    Qualified difference sets from unions of cyclotomic classes

    Qualified difference sets (QDS) composed of unions of cyclotomic classes are discussed. An exhaustive computer search for such QDS and modified QDS that also possess the zero residue has been conducted for all powers n=4,6,8 and 10. Two new families were discovered in the case n=8 and some new isolated systems were discovered for n=6 and n=10

    Developing thoughts about what might have been

    Recent research has changed how developmental psychologists understand counterfactual thinking or thoughts of what might have been. Evidence suggests that counterfactual thinking develops over an extended period into at least middle childhood, depends on domain-general processes including executive function and language, and dissociates from counterfactual emotions such as regret. In this article, we review the developmental evidence that forms a critical but often-overlooked complement to the cognitive, social, and neuroscience literatures. We also highlight topics for further research, including spontaneous counterfactual thinking and counterfactual thinking in clinical settings. © 2014 The Society for Research in Child Development

    Forecasting and Intercepting the 28 May 2013 Bennington, KS Tornadic Supercell: A Student Perspective

    This project examines the 28 May 2013 mesoscale case over north-central Kansas and focuses on the step-by-step process from a student perspective. The project describes the tools, models, parameters, and observations used to determine the focus for the day, including a classic loaded-gun sounding measured and observed by the field team. The decisions made by the team on this day placed them in position to observe an EF-3 tornado near Bennington, Kansas. The main goal of the project is to educate students about how to forecast and safely observe severe weather events through a how-to-guide compiled from experiences in the Valparaiso University Meteorology Department program, Severe Convective Storms Field Study. The project will demonstrate how to apply the knowledge from the course to a real-time, in the field, forecast. Although forecasting is not an exact science just yet, the guide will help educate future students and others on how to utilize various tools and techniques in order to accurately forecast for convective weather
