Charakterystyka substancji organicznej poziomów ektohumusowych gleb leśnych Gór Stołowych
This paper describes the fractional composition of humus substances and physico-chemical properties of ectohumus horizons in forest soils (Haplic Cambisols (Distric) and Albic Podzols) developed from various parent materials and in various forest sites: mountain mixed forest witch beech tree, spruce forest witch spruce monoculture, mountain mixed forest witch beech, sycamore maple and larch and mountain mixed forest witch spruce and larch. Reactions of the analyzed soils were strongly acidic. Organic C content was in the range of 21-48% and total N reached values between 0.68-1.63%. The fractional composition of humus substances was analyzed using the Tiurin method. Fraction Ia (extracted with 0.05 mol dm⁻¹ H₂ SO₄ ) constituted a rather insignificant part (1.03-3.63% of Corg) of humus compounds. Humus was dominated by fraction I (extracted with 0.1 mol·dm⁻¹ NaOH) (27.4 - 42.5% of Corg). The ratio of CHA:CFA was within the range of 0.75-1.35 and increased in deeper organic subhorizons. Non-extracted C was within the range of 55.7-69.7% of Corg. In all the ectohumus samples investigated, the highest humification degree was found in the deepest organic subhorizon
Zawartość wybranych metali ciężkich oraz wymiennych kationów zasadowych w glebach położonych w Dolinie Baryczy
In many ways, the Barycz Valley is a unique region. For one thing, it contains the highest
number of fish ponds in Poland. Secondly, it is free from heavy industry and large cities. Thus,
this region may be considered considerably clean, and the observed concentrations of trace
elements are typical for non-degraded environments. There is, however, a threat of excessive
accumulation of trace elements such as Zn, Pb and Cu in waters of the rivers in the Barycz
drainage basin, received from point sources, and especially supplied with wastewater. These
rivers play a very important role; namely, they are the source of water for filling up numerous
ponds (Marek 1989). On the other hand, any seepage of river waters into the groundwater may
cause excessive concentrations of trace elements in soils near the ponds.
The objective of the study was to analyse and assess sorption properties of sandy soils
used as hay meadows. As the study was conducted in a special bird protection area (SBP)
included in the European Ecological Network Nature 2000, special attention was paid to the
content of selected trace elements. The following analyses were performed on the collected soil
samples: particle size distribution, pH in 1 mol KCl dm-3, TOC, N total, content of exchangeable
base cations (Ca+2, Mg+2, K+, Na+) and total content of the metals Fe, Mn, Zn, Pb and Cu.
The genesis of the examined soils seems closely linked to the very wet moistened local
environment, which significantly influenced the physical and physicochemical soil parameters.
These soils were formed in a region crisscrossed by a dense network of watercourses of the
Barycz River drainage basin, with strong ominant aquaculture traditions. The sum of base
exchange cations (S) and cation exchange capacity (CEC) in the examined soils are strongly
affected by the particle size distribution, the fact confirmed by significant positive relationships
with the silt fraction and colloidal fraction, and significant negative correlations with the
sand fraction. Higher content of Zn, Pb and Cu in surface genetic horizons of the examined
soil profiles may point to the anthropogenic origin of the metals. Despite the dominant sandy
texture, the soils are characterised by a thick humus horizon, abundant in TOC and TN, which
increases their capacity for trace element accumulation. Our assessment of the contamination of these soils with Zn, Pb and Cu did not demonstrate any excess in terms of the permissible
levels of the trace elements.

Większa zawartość Zn, Pb i Cu w wierzchnich
antropogeniczne pochodzenie. Badane gleby, mimo dominującego piaszczystego uziarnienia,
charakteryzują się dużą miąższością poziomu próchnicznego zasobnego w C-org.

Wpływ pożaru na zasoby węgla i retencję wodną łąkowych i leśnych gleb popożarowych
The research has aimed to determine the impact of fire on pools of soil organic matter and water retention in pyrogenic soil in meadow and forest areas. The following soil samples have been represented: moorsh, peat-moorsh, mineral moorsh and peat. The soil horizons represented: strongly dried peat-moorsh soil, medium-deep (MtIIc1 and MtIIIc1), mineral moorsh soil (Me11) and moorsh soil. Soil horizons have been determined on the basis of colour, decomposition of organic samples; bulk density and water retention have been analyzed in 100 cm³ stainless Kopecky metal rings. Bulk density was measured in undisturbed samples by the volumetric method. Soil water retention characterized by pF2.0 has been measured using sandbox analyzer. Soil organic carbon content was detected with Bushi analyzer. The lowest carbon content has been indicated by horizons with high ash content. As a consequence of various fire temperatures, we can observe different soil colour spectrum between N, 10YR and 5YR. Generally, the pools of water retention decreases because of the fire. We can observe differences between SOM pools and water retention pools in the meadow and forest soil. Water retention of pyrogenic soils drastically decreases in mineral-organic soils with angular sharply edged structure and peaty-ash or ash horizons
High concentration of heavy metals in organic soils may be the result of intensive,
deep-seated fires causing high temperatures. This research has been carried in four postfire
areas, located in forests or on meadows in Lower Silesia. The aim has been to determine
the impact of some parameters on the content of heavy metals in soils under postfire
meadows and forests. The concentration and pool of the analyzed heavy metals were
determined in soils against the background of such parameters as the depth in a horizon,
organic matter content, soil colour and soil reaction. Twenty Histosol soil profiles (85 soil
samples) were analyzed, representing peat-muck, muck (MtIIc1, MtIIIc1) and mineral-mucky
(Me11) and on-muck soils (according to the Polish taxonomy of soils). The soils were
strongly desiccated. Some physicochemical and chemical properties of pyrogenic soils were
analyzed in dry samples collected into plastic bags with an Instorfu auger. Heavy metals
(Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Cr) were determined in HCl + HNO3. Pools of heavy metals were recalculated
into g m–2 in 0-20 cm layers of soils and compared among forest and meadow soils.
Due to intensive fires, the reaction of pyrogenic soils was slightly acid, neutral or alkaline.
As a consequence of the high temperatures, a broad spectrum of soil colours was noticed.
The results showed increased concentrations of heavy metals in the topmost and muddy
soil horizons. The alkaline soil reaction favoured accumulation of heavy metals. Pools of
heavy metals in soils were significantly lower in forest than in meadow areas, which could
be attributed to different time periods which elapsed since the fires. The Hue tint of the
colour of soil horizons containing ashes indicated the presence of oxidized iron forms and a low content of organic carbon. The accumulation of heavy metals in post-fire sites in
Lower Silesia was negatively correlated with the soil’s strongly acid reaction. The determined
concentrations of heavy metals did not exceed the threshold values set for unpolluted
(Me11) i namurszowych (85 próbek glebowych). Właściwości fizykochemiczne i chemiczne
gleb popożarowych oznaczono w próbkach suchych pobranych świdrem Instorf do
plastikowych woreczków. Zawartość metali ciężkich (Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Cr) w glebie oznaczano
po mineralizacji w mieszaninie HCl+HNO3. Zasoby metali ciężkich w glebie przeliczano
na g m–2 w 0-20 cm warstwie gleby i porównywano z glebami leśnymi i łąkowymi. Badania
Zawartosc mikroelementow w czarnych ziemiach wroclawskich
Analizowano zawartość mikroelementów (Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn, Ni) w podtypach czarnych ziem wrocławskich zróżnicowanych gatunkowo. Wykazano wpływ części spławialnych oraz składu frakcyjnego związków próchnicznych w kształtowaniu ilości mikroelementów w poziomach orno-próchnicznych. Wysoką korelację dodatnią wykazała zawartość części spławialnych z ilością Cu, Fe, Zn, Ni, podobnie udział kwasów huminowyoh związanych z Ca wykazał korelację z Cu i Fe.Microelement contents (Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn, Ni) were analyzed in Wroclaw's black earth subtypes of diversified soil textural groups. The influence of < 0.02 mm soil fractions and fractional composition of humus compounds on the amount of microelements at forming the topsoil horizons was proved. The < 0.02 mm soil fraction content showed a high positive correlation with Cu, Fe, Zn, Ni amounts, similarly the share of humic acids bound with Ca showed correlation with Cu and Fe
Skład frakcyjny próchnicy wybranych gleb leśnych Karkonoszy
This paper describes the fractions of humus compounds present in the organic and mineral horizons of the forest soils in the area of the Karkonosze Mountains. Soil profiles that represented the mountain Podzols and Dystric Cambisol were located on the northern slope along an altitude gradient from 890 to 1255 m a.s.l. Two soils were located under the spruce forest, and one in the subalpine meadow. Soil samples were taken both from the surface organic layers (the ectohumus layer) and from the mineral horizons. Fractionation of humus compounds was made using the modified Turin method. The soils had the texture of loamy sand and sandy loam, an acidic or strongly acidic reaction, low base saturation, and the predomination of aluminum among exchangeable cations. A significant increase in the fulvic fraction (Ia) with depth in the soil profiles was observed that confirmed the high mobility of this fraction in the acid mountain soils, higher in the forest soils, and lower in the meadow soils. The content of fraction I decreased generally with depth in the soil profile; however, a secondary increase was observed in an illuvial Bh horizon of the Podzols. Fulvic acids predominated over the humic acids and this predominance increased with depth in the soil profile. The ratio of the humic to the fulvic acids in fraction I in the ectohumus horizons was influenced by the composition of a biomass inflow. TheCHA:CFA ratio had the highest values under a spruce forest compared to a mixed stand and a subalpine meadow. In the surface horizons of the forest soils, a predominance of humic over fulvic acids was always observed, while in the subalpine meadow soils, the fulvic acids predominated over the humic acids in all soil horizons. Based on this study, it can be stated that the vegetation type and the dominant soil-forming process rather than simply climate factors influence the fractional composition of humus in the mountain soils of the Karkonosze Mountains
