[Colored solutions of Yang-Baxter equation from representations of U_{q}gl(2)]
We study the Hopf algebra structure and the highest weight representation of
a multiparameter version of . The commutation relations as well as
other Hopf algebra maps are explicitly given. We show that the multiparameter
universal matrix can be constructed directly as a quantum double
intertwiner, without using Reshetikhin's transformation. An interesting feature
automatically appears in the representation theory: it can be divided into two
types, one for generic , the other for being a root of unity. When
applying the representation theory to the multiparameter universal
matrix, the so called standard and nonstandard colored solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation is obtained.Comment: [14]pages, latex, no figure
Variational formulas of higher order mean curvatures
In this paper, we establish the first variational formula and its
Euler-Lagrange equation for the total -th mean curvature functional
of a submanifold in a general Riemannian manifold
for . As an example, we prove that closed
complex submanifolds in complex projective spaces are critical points of the
functional , called relatively -minimal submanifolds,
for all . At last, we discuss the relations between relatively -minimal
submanifolds and austere submanifolds in real space forms, as well as a special

Statistical description of small quantum systems beyond weak-coupling limit
An explicit expression is derived for the statistical description of small
quantum systems, which are relatively-weakly and directly coupled to only small
parts of their environments. The derived expression has a canonical form, but
is given by a renormalized self-Hamiltonian of the studied system, which
appropriately takes into account the influence of the system-environment
interaction. In the case that the system has a narrow spectrum and the
environment is sufficiently large, the modification to the self-Hamiltonian
usually has a mean-field feature, given by an environmental average of the
interaction Hamiltonian. In other cases, the modification may be beyond the

Spin photocurrent, its spectra dependence, and current-induced spin polarization in an InGaAs/InAlAs two-dimensional electron gas
Converse effect of spin photocurrent and current induced spin polarization
are experimentally demonstrated in the same two-dimensional electron gas system
with Rashba spin splitting. Their consistency with the strength of the Rashba
coupling as measured from beating of the Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations reveals
a unified picture for the spin photocurrent, current-induced spin polarization
and spin orbit coupling. In addition, the observed spectral inversion of the
spin photocurrent indicates the system with dominating structure inversion

Suppression of Heating Rates in Cryogenic Surface-Electrode Ion Traps
Dense arrays of trapped ions provide one way of scaling up ion trap quantum
information processing. However, miniaturization of ion traps is currently
limited by sharply increasing motional state decoherence at sub-100 um
ion-electrode distances. We characterize heating rates in cryogenically cooled
surface-electrode traps, with characteristic sizes in 75 um to 150 um range.
Upon cooling to 6 K, the measured rates are suppressed by 7 orders of
magnitude, two orders of magnitude below previously published data of similarly
sized traps operated at room temperature. The observed noise depends strongly
on fabrication process, which suggests further improvements are possible.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Cosmic Parallax in Ellipsoidal Universe
The detection of a time variation of the angle between two distant sources
would reveal an anisotropic expansion of the Universe. We study this effect of
"cosmic parallax" within the "ellipsoidal universe" model, namely a particular
homogeneous anisotropic cosmological model of Bianchi type I, whose attractive
feature is the potentiality to account for the observed lack of power of the
large-scale cosmic microwave background anisotropy. The preferred direction in
the sky, singled out by the axis of symmetry inherent to planar symmetry of
ellipsoidal universe, could in principle be constrained by future cosmic
parallax data. However, that will be a real possibility if and when the
