was similar in the 2 countries (G1: 57.5% vs 55.0%; G2: 38.5% vs 41.3%; and G3: 4.0% vs 3.7%). However, age, primary tumor size, primary tumor location, grade, and stage of subtypes of PNETs were significantly different between the 2 countries. The Chinese nonfunctional tumors were significantly larger than US ones (median size 4 vs 3 cm) and more frequently located in the head/neck region (54.9% vs 34.8%). The Chinese and US insulinomas were similar in size (median 1.5 cm) but the Chinese insulinomas relatively more frequently located in the head/neck region (48.3% vs 26.1%). Higher grade, advanced stage, metastasis, and larger primary tumor size were significantly associated with unfavorable survival in both countries. Several clinicopathological differences are found between Chinese and US PNETs but the PNETs of both countries follow a similar natural history. The WHO tumor grading and ENETS staging criteria are applicable to both Chinese and US patients
