QCD, diffraction and string theory
Recently, string theory on some specific curved backgroud spacetime
geometries has been conjectured to be equivalent to certain gauge theories
(AdS/CFT correspondence). This correspondence may be used to investigate the
non-perturbative regime of gauge theories. I describe its application to the
study of soft scattering amplitudes in a confining gauge theory. I describe two
qualitatively different applications: amplitudes with vacuum quantum number
exchange (Pomeron-like), amplitudes with Reggeon exchange. The last case
requires going beyond eikonal approximation on the gauge theory side.Comment: 5 pages. Presented at the 10th International Workshop on Deep

The Lund Model at Nonzero Impact Parameter
We extend the formulation of the longitudinal 1+1 dimensional Lund model to
nonzero impact parameter using the minimal area assumption. Complete formulae
for the string breaking probability and the momenta of the produced mesons are
derived using the string worldsheet Minkowskian helicoid geometry. For strings
stretched into the transverse dimension, we find probability distribution with
slope linear in m_T similar to the statistical models but without any
thermalization assumptions.Comment: 12 pages, 2 .eps figures, footnotes added, results unchanged, version

Critical Scaling at Zero Virtuality in QCD
We show that at the critical point of chiral random matrix models, novel
scaling laws for the inverse moments of the eigenvalues are expected. We
evaluate explicitly the pertinent microscopic spectral density, and found it in
agreement with numerical calculations. We suggest that similar sum rules are of
relevance to QCD at the critical temperature, and even above if the transition
is amenable to a Landau-Ginzburg description.Comment: 4 pages with 3 eps figures included; small changes, typos correcte
Chiral Disorder in Two-Color QCD with Abelian External Fluxes
We investigate the effects of several Abelian external fluxes , on the
Euclidean Dirac spectrum of light quarks in QCD with two colors. Our results
provide for a novel way of assessing the pion weak decay constant directly from
spectral fluctuations, and discriminating a flux-rich from a flux-poor vacuum,
using QCD lattice simulations.Comment: LATTICE99, 3 pages with espcrc2 style include
From nesting to dressing
In integrable field theories the S-matrix is usually a product of a
relatively simple matrix and a complicated scalar factor. We make an
observation that in many relativistic integrable field theories the scalar
factor can be expressed as a convolution of simple kernels appearing in the
nested levels of the nested Bethe ansatz. We formulate a proposal, up to some
discrete ambiguities, how to reconstruct the scalar factor from the nested
Bethe equations and check it for several relativistic integrable field
theories. We then apply this proposal to the AdS asymptotic Bethe ansatz and
recover the dressing factor in the integral representation of Dorey, Hofman and
Maldacena.Comment: 23 pages, no figures; v2: small improvements, references adde
