Recognizing Surgically Altered Face Images and 3D Facial Expression Recognition

    Get PDF
AbstractAltering Facial appearances using surgical procedures are common now days. But it raised challenges for face recognition algorithms. Plastic surgery introduces non linear variations. Because of these variations it is difficult to be modeled by the existing face recognition system. Here presents a multi objective evolutionary granular algorithm. It operates on several granules extracted from a face images at multiple level of granularity. This granular information is unified in an evolutionary manner using multi objective genetic approach. Then identify the facial expression from the face images. For that 3D facial shapes are considering here. A novel automatic feature selection method is proposed based on maximizing the average relative entropy of marginalized class-conditional feature distributions and apply it to a complete pool of candidate features composed of normalized Euclidian distances between 83 facial feature points in the 3D space. A regularized multi-class AdaBoost classification algorithm is used here to get the highest average recognition rate

    Trans-genders in Literature

    Get PDF
We all know that the human race appeared thousands of years ago. Transgenders also appeared at the time when the human race appeared.  What would they have been like?  What is their history?  All these things can be known through literature. Our literary sources, which tell the history of the human race, also talks about the history of transsexuals. An epic is a genre of narrative that states the four things of virtue, wealth, pleasure, and family.  In these epics we find references to transgender people and can learn that the trans-genders have been helping the king in the palaces and serving as servants

    Get PDF
Background: Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are multipotent stem cells, derived from bone marrow, peripheral blood and umbilical cord. These HSC are accepted method of treatment for various disorders. Cord blood can be stored either in private or public bank. Awareness about cord blood banking among semi urban and rural population is less compared to urban population. The aim of our study is to evaluate the awareness of cord blood banking among pregnant women in semi urban area and to evaluate their willingness for donating to public blood bank. Methods: This is a cross sectional study done among 365 pregnant women attending antenatal OPD in Obstetrics and Gynecology department of SMVMCH, Puducherry. Results: Forty five percent of pregnant women had knowledge about uses of umbilical cord blood usage during pregnancy. Only 5 % of pregnant women knew about cost of stem cell storage. Less than 1% knew about availability of public cord blood banking. After informing about availability of public cord blood storage 72% of pregnant women were willing to donate to public bank. Conclusions: Knowledge about cord blood banking is lacking among pregnant women. Especially majority of them are unaware of public cord blood banking. Private banking will be useful for those with family members affected with diseases amenable to HSC transplantation. More support from government and private organizations are required, which will help in better functioning of public cord blood bank services

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding is most commonly encountered in 10-20% of women in reproductive age.  The objectives of the study are to assess the proportion and association with causes and postoperative outcome of preoperative anaemia and obesity in women with abnormal uterine bleeding who underwent hysterectomy. Methods: This was a retrospective observational record-based study conducted in the Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital(SMVMCH), Pondicherry. The study population consisted of 169 patients who were admitted for abnormal uterine bleeding and underwent hysterectomy from January 2016 to December 2016 for a period of one year. Results: The mean age was 43years.The mean value of haemoglobin on admission was 9.89g/dl. The distribution frequencies of patients by WHO BMI classification as underweight, normal, overweight and obesity are 8, 59, 78 and 24 respectively. The distribution frequencies of patients by WHO anaemia classification as no anaemia, mild, moderate are 34, 37 and 98 respectively. Seventy-six patients had blood transfusion. Six patients had urinary tract infection and all of them were anaemic and obese. Two patients had developed respiratory tract infection and none of the patients had developed deep vein thrombosis.  Conclusions: Preoperative anaemia was more common in patients with fibroid and associated with increased morbidity in immediate postoperative period. There is more prevalence of SSI among overweight and obese women

Probiotic activity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PIC-4) isolated from Visakhapatnam coast, Bay of Bengal, India, against Vibrio harveyi in Penaeus monodon

Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PIC 4), isolated from coastal waters of Visakhapatnam (Gen Bank Accession no: KF803248) was tested for its antagonistic activity against Vibrio harveyi as probiotic in cultured Penaeus monodon. Pseudomonas aeruginosa PIC 4 has proved to be non-pathogenic to the shrimp by pathogenicity tests. Vibrio counts in probiotic fed shrimp and the surrounding water medium were significantly lower when compared to the control group of shrimp and water during 50 days of culture. Mean weight of probiont fed shrimps after 50 days of culture was (2.21 + 0.15 g) , significantly higher than that of normal diet fed ones (1.33+0.18 g). Survival percent was also significantly higher in probiont fed shrimp (47.33% + 5.55%) than that of the control diet fed shrimp (26.33% + 7%). Percent survival in probiotic fed and normal diet fed shrimp after the challenge with V. harveyi was 93.04 and 38.87 respectively

Investigations were carried out on the bacterial flora of water and the quality of rotifers in outdoor mass culture tanks. Brachionus plicatilis and B. rotundiformis were cultured in 10 numbers of 1 tonne tanks and the physico-chemical parameters and microbial loads of water, and total bacterial and Vibrio loads of microalgae and rotifers, during the period 2014-15, were studied. The study revealed a significant variation of the ammonia levels and total bacterial loads with different diets (P < 0.05). A positive correlation was observed between the total bacterial loads of algal concentrations and loads of rotifers, but no correlation was observed between Vibrio loads of water and rotifers. The prevalence of Vibrio loads of rotifers was low in tanks fed with Nannochloropsis oculata and maximum Vibrio loads were recorded in Chaetoceros calcitrans fed rotifers. The Vibrio loads significantly varied with days of culture and also with the algal diets. A positive correlation was observed between the total Vibrio loads of water and rotifers

Background: Hysterectomy is one of the most common surgical procedures performed by the gynaecologist.  It can be performed by vaginal and abdominal route. Gynaecologic surgeons worldwide continue to use the abdominal approach for a large majority of hysterectomies that could be performed vaginally despite well-documented evidence that vaginal hysterectomy has better outcome. Aim of our study is to compare vaginal route versus abdominal route of hysterectomy in terms of intra operative and post operative complications. Methods: A retrospective study was done in 229 women who had undergone hysterectomy (176 abdominal hysterectomies and 53 vaginal hysterectomies) from January 2010 to July 2012. Information on the indications, operative procedures, and complications were extracted and analysed. Results: The mean duration of surgery in VH group was 79.6 min and that of TAH group was 99.2 min. The mean blood loss was also more in case of TAH group than that of VH group (215ml vs. 167ml). Bladder injury occurred in 1 case in VH (1.9%) and in 4 cases in TAH (2.3%). Ureter injury occurred in 1(0.6%) case in TAH group. Wound infection developed in 10 cases of TAH group whereas only one case in VH group developed vault infection. Conclusions: Vaginal hysterectomy is associated with quicker recovery, early mobilization, shorter hospitalization, less operative and post operative morbidity when compared to abdominal hysterectomy
