POVOS E COMUNIDADES TRADICIONAIS E SEU PAPEL ESTRATÉGICO – DA PERSPECTIVA DEFENSIVA À OFENSIVA

The place for traditional peoples and communities in the Brazilian society changed since the beginning of the conquest in the year 1500. The initial perspective of violent or peaceful integration of indigenous peoples into the society of majority changed to the right of self-determination. The right of self-determination later also becomes the quilombolas and the traditional communities. Today we ask if the traditional peoples and communities could change from the niche at the peripheries of the modern society to a subject of change for the society at all in direction of sustainability.O lugar dos povos e comunidades tradicionais dentro da sociedade Brasileira mudou várias vezes desde o início da conquista do Brasil, no ano de 1500. A perspectiva inicial da integração dos povos indígenas à sociedade majoritária, da forma violenta ou pacífica, mudou para o direito da autogestão. Posteriormente,essas autogestões foram conquistadas também pelos quilombolas e as comunidades tradicionais. Hoje, a pergunta que está posta é se os povos e comunidades tradicionais podem liberar-se do nicho que eles têm na periferia da sociedade moderna e se transformar em um sujeito de mudança para a sociedade em geral direção da sustentabilidade
