    A measurement of the Coulomb dissociation of "8B at 254 MeV/nucleon and the "8B solar neutrino flux

    We have measured the Coulomb dissociation of "8B into "7Be and proton at 254 MeV/nucleon using a large-acceptance focusing spectrometer. The astrophysical S_1_7 factor for the "7Be(p,#gamma#)"8B reaction at E_c_._m_.=0.25-2.78 MeV is deduced yielding S_1_7(0)=20.6#+-#1.2 (exp.) #+-# 1.0 (theo.) eV-b. This result agrees with the presently adopted zero-energy S_1_7 factor obtained in direct-reaction measurements and with the results of other Coulomb-dissociation studies performed at 46.5 and 51.2 MeV/nucleon.     #beta#-decay of "4"0Ti

    The #beta#-decay of "4"0Ti was studied. The Fermi and Gamow-Teller strength function was deduced from the observed #beta#-delayed emission of protons and #gamma#-rays and from the measured half-life of 55(2) ms. The results are compared to shell-model predictions and are used to estimate the neutrino-capture rate of the solar-neutrino detector ICARUS.     Beta-decay of "4"0Ti and "4"1Ti and implication for solar-neutrino detection

    The #beta#-decay of "4"0Ti and "4"1Ti was studied by measuring the #beta#-delayed proton- and #gamma#-emission. The half-lives for "4"0Ti and "4"1Ti were determined to be 54(2) and 82(3) ms, respectively. The experimental #beta#-decay strengths are compared with shell-model calculations and results from other measurements. The integrated Gamow-Teller strengths for "4"0Ti and "4"1Ti were found to be quenched, compared to the calculations, by factors of 0.79(3) and 0.93(3), respectively. Based on the experimental "4"0Ti #beta#-decay strength, the neutrino absorption cross-section and induced neutrino event rates for "4"0Ar were determined to be 14.3(3) x 10"-"4"3 cm"2 and 9.4#+-#0.2(stat.)_-_1_._6"+"1"."3(syst.)     Discovery of deeply bound #pi#"- states in the "2"0"8Pb(d,"3He) reaction

    Narrow lines were observed around 133 MeV excitation energy in the "2"0"8Pb(d, "3He) reaction at T_d=300 MeV/u using the fragment separator system at GSI. They are assigned to the deeply bound #pi#"- x "2"0"7Pb states with configurations of (2p)_#pi#_"-(3p_1_/_2, 3p_3_/_2)_n"-"1.
