    Study on Traffic Status Threshold Based on Floating Taxi

    AbstractThe applications of floating car in road traffic condition identification are taken seriously and gradually developed. The paper studies the variables threshold in traffic condition information based on the floating taxi: section traffic information update cycle, data sampling interval, section covering ratio, floating taxi sample size. The optimization idea of floating taxi sample size is given. The traffic condition identification algorithm based on the floating taxi is put forward. The practice in two road sections shows that the algorithm is feasible which can offer useful reference for urban traffic management and resident trips decision

    Investigation of a Photoelectrochemical Passivated ZnO-Based Glucose Biosensor

    A vapor cooling condensation system was used to deposit high quality intrinsic ZnO thin films and intrinsic ZnO nanorods as the sensing membrane of extended-gate field-effect-transistor (EGFET) glucose biosensors. The sensing sensitivity of the resulting glucose biosensors operated in the linear range was 13.4 μA mM−1 cm−2. To improve the sensing sensitivity of the ZnO-based glucose biosensors, the photoelectrochemical method was utilized to passivate the sidewall surfaces of the ZnO nanorods. The sensing sensitivity of the ZnO-based glucose biosensors with passivated ZnO nanorods was significantly improved to 20.33 μA mM−1 cm−2 under the same measurement conditions. The experimental results verified that the sensing sensitivity improvement was the result of the mitigation of the Fermi level pinning effect caused by the dangling bonds and the surface states induced on the sidewall surface of the ZnO nanorods

    Double primary bronchogenic carcinoma of the lung and papillary thyroid carcinoma: a case report

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Introduction</p> <p>Double primary bronchogenic carcinoma and papillary carcinoma of the thyroid are extremely rare. We describe the case of a patient who underwent surgical resection for these two cancers.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>A 56-year-old man presented to our hospital complaining of a cough with blood-tinged sputum. A slowly growing mass in the left lobe of the lung had been noted for about 1 year. He underwent video-assisted thoracic surgery of the left lower lobe and mediastinal lymph node dissection through an 8 cm utility incision. Pathology revealed a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma and the dissected lymph nodes were negative for malignancy. He also complained of a mass in his neck, which had grown slowly for over 5 years. A computed tomography scan of the neck revealed a left thyroid mass compressing the trachea towards the right side. There was no cervical lymphadenopathy. A left thyroid lobectomy was performed and pathology revealed a papillary carcinoma. Thus, he underwent a second operation to remove the right lobe of the thyroid. He underwent subsequent adjuvant chemotherapy.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>In a review of the literature, it appears that there has only been one previously reported case of these two cancers, which was in Japan. The relationship between these two cancers is still unclear, and more case reports are required to determine this relationship.</p

    An Alternative Approach for Improving Performance of Organic Photovoltaics by Light-Enhanced Annealing

    This work proposes an approach for improving the performance of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT-) based organic photovoltaics (OPVs). P3HT-based bulk heterojunction (BHJ) film can absorb the energy from 532 nm laser light and be transformed into favorable morphology. A combination of traditional thermal annealing and laser annealing improved device performance, with a slight increase in fill factor and a significant improvement in short-circuit current density. Better crystallization and a higher degree of molecular order in the thermal/laser coannealed P3HT-based BHJ film were observed through X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy

    Imaging Features of Pediatric Pentastomiasis Infection: a Case Report

    We report here a case of pentastomiasis infection in a 3-year-old girl who had high fever, abdominal pain, abdominal tension and anemia. Ultrasound scanning of the abdomen revealed disseminated hyperechoic nodules in the liver and a small amount of ascites. Abdominal MRI showed marked hepatomegaly with disseminated miliary nodules of high signal intensity throughout the hepatic parenchyma on T2-weighted images; retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy and disseminated miliary nodules on the peritoneum were also noted. Chest CT showed scattered small hyperdense nodules on both sides of the lungs. The laparoscopy demonstrated diffuse white nodules on the liver surface and the peritoneum. After the small intestinal wall and peritoneal biopsy, histological examination revealed parenchymal tubercles containing several larvae of pentastomids and a large amount of inflammatory cell infiltration around them. The pathological diagnosis was parasitic granuloma from pentastomiasis infection

    Indoor CO2 monitoring in a surgical intensive care unit under visitation restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic

    BackgroundIndoor CO2 concentration is an important metric of indoor air quality (IAQ). The dynamic temporal pattern of CO2 levels in intensive care units (ICUs), where healthcare providers experience high cognitive load and occupant numbers are frequently changing, has not been comprehensively characterized.ObjectiveWe attempted to describe the dynamic change in CO2 levels in the ICU using an Internet of Things-based (IoT-based) monitoring system. Specifically, given that the COVID-19 pandemic makes hospital visitation restrictions necessary worldwide, this study aimed to appraise the impact of visitation restrictions on CO2 levels in the ICU.MethodsSince February 2020, an IoT-based intelligent indoor environment monitoring system has been implemented in a 24-bed university hospital ICU, which is symmetrically divided into areas A and B. One sensor was placed at the workstation of each area for continuous monitoring. The data of CO2 and other pollutants (e.g., PM2.5) measured under standard and restricted visitation policies during the COVID-19 pandemic were retrieved for analysis. Additionally, the CO2 levels were compared between workdays and non-working days and between areas A and B.ResultsThe median CO2 level (interquartile range [IQR]) was 616 (524–682) ppm, and only 979 (0.34%) data points obtained in area A during standard visitation were ≥ 1,000 ppm. The CO2 concentrations were significantly lower during restricted visitation (median [IQR]: 576 [556–596] ppm) than during standard visitation (628 [602–663] ppm; p &lt; 0.001). The PM2.5 concentrations were significantly lower during restricted visitation (median [IQR]: 1 [0–1] μg/m3) than during standard visitation (2 [1–3] μg/m3; p &lt; 0.001). The daily CO2 and PM2.5 levels were relatively low at night and elevated as the occupant number increased during clinical handover and visitation. The CO2 concentrations were significantly higher in area A (median [IQR]: 681 [653–712] ppm) than in area B (524 [504–547] ppm; p &lt; 0.001). The CO2 concentrations were significantly lower on non-working days (median [IQR]: 606 [587–671] ppm) than on workdays (583 [573–600] ppm; p &lt; 0.001).ConclusionOur study suggests that visitation restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic may affect CO2 levels in the ICU. Implantation of the IoT-based IAQ sensing network system may facilitate the monitoring of indoor CO2 levels
