Feldtests mit digitalem terrestrischen Fernsehen im Muenchner Raum

A field test was set-up in the Munich area, in order to verify the digital terrestrial television standard (DVB-T) drafted in the ETSI specification ETS 300 744, and to demonstrate an end-to-end chain. The focus was on verification of the predicted receiver behavior and sensitivity under real propagation conditions, in the presence of strong multipath and noise. A DVB transmitter was installed on the premises of the Bayerischer Rundfunk, near the Institut fuer Rundfunktechnik (IRT) in the North of Munich. The video and audio encoding equipment was situated in the IRT. Reception and measurement equipment was installed in a van and used for signal to noise ratio (or 'carrier' to noise ratio: C/N) measurements, a measure of receiver sensitivity, in several test-points within the area covered by the transmitter. There were two measurement campaigns, the first in February 1997 with 130 W EIRP radiated power and the second in March 1997, with 500 W EIRP.
