Novel digital techniques to improve the sensitivity of limiting amplifier

    Get PDF
[[abstract]]In this paper we utilize the novel digital techniques (TW, DRMC, DS) to improve the sensitivity of the limiting amplifier. The Time Window (TW) technique can ignore the positive and negative trigger noises within the window close time. The Delay Racing Memory Counter (DRMC) technique can eliminate the positive trigger noises within the window open time. The Delay Sum (DS) technique can solve the negative trigger noise around the signal transition from low to high. Fluorescence microscopy imaging with a Fresnel zone plate array based optofluidic microscope

    Get PDF
We report the implementation of an on-chip microscope system, termed fluorescence optofluidic microscope (FOFM), which is capable of fluorescence microscopy imaging of samples in fluid media. The FOFM employs an array of Fresnel zone plates (FZP) to generate an array of focused light spots within a microfluidic channel. As a sample flows through the channel and across the array of focused light spots, the fluorescence emissions are collected by a filter-coated CMOS sensor, which serves as the channel’s floor. The collected data can then be processed to render fluorescence microscopy images at a resolution determined by the focused light spot size (experimentally measured as 0.65 mm FWHM). In our experiments, our established resolution was 1.0 mm due to Nyquist criterion consideration. As a demonstration, we show that such a system can be used to image the cell nuclei stained by Acridine Orange and cytoplasm labeled by Qtracker

Gravitational waves from cosmic bubble collisions

Cosmic bubbles are nucleated through the quantum tunneling process. After nucleation they would expand and undergo collisions with each other. In this paper, we focus in particular on collisions of two equal-sized bubbles and compute gravitational waves emitted from the collisions. First, we study the mechanism of the collisions by means of a real scalar field and its quartic potential. Then, using this model, we compute gravitational waves from the collisions in a straightforward manner. In the quadrupole approximation, time-domain gravitational waveforms are directly obtained by integrating the energy-momentum tensors over the volume of the wave sources, where the energy-momentum tensors are expressed in terms of the scalar field, the local geometry and the potential. We present gravitational waveforms emitted during (i) the initial-to-intermediate stage of strong collisions and (ii) the final stage of weak collisions: the former is obtained numerically, in \textit{full General Relativity} and the latter analytically, in the flat spacetime approximation. We gain qualitative insights into the time-domain gravitational waveforms from bubble collisions: during (i), the waveforms show the non-linearity of the collisions, characterized by a modulating frequency and cusp-like bumps, whereas during (ii), the waveforms exhibit the linearity of the collisions, featured by smooth monochromatic oscillations.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figure

Selection of multimedia code set using GA in optical CDMA network

    Get PDF
[[abstract]]In this paper we design a central controller in the optical CDMA network which assigns multimedia code set to users. Because different kinds of services can tolerate different degree of reliability, we can assign codes to users according to its request service type. For example, users who transmit data service must guarantee the transmission efficient, thus we assign high reliable codes to users. On the contrary, voice and video services can tolerate some errors in its transmission process, thus we assign a low reliable codes to these kinds of services. In this paper, we use genetic algorithm (GA) to select the code set which contains different degree of reliable codes. By this solution, we can easily select the code set and assign to users according to the user's request[[notice]]補正完畢[[cooperationtype]]國際[[conferencelocation]]Rio de Janeiro, Brazi
