    Algorithm for Video Summarization of Bronchoscopy Procedures

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The duration of bronchoscopy examinations varies considerably depending on the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures used. It can last more than 20 minutes if a complex diagnostic work-up is included. With wide access to videobronchoscopy, the whole procedure can be recorded as a video sequence. Common practice relies on an active attitude of the bronchoscopist who initiates the recording process and usually chooses to archive only selected views and sequences. However, it may be important to record the full bronchoscopy procedure as documentation when liability issues are at stake. Furthermore, an automatic recording of the whole procedure enables the bronchoscopist to focus solely on the performed procedures. Video recordings registered during bronchoscopies include a considerable number of frames of poor quality due to blurry or unfocused images. It seems that such frames are unavoidable due to the relatively tight endobronchial space, rapid movements of the respiratory tract due to breathing or coughing, and secretions which occur commonly in the bronchi, especially in patients suffering from pulmonary disorders.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The use of recorded bronchoscopy video sequences for diagnostic, reference and educational purposes could be considerably extended with efficient, flexible summarization algorithms. Thus, the authors developed a prototype system to create shortcuts (called summaries or abstracts) of bronchoscopy video recordings. Such a system, based on models described in previously published papers, employs image analysis methods to exclude frames or sequences of limited diagnostic or education value.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The algorithm for the selection or exclusion of specific frames or shots from video sequences recorded during bronchoscopy procedures is based on several criteria, including automatic detection of "non-informative", frames showing the branching of the airways and frames including pathological lesions.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The paper focuses on the challenge of generating summaries of bronchoscopy video recordings.</p

    It was once thought that high Quality of Service (QoS) performance solves recurrent problems of lowquality multimedia services. Since then, solutions have been proposed to ensure a high level of Quality of Experience (QoE). In this paper, the author attempts to outline an understanding of an accurate meaning of multimedia services quality. Starting from QoS and passing through generalized QoE, the author focuses on subjective aspects and objective quality modeling and optimization of visual performance for Target Recognition Video (TRV) applications (such as video surveillance), to outline the ITU-T standardization path in this area. The revising the ITU-T Recommendation P.912 is proposed to reflect improved subjective test techniques developed since this Recommendation was approved. Also at least some existing errors of reasoning are predicted, which are likely to become evident for the industry in the next decade. Finally, the author invites all researchers working on topics related to TRV to join him in the process of improving P.912

Unfortunately, even well educated people do not speak sufficiently in more than two or three foreign languages, while most know only one, and this significantly limits the access to this information. In this paper, we define requirements for an automated system for Accessing Multilingual Information and opinionS (AMIS) that will help in the understanding of multimedia content transmitted in different languages, with simultaneous comparison to counterparts in their native language user. The concept of understanding we use will provide access to any information, regardless of the language in which it is presented. We believe that the AMIS project can have a immense and positive impact on the integration and awareness of society in social and cultural terms

    The key objective of no-reference (NR) visual metrics is to predict the end-user experience concerning remotely delivered video content. Rapidly increasing demand for easily accessible, high quality video material makes it crucial for service providers to test the user experience without the need for comparison with reference material. Nevertheless, the QoE measurement is not enough. The information about the source or error is very important as well. Therefore, the described system is based on calculating numerous different NR indicators, which are combined to provide the overall quality score. In this paper, more quality indicators than are used in the QoE calculation are described, since some of them detect specific errors. Such specific errors are dificult to include in a global QoE model but are important from the operation point of view
