Noncompliance a major threat in fisheries management-Experiences from the artisanal coastal fisheries of Bangladesh
Non-compliance with regulation is a major problem that undermines the effectiveness of the coastal fisheries management in Bangladesh. The result of non-compliance with regulation is over fishing, resource depletion, habitat degradation and resource use conflicts. From a management perspective, it is important to examine the level and causes of non-compliance and explore policies for encouraging or securing compliance. An attempt has been made in this study to investigate these issues in the case of the marine fisheries of Bangladesh. The specific area of interest is the mesh size regulation. Result showed an absolute violation of the mesh size regulation. The study found that the opportunity of getting higher catches and economic returns, weak enforcement, influence of the social environment, ignorance about the law and limited livelihood opportunities are the main causes behind the noncompliance of the fishers with respect to mesh size regulation.Noncompliance, Estuarine Set Bag Net, Marine Set Bag Net, Small Mesh Drift Net, Coastal fisheries, Policies for compliance management, Co-management, Bangladesh.
Evaluation of Banking Sector’s Development in Bangladesh in light of Financial Reform
Historically, the performance of the banking sector has been weak, characterized by weak asset quality, inadequate provisioning, and negative capitalization of state-owned banks. To overcome these problems, the initial phase of banking reform (1980-1990) focused on the promotion of private ownership and denationalization of nationalized commercial banks (SCBs). During the second phase of reform, Financial Sector Reform Project (FSRP) of World Bank was launched in 1990 with the focus on gradual deregulations of the interest rate structure, providing market-oriented incentives for priority sector lending and improvement in the debt recovery environment. Moreover, a large number of private commercial banks were granted licenses during the second phase of reforms. Bangladesh Bank adopted Basel-I norms in 1996 and Basel-II during 2010. Moreover, the Central Bank Strengthening Project initiated in 2003 focused on effective regulatory and supervisory system, particularly strengthening the legal framework of banking sector. This study evaluates how successfully the banking sector of Bangladesh has evolved over the past decades in light of financial reform measures undertaken to strengthen this sector. Aquaculture technologies in Bangladesh: an assessment of technical and economic performance and producer behavior
This study evaluates the performance of a wide range of aquaculture systems in Bangladesh. It is by far the largest of its kind attempted to date. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the most important production systems, rather than to provide a nationally representative overview of the entire aquaculture sector of Bangladesh. As such, the study yields a huge amount of new information on production technologies that have never been thoroughly researched before. The study reveals an extremely diverse array of specialized, dynamic and rapidly evolving production technologies, adapted to a variety of market niches and local environmental conditions. This is a testament to the innovativeness of farmers and other value chain actors who have been the principal drivers of this development in Bangladesh. Data was collected from six geographical hubs. This survey was conducted from November 2011 to June 2012. Technological performance in terms of detailed input and output information, fish management practices, credit and marketing, and social and environmental issues were captured by the survey questionnaire, which had both open and closed format questions. The study generated insights that enable better understanding of aquaculture development in Bangladesh

Dynamic task scheduling algorithms in cloud computing
Cloud computing refers to dynamically scalable infrastructure and virtualizes resources that allow the application to fulfil infinite demands with inexpensive and reliable services. Therefore, the service provider has to serve a large number of tasks. For elegant service to the tasks, there is a need for an efficient scheduling algorithm. Many algorithms have been developed for scheduling. However, most of the developed algorithm has conflicting objectives and its own limitation. Thus, one is efficient for one type of tasks at the same time inefficient to other kinds of tasks. In this paper, we have proposed a strategy which allocates the algorithms according to the type of task and reduces the conflicting objectives. We have analyzed a number of algorithms such as First Come First Serve (FCFS), Shortest Job First (SJF), Round Robin (RR), Max-Min, Min-Min. Finally, we have shown our proposed strategy which reduces the limitation of other algorithms, the tradeoff between the average waiting time and makespan.</p
Genetic testing for Huntington's Disease in Parkinsonism
The study was conducted to find out Huntington's disease (HD) by genetic analysis from those presenting with parkinsonism in the Neurology department of Mymensingh Medical College & Hospital. A sample of about 5ml blood was collected by veni puncture in EDTA tube with informed consent from 9 patients & 7 healthy individuals after approval of the institutional ethics committee for genetic study. The neurological disorder along with a complete history and physical findings were recorded in a prescribed questionnaire by the neurologists of Mymensingh Medical College & Hospital. Extraction of genomic DNA from the venous blood using FlexiGene DNA kit (Qiagen, Japan) was performed in Faculty of Veterinary Science, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. The extracted DNA was stored and accumulated and then these DNA were sent to Division of Clinical Genetics, Department of Medical Genetics, Osaka University Medical School, Suita, Osaka 565 0871, Japan for PCR and further analysis. PCR amplification of the CAG repeat in the 1T15 gene was performed with primers HD1 and HD3. HD PCR products revealed the DNA product of about 110bp (no. of CAG repeats=21) to 150bp (no. of CAG repeats=34) in both healthy individual and suspected PD patient DNA
