Research on the Development of the Elderly Care Policies in China
The population ageing of Chinese society is deepening. The elderly care policy is a policy standard formulated by the government to protect the rights and interests of older people in the process of actively coping with the population ageing. It has crucial guiding significance for improving the elderly care services and carrying out pension practice. Since the reform and opening-up, Chinaâs elderly care policy system has gone through three stages of initial construction, development, and transformation, showing a development direction from aid to service, from one to multiple, from unique to general. In general, China has primarily formed a complete framework of the elderly care policy system, the rights, and interests of older people have been strongly guaranteed, the elderly care service industry has developed rapidly, and the quality of elderly care service has been effectively improved. However, in the process of policy development, there are still problems such as difficulty in implementing policies, low effectiveness, vague content, and fragmentation of policies. In the future, it is urgent to establish a complete, scientific, reasonable, and effective elderly care policy system. It should further expand the scope of benefits of old-age care policies, promote the coordinated development of the elderly care policies between urban and rural areas and among regions, strengthen the guiding and leading role of the government, and refine policies on personnel training, so as to form a powerful driving force for old-age care
GlyphControl: Glyph Conditional Control for Visual Text Generation
Recently, there has been a growing interest in developing diffusion-based
text-to-image generative models capable of generating coherent and well-formed
visual text. In this paper, we propose a novel and efficient approach called
GlyphControl to address this task. Unlike existing methods that rely on
character-aware text encoders like ByT5 and require retraining of text-to-image
models, our approach leverages additional glyph conditional information to
enhance the performance of the off-the-shelf Stable-Diffusion model in
generating accurate visual text. By incorporating glyph instructions, users can
customize the content, location, and size of the generated text according to
their specific requirements. To facilitate further research in visual text
generation, we construct a training benchmark dataset called LAION-Glyph. We
evaluate the effectiveness of our approach by measuring OCR-based metrics and
CLIP scores of the generated visual text. Our empirical evaluations demonstrate
that GlyphControl outperforms the recent DeepFloyd IF approach in terms of OCR
accuracy and CLIP scores, highlighting the efficacy of our method.Comment: Technical report. The codes will be released at

Black Strings and Classical Hair
We examine the geometry near the event horizon of a family of black string
solutions with traveling waves. It has previously been shown that the metric is
continuous there. Contrary to expectations, we find that the geometry is not
smooth, and the horizon becomes singular whenever a wave is present. Both five
dimensional and six dimensional black strings are considered with similar
results.Comment: 14 pages, harvma
Black Holes with Multiple Charges and the Correspondence Principle
We consider the entropy of near extremal black holes with multiple charges in
the context of the recently proposed correspondence principle of Horowitz and
Polchinski, including black holes with two, three and four Ramond-Ramond
charges. We find that at the matching point the black hole entropy can be
accounted for by massless open strings ending on the D-branes for all cases
except a black hole with four Ramond-Ramond charges, in which case a possible
resolution in terms of brane-antibrane excitations is considered.Comment: 26 pages, harvmac, minor correction
Global research trends in penile cancer: Bibliometric and visualized analysis
BackgroundPenile cancer is a malignant tumor of the genitourinary system that mostly occurs in middle-aged and elderly men aged 50â70 years, which can seriously affect physical, psychological, and sexual health. Hundreds of original articles and reviews on penile cancer are published each year. However, a bibliometric analysis of these publications has not been performed.ObjectiveThis study aimed to systematically analyze and visualize penile cancer-related publications through bibliometrics and reveal identified topics, hotspots, and knowledge gaps in related fields.MethodsBased on the Web of Science core collection database, we first analyzed the quantity and quality of publications in the field of penile cancer. Second, we profiled the publishing groups in terms of country, institution, authorâs publication, and cooperation network. Then, we systematized and summarized the hot topics of research.ResultsThis bibliometric analysis was conducted from 2001 to 2022. The analysis identified 1,687 articles and reviews, which were published in 432 journals. The number of publications and citations on penile cancer-related research has steadily increased over the last two decades. Furthermore, academic institutions in Europe and the United States play a leading role in penile cancer research. The country, institution, journal, and author with the most publications were the United States (507), H Lee Moffitt Cancer Research Center (96), Journal of Urology (83), and Spiess P (87), respectively. The most frequently used keywords were penile cancer (743), squamous-cell carcinoma (717), cancer (380), carcinoma (232), lymphadenectomy (229). 16 keyword clustering information was obtained, including #0 male circumcision, #1 lichen sclerosus, #2 chemotherapy, #3 penile neoplasms, #4 targeted therapy, #5 resection margin, #6 cervical cancer, #7 lymph node dissection, #8 prognostic factor, #9 prostate cancer, #10 inguinal lymph node dissection, #11 human papillomavirus DNA, #12 gene, #13 penile intraepithelial neoplasia, #14 male sexual function, and #15 penile cancer.ConclusionMore and more scholars are devoted to the research on penile cancer. This bibliometric analysis revealed that the main research topics and hotspots in penile cancer included risk factors and surgical treatment plans
The Natural Compound Myricetin Effectively Represses the Malignant Progression of Prostate Cancer by Inhibiting PIM1 and Disrupting the PIM1/CXCR4 Interaction
Background/Aims: Natural compounds are a promising resource for anti-tumor drugs. Myricetin, an abundant flavonoid found in the bark and leaves of bayberry, shows multiple promising anti-tumor functions in various cancers. Methods: The cytotoxic, pro-apoptotic, and anti-metastatic effects of myricetin on prostate cancer cells were investigated in both in vitro and in vivo studies. Short-hairpin RNA knockdown of the proviral integration site for Moloney murine leukemia virus-1 (PIM1), pull-down and co-immunoprecipitation assays, and an intracellular Ca2+ flux assay were used to investigate the potential underlying mechanism of myricetin. ONCOMINE database data mining and immunohistochemical analysis of prostate cancer tissues were used to evaluate the expression of PIM1 and CXCR4, as well as the correlation between PIM1 and CXCR4 expression and the clinicopathologic characteristics and prognoses of prostate cancer patients. Results: Myricetin exerted selective cytotoxic, pro-apoptotic, and anti-metastatic effects on prostate cancer cells by inhibiting PIM1 and disrupting the PIM1/CXCR4 interaction. Moreover, PIM1 and CXCR4 were coexpressed and associated with aggressive clinicopathologic traits and poor prognosis in prostate cancer patients. Conclusion: These results offer preclinical evidence for myricetin as a potential chemopreventive and therapeutic agent for precision medicine tailored to prostate cancer patients characterized by concomitant elevated expression of PIM1 and CXCR4
Primordial Germ Cell Specification from Embryonic Stem Cells
Background: Primordial germ cell (PGC) specification is the first crucial step in germ line development. However, owing to significant challenges regarding the in vivo system, such as the complex cellular environment and potential problems with embryo manipulation, it is desirable to generate embryonic stem (ES) cells that are capable of overcoming these aforementioned limitations in order to provide a potential in vitro model to recapitulate the developmental processes in vivo. Methodology and Principal Findings: Here, we studied the detailed process of PGC specification from stella-GFP ES cells. We first observed the heterogeneous expression of stella in ES cells. However, neither Stella-positive ES cells nor Stellanegative ES cells shared a similar gene expression pattern with either PGCs or PGC precursors. Second, we derived PGCs from ES cells using two differentiation methods, namely the attachment culture technique and the embryoid body (EB) method. Compared with PGCs derived via the attachment culture technique, PGCs derived via the EB method that had undergone the sequential erasure of Peg3 followed by Igf2r resulted in a cell line in which the expression dynamics of T, Fgf8 and Sox17, in addition to the expression of the epiblast markers, were more similar to the in vivo expression, thus demonstrating that the process of PGC derivation was more faithfully recapitulated using the EB method. Furthermore, we developed an in vitro model of PGC specification in a completely chemically defined medium (CDM) that indicated that BMP4 and Wnt3a promoted PGC derivation, whereas BMP8b and activinA had no observable effect on PGC derivation
