Systematics of collective correlation energies from self-consistent mean-field calculations
The collective ground-state correlations stemming from low-lying quadrupole
excitations are computed microscopically. To that end, the self-consistent
mean-field model is employed on the basis of the Skyrme-Hartre-Fock (SHF)
functional augmented by BCS pairing. The microscopic-macroscopic mapping is
achieved by quadrupole-constrained mean-field calculations which are processed
further in the generator-coordinate method (GCM) at the level of the Gaussian
overlap approximation (GOA).
We study the correlation effects on energy, charge radii, and surface
thickness for a great variety of semi-magic nuclei. A key issue is to work out
the influence of variations of the SHF functional. We find that collective
ground-state correlations (GSC) are robust under change of nuclear bulk
properties (e.g., effective mass, symmetry energy) or of spin-orbit coupling.
Some dependence on the pairing strength is observed. This, however, does not
change the general conclusion that collective GSC obey a general pattern and
that their magnitudes are rather independent of the actual SHF parameters.Comment: 13 pages, 13 figure
Intruder bands in Sn
The level structure of Sn has been investigated. The data
were obtained by in-beam -ray spectroscopy
using the reaction at 70 MeV
performed at the OSIRIS gamma array in the
Institut fĂŒr Kernphysik FN Tandem accelerator.
We report in this short note the observation of two intruder type
rotational bands in this nucleus
Antagonism of the Phosphatase PP1 by the Measles Virus V Protein Is Required for Innate Immune Escape of MDA5
The cytosolic sensor MDA5 is crucial for antiviral innate immune defense against various RNA viruses including measles virus; as such, many viruses have evolved strategies to antagonize the antiviral activity of MDA5. Here, we show that measles virus escapes MDA5 detection by targeting the phosphatases PP1 alpha and PP1 gamma, which regulate MDA5 activity by removing an inhibitory phosphorylation mark. The V proteins of measles virus and the related paramyxovirus Nipah virus interact with PP1 alpha/gamma, preventing PP1-mediated dephosphorylation of MDA5 and thereby its activation. The PP1 interaction with the measles V protein is mediated by a conserved PP1-binding motif in the C-terminal region of the V protein. A recombinant measles virus expressing a mutant V protein deficient in PP1 binding is unable to antagonize MDA5 and is growth impaired due to its inability to suppress interferon induction. This identifies PP1 antagonism as a mechanism employed by paramyxoviruses for evading innate immune recognitio
High spin states in Ba
High spin states in 128Ba have been investigated with the fusionâevaporation reaction 96Zr(36S,4n)128Ba at a beam energy of 150 MeV with the GASP-spectrometer at INFN in Legnaro, Italy. The level scheme could be extended to higher spins and six-quasiparticle states have been observed. The deduced alignments are compared to the predictions of previously reported cranked shell model calculations. (Springer

The level scheme could be extended to higher spins and six-quasiparticle states have been observed. Lowest four-quasiparticle magnetic dipole band in Ba
The four-quasiparticle magnetic dipole band in 128Ba has been investigated with the 96Zr(36S,4n)128Ba reaction at the GASP spectrometer of the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. Linking transitions to the previously known positive parity states have been observed for the first time in this mass region and new transitions on top of the band have been found. The experimental results are compared to previously made tilted axis cranking calculations. (APS
In-beam M1 and E2 transition rates and collective structures in Ba
Subpicosecond mean lifetimes of eight excited states in 128 Ba populated via the 96 Zr( 36 S,4n) reaction were measured by the Doppler-shift attenuation (DSA) technique using a line-shape analysis. The differential decay-curve method (DDCM) was applied for the lifetime determination. The B (E2) values in the yrast band indicate that the first band-crossing is with a proton S-band. The configuration Ïh 11 2 d 5 2 of the negative-parity semi-decoupled bands is confirmed by the measured B (E2, I â I â 2) and B (M1, I â I â 1) transition strengths. The higher-lying âdipoleâ band in 128 Ba can be described as a high- K four-quasiparticle band built on the prolate configuration (Ïh 11 2 d 5 2 ) â (Îœh 11 2 g 7 2 ) . (Elsevier
