Formulation of the Objective Function for Economic Dispatch Optimisation of Steam Cycle CHP Plants

The paper starts the series of publications concerned on production simulation and expansion planning of various cogeneration applications, especially based on distributed generation technologies. This particular paper presents the formulation of optimisation problem for economic dispatch of steam cycle CHP plants widely used in the former Soviet Union. Polynomial quadratic equations were applied to describe interrelations between input steam and output power and heat for cogeneration steam turbines. Mathematical model of turbines was verified by numerical example, taking the input data from normative characteristic graphs

The Evaluation of Feasibility of Heat Storage System in Riga TPP – 2

The thermal energy storage system (TES) installation provides the optimization of energy source, energy security supply, power plant operation and energy production flexibility. The aim of this research - evaluate the feasibility of thermal energy system installation at Riga TPP–2. The six modes were investigated: four for non–heating periods and two for heating periods

    Stokholmas siltumapgādes sistēmas attīstības tendences

Zviedrijā ap 65% siltumenerģijas tiek saražoti centralizētās siltumapgādes sistēmās. Stokholmas centralizētā siltumapgādes sistēma (CSS) ir viena no lielākajām ne tikai Zviedrijā, bet visā Eiropā. Stokholmas pilsētas siltumtīklus var nosacīti iedalīt trīs lielās siltumapgādes zonās - Dienvidu CSS, pilsētas centra CSS un Ziemeļrietumu CSS, kā arī citās mazākās siltumapgādes zonās..

Feasibility of Usage of Thermoelectric Modules for Recovering of Low-Potential Heat from a Surface of Power Transformers

This paper analyses the possibility of using the low-potential heat from a surface of power transformers. The authors discuss the production of electricity by means of thermoelectric modules. The feasibility of usage of thermoelectric modules was analyzed by carrying out theoretical calculations and a series of experimental test, which gave a clear view of capability of an application of thermoelectric modules for recovering of low-potential heat of power transformers

Utilization of Latent Heat of 330 kV Autotransformer for Space and Water Heating in Substation Imanta

This paper analyzes possibilities to use a latent heat from a cooling system of autotransformers to provide space and water heating to the substation “Imanta”. Technical and economical calculations were made for evaluation of the feasibility of proposed modernization of the substation

The Evaluation of Feasibility of Thermal Energy Storage System at Riga TPP-2

The thermal energy storage system (TES) installation provides the optimization of energy source, energy security supply, power plant operation and energy production flexibility. The aim of this research - evaluate the feasibility of thermal energy system installation at Riga TPP–2. The six modes were investigated: four for non–heating periods and two for heating periods. Different research methods were used: data statistic processing, data analysis, analogy, forecasting, financial method and correlation and regression method. In the end, the best mode was chosen – the increase of cogeneration unit efficiency during the summer

Latvijas primāro energoresursu patēriņš: vēsturiskās izmaiņas un prognozes

1991. gada notikumi Latvijā aizsāka straujas ekonomiskās pārmaiņas, kam sekoja arī izmaiņas energoresursu patēriņā. Šajā publikācijā energoresursu patēriņa vēsturiskās izmaiņas atspoguļotas 20 gadu periodā – no 1993. līdz 2013. gadam.

Flexibility Options of Riga CHP-2 Plant Operation under Conditions of Open Electricity Market

Nowadays with commercialization of cogeneration business, expansion of electricity production and profit maximization are the main optimization criteria for power plants. That is why, the number of combined heat and power (CHP) plants in Europe change their current operation modes to different ones – operation in cycling mode with shut down or load reduction of generating units at night time. This research provides the investigation of changes in Riga CHP-2 plant operation modes, as the result of opening of Latvian price area in Nord Pool Spot (NPS) power exchange. Combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) units of Riga CHP-2 plant were chosen as investigation objects. Negative and positive aspects of cycling operation of Riga CHP-2 plant were explored under conditions of open electricity market. Finally, some measures for modernisation and upgrade of Riga CHP-2 were recommended to improve efficiency of cycling operation and flexibility
