More about the Wilsonian analysis on the pionless NEFT

We extend our Wilsonian renormalization group (RG) analysis on the pionless nuclear effective theory (NEFT) in the two-nucleon sector in two ways; on the one hand, (1) we enlarge the space of operators up to including those of O(p4)\mathcal{O}(p^4) in the SS waves, and, on the other hand, (2) we consider the RG flows in higher partial waves (PP and DD waves). In the larger space calculations, we find, in addition to nontrivial fixed points, two ``fixed lines'' and a ``fixed surface'' which are related to marginal operators. In the higher partial wave calculations, we find similar phase structures to that of the SS waves, but there are \textit{two} relevant directions in the PP waves at the nontrivial fixed points and \textit{three} in the DD waves. We explain the physical meaning of the PP-wave phase structure by explicitly calculating the low-energy scattering amplitude. We also discuss the relation between the Legendre flow equation which we employ and the RG equation by Birse, McGovern, and Richardson, and possible implementation of Power Divergence Subtraction (PDS) in higher partial waves.Comment: 39 pages, 5 figures, the final versio

    Performance of a micro-TPC for a time-resolved neutron PSD

We report on the performance of a micro-TPC with a micro pixel chamber(μ\mu-PIC) readout for a time-resolved neutron position-sensitive detector(PSD). Three-dimensional tracks and the Bragg curves of protons with energies of around 1 MeV were clearly detected by the micro-TPC. More than 95% of gamma-rays of 511 keV were found to be discriminated by simple analysis. Simulation studies showed that the total track length of proton and triton emitted from the 3He\rm {}^{3}He(n,p(573 keV))3H(191keV)\rm {}^{3}H(191 keV) reaction is about 1.2 cm, and that both particles have large energy losses (>200keV/cm\rm > 200 keV/cm) in 1 atm Ar+C2H6(10\rm C_{2}H_{6}(10%)+3{}^{3}He(<1< 1%). These values suit the current performance of the micro-TPC, and we conclude that a time-resolved neutron PSD with spatial resolution of sub-millimeters shall be developed as an application of the micro-TPC.Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures, to appear in NIM

Gastric Hyperplastic Polyp Associated with Proliferation of Xanthoma Cells Observed by Magnification Narrow-Band Imaging Endoscopy

A case of gastric hyperplastic polyp with proliferation of xanthoma cells is reported. The patient was a 69-year-old man who visited our hospital for further evaluation of gastric polyps. Endoscopic examination of the upper digestive tract revealed multiple hyperplastic polyps in the gastric antrum. There was a pedunculated polyp with whitish yellow granules, 7 mm in diameter, arising from the greater curvature of the antrum. Magnification narrow-band imaging endoscopy (GIF-H260Z, Olympus) revealed long microcapillaries in the polyp but did not reveal disappearance of the mucosal microstructure or irregular branched capillaries. Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) was performed. Histological examination of the specimen revealed the lengthened gastric foveolae in the superficial portion and tight sheet of foamy histiocytes in the lamina propria. Diagnosis of gastric hyperplastic polyp with proliferation of xanthoma cells was made. There was no evidence of malignancy. It is necessary to know that a gastric hyperplastic polyp may associate with gastric xanthoma, although such association is very rare

REAL-TIME ONE-PASS DECODING WITH RECURRENT NEURAL NETWORK LANGUAGE MODEL FOR SPEECH RECOGNITION

This paper proposes an efficient one-pass decoding method for realtime speech recognition employing a recurrent neural network language model (RNNLM). An RNNLM is an effective language model that yields a large gain in recognition accuracy when it is combined with a standard n-gram model. However, since every word probability distribution based on an RNNLM is dependent on the entire history from the beginning of the speech, the search space in Viterbi decoding grows exponentially with the length of the recognition hypotheses and makes computation prohibitively expensive. Therefore, an RNNLM is usually used by N-best rescoring or by approximating it to a back-off n-gram model. In this paper, we present another approach that enables one-pass Viterbi decoding with an RNNLM without approximation, where the RNNLM is represented as a prefix tree of possible word sequences, and only the part needed for decoding is generated on-the-fly and used to rescore each hypothesis using an on-the-fly composition technique we previously proposed. Experimental results on the MIT lecture transcription task show that our proposed method enables one-pass decoding with small overhead for the RNNLM and achieves a slightly higher accuracy than 1000-best rescoring. Furthermore, it reduces the latency from the end of each utterance in two-pass decoding by a factor of 10. Micro-TPC, a time projection chamber(TPC) with micro pixel chamber(μ\mu-PIC) readout was developed for the detection of the three-dimensional fine(sub-m illimeter) tracks of charged particles. We developed a two-dimensional position sensitive gaseous detector, or the μ\mu-PIC, with the detection area of 10×\times10 cm2{}^{2} and 65536 anode electrodes of 400 μ\mum pitch. We achieved the gas gain of over 10000 without any other multipliers. With the pipe-line readout system specially developed for the μ\mu-PIC, we detected X-rays at the rate as high as 7.7 Mcps. We attached a drift cage with an 8 cm drift length to the μ\mu-PIC and developed a micro-TPC. We measured the basic performances of the micro-TPC and took three-dimensional tracks of electrons. We also developed a prototype of the MeV gamma-ray imaging detector which is a hybrid of the micro-TPC and NaI(Tl) scintillators and confirmed its concept by reconstructing the obtained data.Comment: 6 pages 16 figures, submitted for IEEE/TNS 200

Numerical Study on 3-Dimensional Behavior of a Damaged Pile Foundation during the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu Earthquake

The purpose of this study is to investigate the process of the damage to a pile foundation located on a reclaimed land during the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake. A 3-dimensional effective stress analysis using a soil-pile-building model was conducted on a damaged building. The five stories building tilted in a northeast direction because of serious damages to the pile foundations. Sand boils and ground settlements due to liquefaction were observed around the building. The simulated results showed that the reclaimed fill layer liquefied during the earthquake, and horizontal displacements of several tens centimeters occurred at the ground surface. The spatial distributions of the damages to piles were discussed through the 3-dimensional simulation. Consequently, the simulated failure direction of piles was associated with the observed direction of building inclination. The simulation qualitatively reproduced that the most serious damage of PHC piles occurred at the northeast footing among the footings located on the building corners

The therapeutic effects of Rho-ROCK inhibitors on CNS disorders

    Get PDF
Rho-kinase (ROCK) is a serine/threonine kinase and one of the major downstream effectors of the small GTPase Rho. The Rho-ROCK pathway is involved in many aspects of neuronal functions including neurite outgrowth and retraction. The Rho-ROCK pathway becomes an attractive target for the development of drugs for treating central nervous system (CNS) disorders, since it has been recently revealed that this pathway is closely related to the pathogenesis of several CNS disorders such as spinal cord injuries, stroke, and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In the adult CNS, injured axons regenerate poorly due to the presence of myelin-associated axonal growth inhibitors such as myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG), Nogo, oligodendrocyte-myelin glycoprotein (OMgp), and the recently identified repulsive guidance molecule (RGM). The effects of these inhibitors are reversed by blockade of the Rho-ROCK pathway in vitro, and the inhibition of this pathway promotes axonal regeneration and functional recovery in the injured CNS in vivo. In addition, the therapeutic effects of the Rho-ROCK inhibitors have been demonstrated in animal models of stroke. In this review, we summarize the involvement of the Rho-ROCK pathway in CNS disorders such as spinal cord injuries, stroke, and AD and also discuss the potential of Rho-ROCK inhibitors in the treatment of human CNS disorders

Unusual abscesses associated with colon cancer: report of three cases

    Get PDF
Three cases of colon cancer accompanied by unusual abscess formation are reported. Case I : A 77-year-old man was diagnosed with a paracolic abscess formation behind the cecum and a swollen appendix by computed tomography (CT) scan. Case II : An 85-year-old woman was diagnosed with an abscess formation of the right iliopsoas muscle, a swollen appendix, and a thickened right colon wall by CT scan. After antibiotic therapy failed, both patients underwent ileocecal resection urgently under suspicion of appendicitis, but cecal cancer around the entrance to the appendix caused secondary appendicitis in both cases. Case III : A 50-year-old woman was diagnosed with sigmoid colon cancer with an abscess formation in the pelvic cavity concomitant with ovarian tumor. A Hartmann procedure was performed, and a pathological examination revealed that a subserosal abscess behind the sigmoid colon cancer perforated the rectum with abscess formation. All cases were definitively diagnosed intraoperatively. The cancer recurred in cases I and III. We emphasize that precise surgical evaluation has an important role in the diagnosis of these complicated diseases. In addition, surgery affords the patient the best chance of recovery, and in these advanced cases radical treatment is recommended as early as possible
