    Intramuscular Hemangioma of the Temporalis Muscle With Incidental Finding of Bilateral Symmetric Calcification of the Basal Ganglia: A Case Report

    We report an 11-year-old boy whose brain computed tomography findings incidentally revealed bilateral basal ganglia calcification. He was symptom-free and had no abnormal neurological findings. He was diagnosed with Fahr's disease based on radiological findings and after excluding other etiologies such as infection, metabolic disorders, congenital malformation and malignancies. Most of the reported cases display an autosomal dominant mode of inheritance. Although Fahr's disease is a rare cause of basal ganglia calcification in children, this disease should be considered in children with a family history of neuropsychiatric disorders

    Burglarproof WEP Protocol on Wireless Infrastructure

    With the popularization of wireless network, security issue is more and more important. When IEEE 802.11i draft proposed TKIP, it is expected to improve WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) on both active and passive attack methods. Especially in generating and management of secret keys, TKIP uses more deliberative attitude to distribute keys. Besides, it just upgrades software to accomplish these functions without changing hardware equipments. However, implementing TKIP on the exiting equipment, the transmission performance is decreased dramatically. This article presents a new scheme, Burglarproof WEP Protocol (BWP), that encrypt WEP key twice to improve the security drawbacks of original WEP, and have better performance on transmission. The proposed method is focus on modifying encryption sets to improve the low performance of TKIP, and provides better transmission rate without losing security anticipations base on current hardware configuration

    Quantum Impurity in Luttinger Liquid: Universal Conductance with Entanglement Renormalization

    We study numerically the universal conductance of Luttinger liquids wire with a single impurity via the Muti-scale Entanglement Renormalization Ansatz (MERA). The scale invariant MERA provides an efficient way to extract scaling operators and scaling dimensions for both the bulk and the boundary conformal field theories. By utilizing the key relationship between the conductance tensor and ground-state correlation function, the universal conductance can be evaluated within the framework of the boundary MERA. We construct the boundary MERA to compute the correlation functions and scaling dimensions for the Kane-Fisher fixed points by modeling the single impurity as a junction (weak link) of two interacting wires. We show that the universal behavior of the junction can be easily identified within the MERA and argue that the boundary MERA framework has tremendous potential to classify the fixed points in general multi-wire junctions.Comment: 14 pages, 18 figure

    We present preliminary results of a study on the non-thermal phase structure of the (1+1) dimensional massive Thirring model, employing the method of matrix product states.     Chern dartboard insulator: sub-Brillouin zone topology and skyrmion multipoles

    Topology plays a crucial role in many physical systems, leading to interesting states at the surface. The paradigmatic example is the Chern number defined in the Brillouin zone that leads to the robust gapless edge states. Here we introduce the reduced Chern number, defined in subregions of the Brillouin zone (BZ), and construct a family of Chern dartboard insulators (CDIs) with quantized reduced Chern numbers in the sub-BZ (sBZ) but with trivial bulk topology. CDIs are protected by mirror symmetries and exhibit distinct pseudospin textures, including (anti)skyrmions, inside the sBZ. These CDIs host exotic gapless edge states, such as M\"{o}bius fermions and midgap corner states, and can be realized in photonic crystals. Our work opens up new possibilities for exploring sBZ topology and nontrivial surface responses in topological systems

    Deduced probable HLA-B*40:01:35-associated HLA haplotype (A*24-B*40:01:35-DRB1*11) found in a Taiwanese unrelated hematopoietic bone marrow stem cell donor

    AbstractObjectiveHuman leukocyte antigen (HLA)-B*40:01:35 is a low incidence allele in the HLA-B locus. The objective of this study is to report the ethnicity of B*40:01:35 and its deduced probable HLA associated haplotype in a Taiwanese unrelated bone marrow hematopoietic stem cell donor.Materials and methodsA sequence-based typing method was employed to confirm the low incidence allele B*40:01:35. Polymerase chain reaction was performed to amplify exons 2 and 3 of the HLA-A and HLA-B loci and exon 2 of the HLA-DRB1 locus using group-specific primer sets. The amplicons were sequenced using the BigDye Terminator Cycle Sequencing Ready Reaction kit in both directions according to the manufacturer's protocols.ResultsThe DNA sequence of B*40:01:35 is identical to B*40:01:01 in exons 2 and 3, except for residue 324 where C is changed to T (codon 84, TAC→TAT). The nucleotide exchange does not cause amino acid alteration to the protein sequence of B*40:01:01 due to the silent mutation. We deduced the probable HLA haplotype in association with B*40:01:35 in Taiwanese to be A*24-B*40:01:35-DRB1*11.ConclusionInformation on the deduced probable HLA haplotype in association with the low incidence B*40:01:35 allele that we report here is of value for HLA testing laboratories for reference purposes. In addition, it can be used by stem cell transplantation donor search coordinators to determine a strategy for finding compatible donors in unrelated bone marrow donor registries when a patient has this uncommon HLA allele

    Downloading unauthorized music file is deemed illegal and immoral, but the peer-to-peer systems have boosted its popularity. Many authors attributed this phenomenon to the low morality of Internet users, but inconclusive evidence to this argument was found. Extant literature seldom noticed that downloading music files is a new mean of music consumption. People, especially young generation, might rationally choose between downloading music files and buying CDs for greater utility for enjoying and pursuing after the fashion of music. This paper presents a conceptual model of file downloading by looking at and integrating these perspectives. An analysis of 834 samples drew from a questionnaire survey of P2P users in Taiwan generally supports the above assertion
