New State Distribution and Host Records of North American Buprestidae (Coleoptera)
The following new state records are reported for buprestid species in the eastern United States: Agrilus egeniformis Champlain and Knull and Polyceta elata LeConte from Georgia, Agrilus defectus LeConte and Agrilus vittaticollis (Randall) from Minnesota and Agrilus paramasculinus Champlain and Knull from Michigan and Indiana. Chrysobothris shawnee Wellso and Manley and Chrysobothris rugosiceps Melsheimer are reported from red oak (Quercus rubra L.) and English oak (Quercus robur L.) for the first time, after being reared from naturally infested host material collected in Michigan, USA
The Interrelationship of Fiber Length to Titanium Dioxide Pigment Retention
A literature review is presented that reviews the various considerations of retention in papermaking. The definition of retention and the three methods of retention,(sieving,entrapment, and coflocculation), are reviewed. Coagulation and flocculation are respectively discussed. Zeta potential and the various methods with which it is measured are reviewed, as well as various factors that influence zeta potential. The role of fines in the retention of wet end additives in the papermaking process is also discussed.
An experiment is designed to evaluate the effect of fiber length on titanium dioxide pigment retention. The experiment involves the determination of an optimum level of addition of a cationic retention aid in order to achieve maximum retention of titanium dioxide pigment in a papermaking furnish. A Laser-Zee microelectrophoresis meter was used to determine this point of optimum flocculation.
A 50% hardwood- 50% softwood furnish was prepared and beaten to a CS freeness of 500. This pulp was fractionated with a Clark Fiber Classifier into four different distributions. Each fiber fraction was placed in a Dynamic Drainage Jar at 0.5% consistency along with 20% by weight of fiber TiO2. Three different levels of retention aid addition and three different levels of shear were used with each fiber length. 100 ml samples were taken at each level of shear and each level of addition. These samples were filtered and ashed in order to determine retention of the TiO2 .
The results showed a significant improvement in retention at levels of retention aid 100 and 200 times the calculated optimum addition level of 0.001 lb./ton. Optimum retention was obtained at the lowest level of shear for each fiber length. Shorter fibers appeared to provide better retention than longer fibers, regardless of shear rate and retention aid level
The Impact of Simulation Sequencing on Perceived Clinical Decision Making
An emerging nursing education trend is to utilize simulated learning experiences as a means to optimize competency and decision making skills. The purpose of this study was to examine differences in students\u27 perception of clinical decision making and clinical decision making-related self-confidence and anxiety based on the sequence (order) in which they participated in a block of simulated versus hospital-based learning experiences. A quasi-experimental crossover design was used. Between and within group differences were found relative to self-confidence with the decision making process. When comparing groups, at baseline the simulation followed by hospital group had significantly higher self-confidence scores, however, at 14-weeks both groups were not significantly different. Significant within group differences were found in the simulation followed by hospital group only, demonstrating a significant decrease in clinical decision making related anxiety across the semester. Finally, there were no significant difference in; perceived clinical decision making within or between the groups at the two measurement points. Preliminary findings suggest that simulated learning experiences can be offered with alternating sequences without impacting the process, anxiety or confidence with clinical decision making. This study provides beginning evidence to guide curriculum development and allow flexibility based on student needs and available resources
Small Engine Technology. Task 4: Advanced Small Turboshaft Compressor (ASTC) Performance and Range Investigation
This contact had two main objectives involving both numerical and experimental investigations of a small highly loaded two-stage axial compressor designated Advanced Small Turboshaft Compressor (ASTC) winch had a design pressure ratio goal of 5:1 at a flowrate of 10.53 lbm/s. The first objective was to conduct 3-D Navier Stokes multistage analyses of the ASTC using several different flow modelling schemes. The second main objective was to complete a numerical/experimental investigation into stall range enhancement of the ASTC. This compressor was designed wider a cooperative Space Act Agreement and all testing was completed at NASA Lewis Research Center. For the multistage analyses, four different flow model schemes were used, namely: (1) steady-state ADPAC analysis, (2) unsteady ADPAC analysis, (3) steady-state APNASA analysis, and (4) steady state OCOM3D analysis. The results of all the predictions were compared to the experimental data. The steady-state ADPAC and APNASA codes predicted similar overall performance and produced good agreement with data, however the blade row performance and flowfield details were quite different. In general, it can be concluded that the APNASA average-passage code does a better job of predicting the performance and flowfield details of the highly loaded ASTC compressor
Solvent mediated interactions between model colloids and interfaces: A microscopic approach
We determine the solvent mediated contribution to the effective potentials
for model colloidal or nano- particles dispersed in a binary solvent that
exhibits fluid-fluid phase separation. Using a simple density functional theory
we calculate the density profiles of both solvent species in the presence of
the `colloids', which are treated as external potentials, and determine the
solvent mediated (SM) potentials. Specifically, we calculate SM potentials
between (i) two colloids, (ii) a colloid and a planar fluid-fluid interface,
and (iii) a colloid and a planar wall with an adsorbed wetting film. We
consider three different types of colloidal particles: colloid A which prefers
the bulk solvent phase rich in species 2, colloid C which prefers the solvent
phase rich in species 1, and `neutral' colloid B which has no strong preference
for either phase, i.e. the free energies to insert the colloid into either of
the coexisting bulk phases are almost equal. When a colloid which has a
preference for one of the two solvent phases is inserted into the disfavored
phase at statepoints close to coexistence a thick adsorbed `wetting' film of
the preferred phase may form around the colloids. The presence of the adsorbed

HST Images and Spectra of the Remnant of SN 1885 in M31
Near UV HST images of the remnant of SN 1885 (S And) in M31 show a 0"70 +-
0"05 diameter absorption disk silhouetted against M31's central bulge, at SN
1885's historically reported position. The disk's size corresponds to a linear
diameter of 2.5 +- 0.4 pc at a distance of 725 +- 70 kpc, implying an average
expansion velocity of 11000 +- 2000 km/s over 110 years. Low-dispersion FOS
spectra over 3200-4800 A; reveal that the absorption arises principally from Ca
II H & K (equivalent width ~215 A;) with weaker absorption features of Ca I
4227 A; and Fe I 3720 A;. The flux at Ca II line center indicates a foreground
starlight fraction of 0.21, which places SNR 1885 some 64 pc to the near side
of the midpoint of the M31 bulge, comparable to its projected 55 pc distance
from the nucleus. The absorption line profiles suggest an approximately
spherically symmetric, bell-shaped density distribution of supernova ejecta
freely expanding at up to 13100 +- 1500 km/s. We estimate Ca I, Ca II, and Fe I
masses of 2.9(+2.4,-0.6) x 10^-4 M_o, 0.005(+0.016,-0.002) M_o, and
0.013(+0.010,-0.005) M_o respectively. If the ionization state of iron is
similar to the observed ionization state of calcium, M_CaII/M_CaI = 16(+42,-5),
then the mass of Fe II is 0.21(+0.74,-0.08) M_o, consistent with that expected

Machine learning is used to approximate the kinetic energy of one dimensional
diatomics as a functional of the electron density. The functional can
accurately dissociate a diatomic, and can be systematically improved with
training. Highly accurate self-consistent densities and molecular forces are
found, indicating the possibility for ab-initio molecular dynamics simulations

Magnetically Accreting Isolated Old Neutron Stars
Previous work on the emission from isolated old neutron stars (IONS)
accreting the inter-stellar medium (ISM) focussed on gravitational capture -
Bondi accretion. We propose a new class of sources which accrete via magnetic
interaction with the ISM. While for the Bondi mechanism, the accretion rate
decreases with increasing NS velocity, in magnetic accretors (MAGACs="magics")
the accretion rate increases with increasing NS velocity. MAGACs will be
produced among high velocity (~> 100 km s-1) high magnetic field (B> 1e14 G)
radio pulsars - the ``magnetars'' - after they have evolved first through
magnetic dipole spin-down, followed by a ``propeller'' phase (when the object
sheds angular momentum on a timescale ~< 1e10 yr). The properties of MAGACS may
be summarized thus: dipole magnetic fields of B~>1e14 G; minimum velocities
relative to the ISM of >25-100 km s-1, depending on B, well below the median in
the observed radio-pulsar population; spin-periods of >days to years; accretion
luminosities of 1e28- 1e31 ergs s-1 ; and effective temperatures kT=0.3 - 2.5
keV if they accrete onto the magnetic polar cap. We find no examples of MAGACs
among previously observed source classes (anomalous X-ray pulsars,
soft-gamma-ray repeaters or known IONS). However, MAGACs may be more prevelant
in flux-limited X-ray catalogs than their gravitationally accreting

Resting state morphology predicts the effect of theta burst stimulation in false belief reasoning:ventrolateral prefrontal cortex in false belief reasoning
When required to represent a perspective that conflicts with one's own, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) suggests that the right ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (rvlPFC) supports the inhibition of that conflicting self-perspective. The present task dissociated inhibition of self-perspective from other executive control processes by contrasting belief reasoning-a cognitive state where the presence of conflicting perspectives was manipulated-with a conative desire state wherein no systematic conflict existed. Linear modeling was used to examine the effect of continuous theta burst stimulation (cTBS) to rvlPFC on participants' reaction times in belief and desire reasoning. It was anticipated that cTBS applied to rvlPFC would affect belief but not desire reasoning, by modulating activity in the Ventral Attention System (VAS). We further anticipated that this effect would be mediated by functional connectivity within this network, which was identified using resting state fMRI and an unbiased model-free approach. Simple reaction-time analysis failed to detect an effect of cTBS. However, by additionally modeling individual measures from within the stimulated network, the hypothesized effect of cTBS to belief (but, importantly, not desire) reasoning was demonstrated. Structural morphology within the stimulated region, rvlPFC, and right temporoparietal junction were demonstrated to underlie this effect. These data provide evidence that inconsistencies found with cTBS can be mediated by the composition of the functional network that is being stimulated. We suggest that the common claim that this network constitutes the VAS explains the effect of cTBS to this network on false belief reasoning. Hum Brain Mapp, 2016. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc
