In order to structure it, it was put into perspective - from thinkers like Félix Guattari, MarÌa Noel Lapoujade, MartÌn Hopenhayn and Fred Ritchin, among others - the propagandist and shaping context of the individual and collective sociocultural imaginaries of the media, information and entertainment. In the same direction, we alluded to media feedback processes as being responsible for the homogenization of sociocultural imaginaries, and questioned the influences of this phenomenon on and female photographic practices and the female, and for that, we were in dialogue with thinkers, artists and activists, among them, Beatriz Preciado and Carmen Hernandez. Finally, a set of photographs, mostly designed by female photographers and contemporary female artists, are included, focusing on the female image, with the purpose of leaving the reader to the final reflection on the persistence or not of patriarchal patterns in these creations

This article proposes to examine the discursive and/ or the narrative ability involving the photographic images, more specifically, the contemporary ones. Following Barthes’ framework, this examination accounts for the linguistic nature of photographic images in terms of their two-folded aspect as connotative image and denotative image in which any image is closely connected with the cultural context. In this sense, other concepts and authors such as Jean-Marie Schaeffer, Philippe Dubois, Régis Durand, Victor Burgin and Martine Joly have also been considered in order to broaden the discussion. Thus, this article conveys, following Jacques Aumont, in its broader sense, the narrative structure as well as its particular aspects which, in turn, may facilitate their incorporation into contemporary photographic practice

The following text draws on a research entitled The Pioneers of Photography in Rio Grande city which investigated the first photographic practices in Rio Grande city between 1845 and 1900 based on historical newspapers available at the local library archive. Other sources were either analyzed in order to identify the photographers and their references, their nationalities, date of arrival in Brazil – if foreigners- as well as particularities of their work. The aim of this study is to begin to organize a historical panorama of photography in Rio Grande city especially for its importance as a social practice into the community which may become an alternative reference for researchers in the area

Development of the CMS detector for the CERN LHC Run 3

International audienceSince the initial data taking of the CERN LHC, the CMS experiment has undergone substantial upgrades and improvements. This paper discusses the CMS detector as it is configured for the third data-taking period of the CERN LHC, Run 3, which started in 2022. The entire silicon pixel tracking detector was replaced. A new powering system for the superconducting solenoid was installed. The electronics of the hadron calorimeter was upgraded. All the muon electronic systems were upgraded, and new muon detector stations were added, including a gas electron multiplier detector. The precision proton spectrometer was upgraded. The dedicated luminosity detectors and the beam loss monitor were refurbished. Substantial improvements to the trigger, data acquisition, software, and computing systems were also implemented, including a new hybrid CPU/GPU farm for the high-level trigger
