Preparation of Palladium-Supported Periodic Mesoporous Organosilicas and their Use as Catalysts in the Suzuki Cross-Coupling Reaction
Three periodic mesoporous materials, i.e., two organosilicas with either ethylene
or phenylene bridges and one silica, have been used as supports for Pd nanoparticles. All
Pd-supported samples (1.0 wt%) were prepared by the incipient wetness method and
subsequently reduced in an H2 stream at 200 °C. Both hydrogen chemisorption and
temperature programmed reduction experiments revealed significant differences depending
on the support. Pd2+ species were more reducible on the mesoporous organosilicas than on
their silica counterpart. Also, remarkable differences on the particle morphology were
observed by transmission electron microscopy. All Pd-supported samples were active in
the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction between bromobenzene and phenylboronic aci

“To be myself again”: Perceived benefits of group-based exercise for colorectal cancer patients.
Purpose: To explore the perceived benefits of a group-based exercise program for patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
Methods: In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with all participants (n = 25) at the end of the exercise program (patients, relatives and healthcare professionals). The exercise instructor in charge of the exercise program with CRC patients also collected observational field notes throughout a research diary.
Results: Three main themes related to exercise as a coping strategy were obtained: (a) physical recovery; (b) psychosocial well-being, and (c) reconnection with their embodied selves and normal lives. Physical recovery included a perceived increase in fitness and a reduction in physical side-effects. Psychosocial well-being included perceived benefits in self-confidence, sense of control, reduced fear, feeling of being useful, sense of achievement, positive thinking and avoiding depression. All the physical and psychosocial benefits helped patients reconnect with their embodied selves, engage in activities practised before the diagnoses, improve their body image, avoid stigma, and increase their social life beyond cancer diagnoses. In this sense, some patients held on to their past selves, trying to keep or recover normality in their lives, while others acknowledged that they might not be the same person anymore, with exercise being part of this new identity.
Conclusions: This study shows that exercise is a coping strategy that benefitted CRC patients in several ways related to their physical and psychosocial quality of life
Influence of a Concurrent Exercise Training Intervention during Pregnancy on Maternal and Arterial and Venous Cord Serum Cytokines: The GESTAFIT Project
The aim of the present study was to analyze the influence of a supervised concurrent exercise-training program, from the 17th gestational week until delivery, on cytokines in maternal (at 17th and 35th gestational week, and at delivery) and arterial and venous cord serum. Fifty-eight Caucasian pregnant women (age: 33.5 +/- 4.7 years old, body mass index: 23.6 +/- 4.1kg/m(2)) from the GESTAFIT Project (exercise (n = 37) and control (n = 21) groups) participated in this quasi-experimental study (per-protocol basis). The exercise group followed a 60-min 3 days/week concurrent (aerobic-resistance) exercise-training from the 17th gestational week to delivery. Maternal and arterial and venous cord serum cytokines (fractalkine, interleukin (IL)-1 beta, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, interferon (IFN)-gamma, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha) were assessed using Luminex xMAP technology. In maternal serum (after adjusting for the baseline values of cytokines), the exercise group decreased TNF-alpha (from baseline to 35th week, p = 0.02), and increased less IL-1 beta (from baseline to delivery, p = 0.03) concentrations than controls. When adjusting for other potential confounders, these differences became non-significant. In cord blood, the exercise group showed reduced arterial IL-6 and venous TNF-alpha (p = 0.03 and p = 0.001, respectively) and higher concentrations of arterial IL-1 beta (p = 0.03) compared to controls. The application of concurrent exercise-training programs could be a strategy to modulate immune responses in pregnant women and their fetuses. However, future research is needed to better understand the origin and clearance of these cytokines, their role in the maternal-placental-fetus crosstalk, and the influence of exercise interventions on them
Anxiety, Distress and Stress among Patients with Diabetes during COVID-19 Pandemic: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
The prevalence of mental health disorders has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Patients with chronic diseases, such as diabetes, are a particularly vulnerable risk group. This study
aims to assess the levels and prevalence of anxiety, distress, and stress in patients with diabetes during
the COVID-19 pandemic. A systematic review was conducted in CINAHL, Cochrane, LILACS,
Medline, SciELO, and Scopus in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic
Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. Thirty-seven articles with a total of 13,932 diabetic
patients were included. Five meta-analyses were performed. The prevalence of anxiety was
23% (95% CI = 19–28) in T1DM and 20% (95% CI = 6–40) in T2DM patients. For diabetes distress
it was 41% (95% CI = 24–60) for T1DM and 36% in T2DM patients (95% CI = 2–84). For stress,
the prevalence was 79% (95% CI = 49–98) in T1DM patients. People with diabetes have significant
psychiatric comorbidity as well as psychological factors that negatively affect disease management,
increasing their vulnerability in an emergency situation. To establish comprehensive care in diabetic
patients addressing mental health is essential, as well as including specific policy interventions to
reduce the potential psychological harm of the COVID-19 pandemic
Continuity of Nursing Care in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease: A Systematic Review
Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death worldwide and patient continuity
of care is essential. Health professionals can help in the transition stage by providing resources to
achieve pharmacological treatment adherence, as well as social and emotional support. The objective
was to analyse the effects of nursing interventions based on continuity of care in patients with
coronary artery disease after hospital discharge. A systematic review of randomised controlled trials
and quasi-experimental studies was carried out. Cochrane, CINAHL, Health & medical collection,
Medline, and Scopus databases were consulted in January 2022. PRISMA guidelines were followed
with no time limits. In total, 16 articles were included with a total of 2950 patients. Nurse-led
continuity of care programs improved the monitoring and control of the disease. Positive effects
were found in the quality of life of patients, and in mental health, self-efficacy, and self-care capacity
dimensions. Clinical parameters such as blood pressure and lipid levels decreased. The continuity
of care provided by nurses had a positive influence on the quality of life of patients with coronary
artery disease. Nurse-led care focused on the needs and resources, including continuity of care, plays
a key role
Explanatory Models of Burnout Diagnosis Based on Personality Factors and Depression in Managing Nurses
This study forms part of the Doctoral Thesis of the first-named author (Maria Jose Membrive-Jimenez).
Funding for this study was provided by the Andalusian Government Excellence Project (P11-HUM-7771).Nurse managers are affected by burnout due to the high degree of interaction between
managers with their registered nurses. Explanatory models based on psychological, and personality
related variables purvey an estimation to level changes in the three dimensions of the burnout
syndrome. A categorical-response logistic ordinal regression model, supported on a quantitative,
crosscutting, multicentre, descriptive study with 86 nursing managers in the Andalusian Health
Service in Granada, Spain is performed for each dimension. The three models included different
variables related to personality, as well as depression as the only explanatory variable included in all
the models. The risk factor neuroticism was significant at population level and related to emotional
exhaustion, whilst responsibility was significant in the model estimated to personal accomplishment
dimension. Finally, depression was significant for the three dimensions of Burnout. This analysis
provides useful information to help the diagnosis and evolution of this syndrome in this collective.Andalusian Government Excellence Project P11-HUM-777
